Reply to this One of the famous Taipei night markets would be perfect for your short layover. The ShiLin market is perhaps the most famous. Street vendors are selling everything from an enormous choice of freshly prepared local foods (for that late dinner) to designer lable clothing. Those designer clothes are generally first quality, just over-runs left after shipping orders to the US and Europe. It's also a great spot to pick up "knock offs" ranging from CDs to gold Rolex's if that's of interest. It's fun just to watch the people even if you don't buy anything. I haven't been there for a while, but it was always considered very safe.
