Phui ~ I'm not going to stay there again even its for free. From Taipei Main Station, the Tze Chiang Express train took 2.5 hours to reach the city of TaiChung. With little difficulty, we managed to check into the Fuh Chun Hotel opposite the train station at a mere NT780 or S$40. Yes, it's aging but it's certainly clean and relatively well-maintained for the prices we paid for 2 nights. Taichung is probably another Taipei in the making. Plans are on the way to introduce a similar MRT system in the not so distant future. Without the MRT system, 2 of us felt that we had lost our legs as transport options ... read more

After a good night's rest I wake up to find that my face is in shreds. The Thai colour is obviously coming off fast. Judy picks me up for lunch before we go out for some sightseeing on foot, the streets filled with little kids in school uniforms rushing for home. We walk both large avenues lined with shopping malls, banks and office towers and narrow streets full of little shops and residences. The traffic goes from being nearly non existent to chaotic. Taiwan is definietly scooter territory, everywhere the sidewalks are cluttered with parked rides and colourful helmets. This is also the first time I have come across a pink shop dedicated to that Hello Kitty craze. Depends on who you are really. While Kay is returning to reality I will continue with a jump to the next location. The old man picks us up at the hotel at 6.30 and we're on our way to the airport after having been delayed 25 minutes due to some amazingly poor performance by the checkout clerk. My eye still looks a bit weird but I don't have any problems using it anymore. I had a really good time in Thailand and feel a bit sad to press on with my itinerary, but the mission must go on. After saying our goodbyes at Don Muang airport I head back inside to do some plane spotting before boarding my flight to Taipei.
