Today's trail would take me from Sadang Station to Seoksu Station around the base of Gwanaksan Mountain. The trail is 12.7 kilometres and would take around 5 hours and fifty minutes to complete. The trail is rated as medium difficult. It is split into two sections Sadang to entrance of Seoul University, which is 5.8 kilometres, and then Seoul University Entrance to Seoksu Station, which is 6.9 kilometres. I exited Sandang Station at exit four and walked past the various shops and bus stops. I must be made as I think I pickedthe coldest day of the year to hike on. It was -18 degrees Celsius. I had put on a few extra layers to try and fend off the cold, I hoped that they would work. I spotted a Seoul Trail sign that told me ... read more

Today's trail would take me around Daemosan and Umyeonsan mountains, both these mountains are pretty small, I think about 350 metres and 100 and odd metres respectively. I would be walking through Gangnam-gu and Seocho-gu. The trail is 17.9 kilometres long and should take about eight hours. It is rated as a medium difficulty course. It is divided into two section Suseo Station to Yangjae Citizens' Forest, which is ten kilometres and then Yangjae Citizen' Forest to Sandang Station, which is 7.9 kilometres. I came out of Suseo Station at exit six. I followed walked a couple of paces and saw the first stamp box and the start of the trail to my right. I have hiked here a few times before so I knew exactly where I was. This trail starts with a step of ... read more

I hiked the same trail in Sobaeksan National Park in spring last year. I really enjoyed the hike, so i jumped at the chance to do this hike again in the winter season. I thought it would be really nice to see how different the trail is in another season. Also it was rainy last time, so I hoped this time it would be better. We left early on the Sunday morning, and the drive was so quick. I was having a lovely nap and shocked when we got the national park around 10:30 am. It was quite windy when we stepped off the bus, and i'm sure it was snowing a little, although it could have been snow blowing off the trees. The first part of the trail is pretty easy, as it is along ... read more

Trail three starts at Gwangnaru Station and ends at Suseo Station. It is 26.1 kilometres long and is given a rating of easy. The estimated time to complete the course is nine hours, so today would be a long day. The trail is divided into three sections, Gwangnaru Station to Godeok Station, Godeok Station to Bangi Ecological Wetlands, and then from the Wetland Centre to Suseo Station. I left Gwangnaru Station around 8:30 am. The first part of the trail is ten kilmometres exactly. I followed the Seoul Trail signs, crossing the road and turning left. I hadn't done this part of the Seoul Trail before, so I had to pay a bit more attention than usual when looking for the trail markers. I thought that I must have gone the wrong way, as I hadn't ... read more

Today was the earliest morning for Ralph and I. We woke up about 630AM to get ready and head out to the ferry station out in Fukuoka. We didn’t expect the weather to be bad, but it was raining heavily in the morning. After getting on the ferry, it was about a 3 hour boat ride to Busan in South Korea going about 60MPH. The ocean was pretty foggy and choppy, but I did manage to get some shots of us coming into the port. You can already tell how different building structure wise compared to the previous Japan cities. Unfortunately, Ralph and I don’t speak a word of Korean, so there are lots of pointing, grunting, and poor attempts at Google Translate. I ate at Lotteria, which is South Korea’s biggest burger joint. Had a ... read more

19th Dec: We left Seoul around 8 am and headed east to Gangwon-do. I was happy to be getting out of the city and spending the weekend before Christmas somewhere beautiful. We had a couple of stops on the way and we arrived to the area, where we were meant to be hiking. However, luck was not on our side, the trail had been closed as rockfall in the area had made it too dangerous to hike. Time for plan B, we would head to the main part of the national park and do the hike that we were going to do tomorrow instead. We arrived at the main entrance around 11-11:30 am. We headed along the new trail to the waterfall. The trail was only 2.5 kilometres and the slope was very gentle. It was ... read more

I exited Hwarangdae Station at exit one. I turned around and went straight in the opposite direction, you can see the red stamp box from across the road, set in a little park. I stamped my little booklet, it feels good to have another stamp, one step closer to completing this journey. Then I looked for the trail marker, which indicated that I should go to the right and then down some steps. I started walking around 8:45 am, a nice early start. This is the second course in the Seoul Trail or Dulle Gil stretching 12.6 kilometres from Hwarangdae Station to Gwangnaru Station. My stamp book and map said that it would take around 5 hours 10 minutes to complete the course and it was a medium level course. After coming down the steps, I ... read more

The Seoul Trail or Dulle-gil (서울 둘레길) is a 157 kilometre trail that loops around the city of Seoul. The eight trails were connected late last year, to form the Seoul Trail. I think some of trails existed individually under different names before. I have previously a few parts of the trail on purpose and by accident. There isn't a whole lot of information about the trail in English, only a couple of blogs, and one is basically a cut and paste of the original website. In the summer, a friend picked me up a map and stamp book from City Hall in Seoul. I think you can get them somewhere near Dobongsan, too, but I'm not 100% sure. Anyway, now it was time to dig them out and crack on with my mission to complete ... read more

Our lovely pension owner gave us a lift to the bus station and we bought tickets to go to Suncheon. I think the ticket cost around six or seven thousand won. We almost ended up on the wrong bus, but the staff at the station were lovely and told us which spot our bus would pull up into. My friend remarked about how country this place felt. It is a real contrast to the city. The bus journey took about an hour and we were on one of those luxury VIP style buses with big padded reclining seats. And there were only three of us on the bus. We arrived in Suncheon at about 9:30 am. My friend was happy as there was a Dunkin' Donuts in the bus station. Apparently, they don't have them in ... read more

I had arrived late in Gwangju the night before. We were staying in a hostel that was about a ten minute walk away from thr bus station. We had a private room at the hostel and it was small, but clean and cosy. Breakfast was included, so we headed up to the kitchen to make that, eggs, bread, plastic cheese, hash browns and hot dogs, it made a nice change from the usual hostel breakfasts of eggs, jam and bread. We headed to the bus station and used one of the machines to buy tickets. I love those machines, no need to interact with a human. I can't remember how much the ticket was, but it was less than a man won. We had a bit of a look around the bus station before boardung our ... read more
