We took the subway from Seoul all the way out to Chuncheon. It is great that the Seoul subway system is so extensive and cheap, but it was a long journey. The subway was packed so it was standing room only. I ended up standing the whole way, for an hour and a half. It was nice looking out of the window watching the city turn into countryside. At Namchuncheon Station there was a coach waiting for us. It was nice to finally sit down. We drove through Chuncheon to Uiam Lake. The drive didn't take too long. We sat near the lake and took in the views. It was a glorious day, sunny but with a nice breeze to stop it getting too hot. Since we were a very big group we had to split ... read more

We left Seoul around 12:30 am, since it was Children's Day it was a national holiday. We were covering some serious ground today. We were heading right to the bottom of Korea, past Busan to the bottom of Geoje Island and from there another ferry to Somaemuldo, a tiny island further south. We arrived at the port around 6:30 am. We had a bit of time before the ferry, so after eating some breakfast, I took a little walk around. I had brought some food with me, but I was impressed to see the convenience store and restaurant in the ferry terminal open as it was fairly small. We were due to get the ferry around 7:30 am, but when we reconvened at the port,we found out that the boat would be unable to dock at ... read more

Crocodile Peak seems to be a relatively new place to visit in Korea, I have only heard of it in the past couple of years. Maybe someone in a marketing department somewhere visited and came up with the idea of calling it Crocodile Peak. We drove for a couple of hours, maybe three and arrived at where we would start hiking. This place seemed off the regular tourist trail, we pulled up at a carpark, near the lake. The carpark was for a restaurant, which was abandoned. Whether it had been shut up for good or just for the winter, I guess I will never know. We walked down the road for a few minutes and crossed by a bridge. We joined the trail by the edge of the bridge. It wasn't marked at all and ... read more

Dobongsan is part of Bukhansan National Park. It is easy to get to as it even has its own subway station. I have wanted to hike here for ages, but haven't had time and had heard the routes are quite tough. From the station, we took the road behind the station, not the one to the Iris Garden, and followed the street round. We walked past lots of shops and restaurants, before we reached the entrance to the park. This must have been a good ten to fifteen minute walk. I wasn't really looking at the signposts, so I don't know the trail we took, but it was a little strange at first. We were walking through a kind of valley, which was a bit wet and slippery due to the rain the day before. It ... read more

The final stage of the Seoul Trail! The last section is 34.5 kilometres and is of a medium level of difficulty. The trail covers the neighbourhoods of Gangbuk-gu, Dobong-gu, Seongbuk-gu, Eunpyeong-gu, and Jongro-gu. It is estimated that it will 17 hours to complete. The trail is divided into five sections, but I didn't follow these designated stages. Since this stage is so long, I thought it would take me two days to complete this, but since I wasn't feeling too good, when I first started it, I cut short one of my days and it took me three days to complete. On my first day I hiked for about 4 hours, the second day roughly four and a half hours, and the third day five and a half hours, so a grand total of 14 hours. ... read more

Getting to Jangbong-do is quite a mission. First we had to take the subway to Unseo Station, which is on the airport line. Since we had sat drinking coffee in the station to wake up, we didn't have enough time to get the bus to the port, so we took a taxi to the ferry port. It wasn't very far and the taxi was just over 5,000 won. We were deposited in front of Sammok Quay. We had been there before when we went to Sin-do, Si-do and Mo-do, but I didn't recognise it at all. We walked into the terminal building, it was bedlam! I couldn't believe how busy it was. We filled out our forms for the ferry, a must post Sewol, we had to fill in two forms and keep the second one ... read more

Geo: 37.5323, 126.957APRIL 5th.We returned to the Namdaemun Market to stock up of treasures. We bought a series of dried fruit and nuts. We then stopped off for Soup for lunch along with kimchi, seaweed and a pickled root vegetable that we could not decide what it was. Then we where off to GANG NAM. We had to see where this crazy Gangnam Style came from. We caught the train which was so deep. We took an about 3 escalators down to catch the metro. Geo: 37.5323, 126.957We walked through the streets and there are so many arty and cool things just on the side of the road. INSA-DONGAnother little artsy place with a shopping complex that has no stairs but is about 3 stories high. The shops are all on a slope so you don't really realize that you are going up this slight slope until you reach the top floor. It's really very special. ... read more

2nd April: We travelled overnight and arrived at Busan in the early morning. I hadn't slept on the bus, so was in a terrible mood. Most people got off the bus to watch the sunrise, but I couldn't be bothered. I got up a little while later and found a coffee shop that was open. It was more of a hole in the wall joint than an actual coffee shop, but it was open at 7 am, which is lovely, you never find that in Seoul. Armed with my coffee, I took a wander along the beach and was surprised at how busy it was. There were people out running, biking, and walking. In the sea there were people swimming and surfing. We were at Songjeong Beach, which I thought I had been to years ago ... read more
