After another long delay we are back with new tales. Although the “honeymoon” phase of travel may be coming to an end, we are now enjoying the comforts of establishing a routine in a land that seemed as far from home as possible only a few months ago. When we are not working hard for the money taming the youngsters, we now spend our days playing Frisbee on Sundays with a local league, becoming regulars at our favorite local restaurants and making a circle of friends from here all the way to the southern hemisphere. These days we have been enjoying the simple pleasures of an ex-pat lifestyle. We play Frisbee in a park with views of a beautiful mountain. It has been a great way to make friends. Although we are on different teams we ... read more

My school yard is full of falling Autumn. A lot of leaves of trees turned greenery to colorful-yellow, brown, red-. I shot yellowed leaves and beautiful flowers in my school back yard and caught my some pupils with living in playground. You can enjoy these shoots. Leaves are falling, falling like falling snows, This fall is falling, falling with colored falling leaves.

I read in Daegu Pockets (a magazine for expats in Daegu) that the weekend of October 24th was the optimum time to go to Palgongsan mountain to see the autumn leaves. So Heather and I hopped on the Rapid Bus #1 and headed out to the mountain. We couldn't believe our luck, it was the perfect fall weather to head out to the mountains; cool, but not cold and sunny. On the downside, apparently half the city of Daegu was thinking the same thing. The traffic both out to the mountain and back was truly insaney but it was a great trip nonetheless. We decided to go to Donghwasa Temple instead of hiking (although since the Temple is on the mountain, it was a little like hiking anyway). I had been to the temple one other ... read more

That's right, after six weeks in Korea we're finally making some money!! Its been a bit tight around here lately since we had to wait so long before our first pay check, but we've made do with plenty of budget adventures and meals (and one not so budget adventure... more to come on that). We're celebrating our first payday tonight by going to the make-it-yourself spring roll restaurant, our favorite place to eat so far in South Korea. Everyone says the first month is the hardest and we hope that's true. We're feeling more settled into the teaching life here and our network of friends continues to grow. Regrettably, yesterday we lost one of our first friends we made here as his year long contract ended, but he will hopefully be rejoining us in Korea in ... read more

Where to begin after our two week lapse? While M.I.A. we have officially become teachers, moved into our apartment, visited Busan and finally begun to make a home for ourselves in this crazy land called South Korea. Our days during the week now consist of taming young children as they tackle us for hugs at work, the daily struggle to teach a language even I have trouble speaking and learning the odds and ends of the working environment in a foreign culture. All in all, it's a sweet job. Grueling at times, but never boring. Apparently we are liked for being tall more than any other teaching skills we may or may not have, and for the first time in my life my pale skin receives much praise (I work hard to keep it so white, ... read more

We've arrived!!! After a 24 hour travel day, including three flights and me forgetting a carry on bag at the airport in my exhausted state (thank you South Korea for having an honest and friendly population!), we have landed in South Korea and begun settling into our new home. Unfortunately, our home at the moment is a sketchy motel called "motel prince" until September 1st when we can move into our apartments. We've spent our first three days getting acclimated by relaxing in the motel, eating anything and everything served to us, walking around the neighborhood and enjoying the quirks of South Korea (including superstition of the number 4. There is no 4th floor, no room 104, no packets of anything in 4s and amusing misspellings and English mistakes such as wapples instead of waffles). The ... read more

I finished my teachers' training course for enhancement of teaching skills of elementary school science on August 12th. on last Friday, we, teachers(40members in my class) went to watch flowers, plants and trees in Dae-gu citizen garden. It was a kind of field trip for teachers to have an opportunity to group and make a distinction between many plants and many trees by eyes. in this garden, I saw many beautiful flowers, greenery and tall trees. It was a good place to take a rest or take a walk for refreshment. I shoot some flowers that I am very fond of in this garden. On last weekend(Aug. 8th), I went to my father's house in my hometown, Gunwi. some flowers bloomed in my father's house yard and I enjoyed some dwarfed trees that new neighbor ... read more

This entry is pretty much for the pictures that Lisa took during some of our first grade (US 7th grade) classes at the end of the semester, during my school's summer English camp, and during some other random occasions. The pictures of students wearing uniforms are from classes during the normal semester. After we were finished with the final exams and the textbook we had time to play some review games and some games that have nothing to do with the book at all! (yahoo!) :) The game with the grid on the board was a real sweet game that we called the tiger game. It was a review game where the kids were on four teams. One team was an explorer that wanted to first get to the jeep and the escape by driving it ... read more

I made a trip out to Daegu to visit a friend for a Saturday night a pretty chill little city. The crew was Duo, and 30 yr old punk rock singer and Art manager, Suwon a Korean who just returned from 5 yrs in Japan to do his obligatory military service, Eddy tough as nails hard core type who just finished his service , Joey a Mexican American here in Korea with the US armed forces, and my friend Nathan, a fellow world traveller. After chilling at in the basement of some obscure building and listening the the band practice while playing Metal Gear Solid. We took off on the town. Our first stop, a club called Tuo, where a DJ spun the latest techno and DB tunes. This club was literally packed with mostly beautiful ... read more

For the past month, ever since we went to Apsan Mountain and "hiked" on a paved path, I have been mocking Korean hiking. However, when Heather and I went to Palgongsan, the concrete path we started on quickly changed to dirt and rock complete with quad shredding incline. It was a much rougher hike than I had expected and it shed a little light onto why so many of the old men and women carry hiking sticks (although this still does not solve the extreme hiking apparel mystery) . In addition to being physically demanding, it was also a really pretty hike. It was especially nice to be away from the concrete jungle for a little while (Palgong Moutain is about an hour by bus from the center of Daegu). We also had the rare pleasure ... read more
