So it's been a while I know but life has been busy. School is getting hectic and we are going through a lot of tranistions right now. Things have been good for me lately. Two weeks ago I went to Jinhae for the Cherry Blossom Festival and last weekend I headed up near Seoul. The first night there we ended up in this huge night club (foreigners are usually not allowed in these places so it was extra special) it was equipt with "table girls" (like prostitutes for old businessmen) and a Vegas style stage show. The next day was pretty amazing, I ended up just outside of the Seoul City walking this incredibly picturesk river, possibly one of the most beautiful things I have seen in Korea so far. After the river tour we ... read more

But I am still having a great time here. It's weird though, I feel so cut off from everyone back home and the longer I am here the further and further away I feel from everyone. I do want to thank everyone who has written me back, I love getting those emails, it brightens my day. Well anyway back to the subject at hand. Korea is a crazy place, I've been here almost a month now and the time is flying by. I am making a ton of friends and everyday is a new experience. Last week at school was a little trying, I know now that I am not cut out to be a life-long elementary school teacher. I am not even sure I want to have children anymore :-) But the job isn't that ... read more

So today was the first time I actually realized there is a war going on, albeit a war that hasnt had a shot fired since the 50's. But all the same, we had an air drill today, where everyone had to run inside and all traffic came to a stand still. It was kind of surreal. Army men with yellow bands took the streets, directing traffic blowins whistles, all while airhorns rang in my ears. I kind of wish I had brought my camera to school today. Anyway about halfway through yesterday I came down with what can only be described as the Plague of the Orient. Sore throat, headache, chills, and it was impossible to sleep last night. I am already feeling a bit better, but last night was absolute hell. I was having nightmares ... read more

Just thought I'd sed you guys a quick blog update of life in Korea. First of all let me say that I miss you all very much. I sat up last night and it finally hit me that it'd be atleast a year before I see most of you again and thats a strange thing to come to grips with. I like it here a lot and I am having a great time but nothing can ever replace home. With that said, here are some of my musings I wrote down last night while sitting awake: Driving: Koreans have a sort of control choas that they function on while driving. Red lights, crosswalks, and speed limits all seem to be mild suggestions, no law really seems to apply. Sidewalks function as emergency lanes, passing lanes, and ... read more

...Each morning the drivers pile their cars onto the sidewalk and the bit of asphalt in front of the company building. The small, always-chipper man directs them and calls out "Good morning" to me whenever he is not preoccupied with the morning rush. I haven't heard him speak any other phrase in English. Well! He doubles as a package delivery man for the editing office - and he dropped off the enormous, cumbersome, Tolstoy-novel heavy package to editing - which became a main character in the office - since someone was either blocked, inconvenienced or in awe due to its size, - with each remark I basked in my package glory. "Whoa, who got that big mama?" "Brie, it's in my way, can you shift it to the right?" "Jesus, what was in that thing? Cookies? ... read more

Wow! Time sure is flying by now. This week went by extremely fast! It's kinda sad because it's taken our Korean teachers so long to warm up to us and feel comfortable having real conversations with us. The last few months we've all become closer and now it's time to leave. Amy, the head teacher, has told me this past week that she'll be getting married October 29th... only 2 weeks after we leave. She was hoping to have me and Brendan attend but we'll have already left. We both definitely would have LOVED to attend a traditional Korean wedding. Her fiance lives in another city, about 2 hours away, so she'll be leaving Ding Ding Dang a week after we leave and moving to her fiance's city. This past May, 2 of our Korean teachers ... read more
