Our first stop in Manila was the Mall of Asia. We heard it was the largest mall in Asia and it was certainly the largest mall that we have seen in Asia. I am simply guessing but it was about 10 times the size of Select City Walk in New Delhi. I have been wanting to pick up a traveling sized computer and I found an HP Mini there for about $480.00. That is about $100 more than I can get one for in the USA, but I won't be back in the USA for at least 6 months. I am typing on it now. Manila nightlife reminded us a little of Bali at night ... at least in the touristy areas. Sixty year old men with twenty-two year old local girls at their side. But ... read more

There was the still the slight chill of winter as we left Osaka for the Philippines. Thus, the humidity in Manila was a bit uncomfortable. But nonetheless, all is well as we drove up to the cool mountain of Tagaytay as soon as we arrived. There we stayed overnight, viewed the Taal Volcano and Lake, dinner at Jospehines and called it a day. The next morning we passed by the Good Sheperd convent on our way down to Manila. The convent is famous for its delicacies so we bought coconut pie and ube jam. This would eventually be our lunchas we wont have enough time to eat before our flight to Boracay. From Tagaytay we went to Intramuros. Checked out San Agustin Basilica a World Heritage site, which is a baroque church reminiscent of Spanish colonial ... read more

Widely known as one of the finest swimming destinations in the world, Boracay is blessed with unsullied fine talcum powder-sand beaches. Its tranquil crystal clear waters are perfect for swimming, sailing, fishing and sunbathing. Boracay is the Philippine's pride to Philippine Vacation and Tourist Spot to the world. Boracay also boasts of sapphire seas and spectacular sunsets. Countless hidden coves dot the island and tall coconut trees line up along the beaches. Boracay lies at the northwest tip of Panay, in the west Visayas region, off the Sibuyan Sea. The island is made up of little communities: Yapak in the north, Balabag in the middle, and Manocmanoc in the south. Hilly elevations up to 100 meters above sea level characterize Yapak... read more

Entwede ... read more

Howdy again folks! Well, it's down to the final leg of my trip! Have had such an awesome time since my last update! I haven't done as much much biking as I thought because I found some really cool places and people to hang out in/with! I stayed at Driftwood resort on Sugar Beach in Sipalay(southwest coast of Negros) which is owned by a Swiis guy named Peter and his Filipina wife Daisy. It was by far the best lodging I've ever stayed at! The nipa huts were cool and there is a great layout with hammocks etc on the beach and a great little bar with pool table and foosball(sp?)and restaurant etc. Just a great place to chill on the beach, read a book, and if you're feeling energetic go snorkelling(there's a cool wreck that ... read more

Boracay is a small island with one of the prettiest beaches in the world, White Beach. You can spend at least a couple of hours walking this lengthy beach of tawny white sand with smooth white coral pebbles sprinkled at the lapping water's edge. On one end of the beach is a narrow concrete walk around a volcanic peninsula which leads to an emerald green bay. It would have been the perfect place to find a wooden Spanish galleon anchored with bearded men on deck wearing gold earrings and brightly colored scarves tied over their heads. Tucked behind a fringe of coconut palms is a strip of restaurants and shops where you can eat just about any kind of food and drink to your heart's content. We spent four days sampling the different restaurants. Sunset is ... read more

What can I possibly say about this place? There is definitely a heaven on earth and it is found here, without a doubt. The sirens song and clarity of water is truly irresistible, the sand tugs childhood fantasies of sandcastle building and burying a loved one instantly to the surface so much that you need to recognize and act on them. The breezes dance through the palm trees and drift over your skin to butterfly kiss your sun drenched cheeks. Here, your mind has the room it has yearned for, leaving the complexities of life somewhere in the banana tree groves you passed over on the flight to Caticlan. This is a place where your soul can forget about what is true, and live what has been only previously imagined. It can sip fresh mango margaritas ... read more

I have finally figured out Hollywood. I’ve got all those television commercials pegged. I know the secrets of those tourist ad campaigns where a sweeping shot of the most beautiful beach imaginable is shown, where it quickly becomes the backdrop for some catch line as, ‘Visit the most beautiful white sand beaches in the world during your visit to (fill in the blank).’ Yup, I’m on to all of them. Here’s the secret… Boracay, Philippines is all of those pictures. No matter the country, the continent, or hemisphere, it’s Boracay. Boracay is the silhouetted sailboat against a burning sunset, it is the sand so soft it makes you think of flour, it is the brown palm trees with striking green leaves stretching over the aqua marine waters and crystal blue sky, it’s the happy hour margaritas ... read more

There are many places that conjure up elements of fantasy and are high on my list of must visit destinations. One such place has always been Zamboanga and a room at the Lantaka Hotel with a view out into the foreboding Sulu Sea. So, when I decided to celebrate a big O birthday on Boracay, I mapped out a journey from Borneo to Zamboanga and through the Philippines, taking in Boracay and somehow finding my way on to Manila. A lot of people tried to talk me out of it, even my travelling partner, and advise me not to go anywhere near Zamboanga - too dangerous, you should fly. But I'm a persistent bugger and the only flying I was going to do was a flight back from Clark airfield at Angeles City to Kota Kinabalu. ... read more
