After our first propellor plane flight from Cebu to Kalibo, getting to Boracay from Kalibo was very easy. A minibus from the airport to Caticlan, then a ferry to the island and finally a motorbike taxi to White Beach where we hunted for somewhere to stay. It didn't take very long before we'd found a nice big room with a hot shower and tv for just 800PHP (£10.25) for the 3 of us which we really couldn't grumble about. We dumped our bags and headed straight out to see what (another!) one of the best beaches in the world was like and can completely agree with it's placing amongst the top! White Beach which is the main beach on Boracay is stunning, probably the nicest beach that we've been to on our travels and it goes ... read more

Greetings fellow travelbloggers....after a long absence in the scene, here is another entry of my family's recent vacation in the beautiful island of Boracay.... First things first though, we never thought that we will push through because of the typhoon last Saturday morning. When the heavens cleared up, we decided to head to the airport to have our ticket rebooked only to be surprised that the flight is a go.....good thing is that we've decided to bring our stuff in the car. After checking in, it was a long, painful and agonizing wait for our flight. Zeann became restless and has been running around the lounge until settling into my arms to have his siesta. Her sister on the other hand started to hear rumbles in her tummy...there I realize that it was 10 am when ... read more

Kate Prior to Rich announcing his wedding in the Philippines, it wasn't ever a country we had considered visiting. Somehow it's position in the sea on the edge of SE Asia put it outside our radar. Prior to coming to Asia we didn't know much about it other than it was a big group of islands with some beautiful beaches and that it used to belong to Spain and America. I'd heard of Imelda Marcos and her shoe fetish, but I couldn't have told you which country she came from. As we admitted during the first blogs of our SE Asian trip back in 2006, we were sadly lacking in our knowledge of SE Asian history. At our school in Thailand we taught alongside many Filipino teachers so we became aware of a few more ... read more

The first port of call in the multiple-island nation of the Philippines was a short stay in Manila, more specifically the airport hotel, which was a base for an early-morning flight the next day, as well as a half-day trip to the SM mall of Asia, one of earth's largest and most impressive shopping complexes. A 12-lane boulevard leads the way, and then you're pretty much in the shopping mall labyrinth, where shops and food courts abound, and if that all gets too much, there's always the delights of Manila Bay to gaze at from over the balcony. A short-haul flight from Manila airport to Kalibo airport (on the island of Panay) was the next stage, and upon arrival at Kalibo airport, it seemed that all western-style airport civilization had given way to a free-for-all suitcase ... read more

It has been a lovely extended weekend for me and a couple of my co-workers, snorkeling, island hopping, skim boarding, drinking cocktails, eating lots of food and simply just enjoying the cold evening breeze by the shore. This was the best time to once again take the much needed break from work. I was actually here almost at the same time last year. We were originally to arrive at Caticlan Airport which would have saved us so much time but the airport was temporary closed and all the flights were re-routed to Kalibo. It was due to an accident that happened a couple of months back when the tires of a plane burst upon landing. Although our airline provided the free transfer, we could have made better use of the 2 boring hours travel from Kalibo ... read more

Lonely Planet Souvenir Shop on Boracay's white beach Lonely Planet has a very nice store on the main white beach. However, their staff is very dull. They are not that interested to sell and behave as if it would be better if there were no customers in the shop. I guess it is like this because they do not own the store unlike most of the other stores on the beach. But the clothes are very nice and worth the money. Very expensive but as I said worth it.... read more

One of the most beautiful beach towns we've ever visited - Boracay - a short flight south from Manila in the Philippines. The first day on the beach was beautiful - the perfect day topped with an amazing sunset. The second day was overcast and rainy - and the last day, Wednesday, June 24, we woke up to Tropical Storm Nangka (or Feria as it is locally called.) We may be here a day or two longer than expected, but hopefully we get to enjoy another few hours of nice weather before it's time to fly to Manila. Check out a short video we took during the storm at: Storm... read more

Arriving in Boracay last Saturday was a lot easier said than done. There are two airports near the island: Kalibo and Caticlan, the latter being closer (only 5 min from the airport to the harbor and the one at which we were supposed to arrive). Our flight was supposed to come in at around 16:30, giving us enough time to get to the island and search for a place to stay. Didn't happen though... Because of bad (rainy!) weather, our flight was delayed so we didn't leave Cebu until 17:30. We also ended up flying into Kalibo Airport, about an hour away, and taking a bus to Caticlan. We met many people along the way who were also trying to get to Boracay. That's one of the best parts about traveling: Meeting people, hearing their stories, ... read more

This was one of the first weekend getaways I've taken while studying abroad, both in London and Seoul, that I took to purely relax! Normally I try to fit as much sight seeing as possible into the time that I have. Ultimately, I end up needing a vacation from my vacation. I went with Jaime, the girl I met on the flight over to Korea. We sat next to eachother! We booked this entire trip through skype! I ended up buying both tickets through my school becuase they were the cheapest! I ended up running between ATMs and ppl's rooms thats owed me money from past trips! Eventually, after what felt like a marthon of running, I was able to purchase two tickets. We flew into Manilla, and had a few hours of layover. We ... read more
