This was one of the first weekend getaways I've taken while studying abroad, both in London and Seoul, that I took to purely relax! Normally I try to fit as much sight seeing as possible into the time that I have. Ultimately, I end up needing a vacation from my vacation. I went with Jaime, the girl I met on the flight over to Korea. We sat next to eachother! We booked this entire trip through skype! I ended up buying both tickets through my school becuase they were the cheapest! I ended up running between ATMs and ppl's rooms thats owed me money from past trips! Eventually, after what felt like a marthon of running, I was able to purchase two tickets.
We flew into Manilla, and had a few hours of layover. We figured we would just sleep in the airport. Unfortunately, when our flight landed, the airport closed. We had to wait out in the parking lot in the mugginess, sitting on the ground. It was a bad choice on my part to wear a dress! At 0300, the airport opened for us to go inside, unfortunately, we couldn't sleep. It was hot and muggy. Once
we got into the airport there was NOTHING there. We roamed around and dodged the creepy stares from the locals. Our flight left at around 0530, and we were not able to schedule an earlier one. We sat around even longer, just waiting, uncomfortably. We watched a man walk through security where they scanned baggage with a HUGE knife. He wasn't hiding it, so I suppose they felt this was an acceptable carry-on item. This made me think of all the shampoo, make-up, deoderant, waterbottles, and spare contacts I've seen searched through and thrown away while I went through security. We walked out to our very small plane and were lucky enough to see the sunrise flying into Boracay Island. It was an extremely short flight, but I passed out! Those seats were so comfortable and we hadn't slept at all the night before. I was exhausted!
After we landed we took a tuk-tuk, boat, and then another tuk-tuk to get to our hostel. Thank goodness they knew where we needed to go becuase we sure as heck didn't. The tuk-tuk ride was nice. We got to see a little bit of the actual town outside of where we
The front porch of our bungalow
We had a swing on the front porch, and i took a nap in it! were staying. The driver stopped abruptly infront of an ally filled with potholes. He pointed down it for us to go. We walked down the ally hoping that at the end of it wasn't the beginning of the next hostage movie, but our hostel.
It was early morning and was pretty much empty except for a few wanderers up and down the streets and shopowners cleaning up their shops preparing to open. We got to the end of the ally and although I don't really remember, Im almost positive that both of our jaws dropped. There we stood, on the white sand beaches, looking at the crystal clear water. We were in paradise! There were palm trees and outside restaurants as far as we could see in either direction.
We started walking around looking for our hostel. We found it behind this mongolian restaurant. It was hidden by a few trees. We had a nice front porch with hammock. A room with ants on the bed, scary fighting cats outside the window at night, and a shower that trickled out water. But it was perfect! The whole time we were there was mixed between napping, laying on
the beach, and eating lots and lots of italian food and drinking wine! It was absolutely perfect and relaxing! I loved it. It was the perfect retreat from the busy city life. We got massages on the beach at sunset for 5 bucks! You just can't beat that! We questioned why we didn't get one every day!
There were no exciting adventures on this trip, it was just so fun! I forsee Jaime and I purchasing a vacation home there one day. Im sure we would be able to afford the extra 20,000!
