it was our annual team building in the office. one of the perks in working with the government is: you get to travel around the country for free. we spent four days in boracay. "Boracay boasts of a sugary white sand and azure blue waters. The best part of the island is the four kilometer white beach. The surrounding water is shallow and the sand is finer and brighter than most beaches in the Phil archipelago. It is a perfect place for watersports also. one can partake in a smorgasbord of exhilarating aqua action - from swimming and snorkeling to scuba diving, windsurfing, sailboating, kayaking, boardsailing and boating. World renowned Boracay is an adventure island ideal for island hopping, hiking, trekking, caving, mountain climbing, biking and horseback riding. Trekking and mountain biking can bring even the ... read more

October 29 - 31, 2004 BORACAY ISLAND Hailed as the Beach Capital of the Philipines, the palm-studded island of Boracay is the perfect island getaway, with its warm blue waters, and powder-fine white sand. In this tiny, butterfly-shaped island located in Aklan province at the northwestern tip of Panay in Western Visayas , 345 kms. South of Manila, days can be spent simply lazing on the beach while nights are for indulging in the tropical party lifestyle. Nothing compares to the talcum-fine sand of the four-kilometer White Beach. I've been to different beaches with white sand, but still the sand from Boracay, stands the finest of them all. The Island is divided into three Stations - 1, 2 ,3. Station 1, where there is the finest beach-part; Stn 2 - where nightlife and most restaurants are; ... read more

The reputation of Manila precedes it as a city where trouble can find you, if that's what you're looking for. I boarded a flight from Sydney to the capital of the Philippines as the starting point of my trip to the archipelago. Manila is situated on the Luzon island group in the north of the country. I'd previously visited many years ago when an unscheduled flight stopover saw me spending a night in the capital. On that occasion I was taken to a hotel and made myself comfortable over a meal, but was told to bolt the door before going to sleep. That turned out to be good advice as a dodgy character tried to force his way into my room in the dead of night. So I arrived at the hostel this time around feeling ... read more

Looking Back: Boracay - Jan. 1993. The first time I went to Boracay was after I met Margrit in Bangkok. She is from Hungary and has travelled a lot. I also learned about the Lonely Planet guides from her. At the airport in Bangkok, I bought several Lonely Planet guides, of course, I got a Phillipines guidebook. I travel in the Philippines but to places where I had relatives. I began to travel to Cebu in my late teens, I have an uncle whose family is based there. After my friends and I graduated from college, our first trip together was in Cebu. I'll have to write a blog about that trip. Back to Boracay, I went with my dad in 1993. We arrive at the island of Boracay at about 7:00pm. We took a ... read more
