As day four into our Langkawi trip began I finally had a chance for a lie in before we began our journey to another waterfall on the far side of the main island. It was quite a slog in our little rented car due to the windy and hilly roads through the centre of the island but it was a great drive through tropical forest areas, passing numerous groups of monkeys and strange birds along the way. Upon reaching the waterfall we found the climb to be much less exhausting than the one up to the top of Seven Wells, since there were probably less than 100 steps as apposed to 400 odd! There was a pool at the bottom of the waterfall which served as a nice relief from the heat and humidity, although we ... read more

Welcome to my blog. Though I am considered relatively new in the blogging world, I appreciate any comments or feedbacks to my postings. I am an amin traveler and enjoy exploring new places for all sorts of values. From photographing to learning about the place, you will find most of me and my partner (pijoule&eoNes) explorations blogged and documented here, hopefully helpful and detailed enough for my readers.I have been living in the lovely city of Klang in the Selangor district for almost all of my life though... ... read more

Geo: 3.23333, 101.667After quite a nice sleep-in we ate breakfast then went straight to the Batu caves. We'd organised to get a taxi last night so it was all ready and waiting. Once there we got out and the taxi driver showed us to the ticket booth. We bought our tickets and went in, little did we know that we'd only brought tickets to an art gallery thing and to see a few snakes. Neither of us were interested in this so we just walked straight past it trying to find the entrance. After walking back and forth many times and asking three different people for help we found the steps.272 steps! After walking ten or so flights of slippery (it was raining) stairs we were both stuffed. We stopped for a minute and looked and ... read more

We have made it safely to Malaysia after a very long and boring flight - we got in at about 8pm K.L. time yesterday and saw a little bit of the outskirts of the city between getting dinner (and witnessing the largest cockroaches I have ever seen) and going to the Hilton to listen to a Filipino band who were playing there. The humidity was very, very noticeable as soon as we left the airport - we had about a five meter walk from the elevator to the car and were already sweating by the time we got there. This is currently my least favourite thing about Malaysia. I am too small to handle extreme temperatures well and I want to curl up and cry about three minutes after walking outside. Our rooms are each air-conditioned ... read more

Top Times * The home-from-home feel of Fraser's Hill * Jungle trekking (though Christina doesn't agree) * Monkey madness at Batu caves * Shopping in China Town Just a short 3 day stay in Malaysia. From KL airport we drove a couple of hours up to Fraser's Hill (via a stop for food at a local market town). Because of the elevation, rather than the sweltering heat of Kuala Lumpur, its a beautiful temperature all year round, and therefore why a few old Englsh colonial buildings were built there in the early 1900s. We stayed at one which was a old Tudor-style inn/cottage. Luckily, they still had the odd Christmas decoration up, so when we had a big evening meal it felt like we were getting a UK-style Christmas after all. We did some jungle trail ... read more

After an overpriced (the man in the Travel Post Shop in Cherating added a massive 12RM each onto our bus tickets) and a 5 and a half hour bus journey from Cherating back to KL, we headed back to the Original Backpackers Hostel in Chinatown and dumped our bags before heading out for some much needed food, G naturally went back to the Monkee Inn and had her much awaited pizza while Tony sipped on an ice cold one waiting for his chicken and rice. A few more beers later we were back in our rather hot cell for an early night. The next day and our second time in the city was full of novelty things, firstly we had roti for breakfast, something we have been enjoying all the way through Malaysia, still shocked how ... read more

While everyone knows the food in Malaysia is excellent—and cheap—finding good deals on drinks is another issue. Our first night we did sniff out a couple of great spots. We were staying in the Golden Triangle at Guest House Eight (little overpriced, but nice: air con, hot water, Wonder Bread for breakfast, free wi-fi with your own computers). The next time we go back we’ll stay on the same street but at some place else. Anyway, we wandered down one street nearby (I'm forgetting the name) which is filled with tons of restaurants and bars—and here is what we totally loved and recommend. Werner’s has a special during happy hour 5-10 that with every drink, you receive a free tapa of your choice. And these tapas are great. Fried calamari, rustic bread with dark chocolate, shrimp ... read more

So Vietnam won the poll, for those of you that didn't spot my brief note at the bottom of the last entry. I've got a visa and have a flight booked as well, so I'll tell you all about it in another couple of weeks. But first... Kuala Lumpur Dad was stationed in Singapore when he was in the Navy in the late 50's. He'll have had Chinese food for the first time, watched dragon-dances at New Year and been amazed at all the red lanterns, silks and gold embroidery around. In the days before cheap air travel allowed us all to go abroad for our holidays it must have been an incredible time for him. He brought some tastes home with him and I remember being the first kid in my class to use ... read more

Geo: 4.21048, 101.976Thursday 12/02/09 Port Klang - Malaysia Temps air 31°C Sea 29°C Because of the size of the ship we had to berth in the commercial docks, meaning a 45 minute ( if your lucky) coach journey into KL which is the main only place of interest, as we stayed in KL two years ago we opted to take a 25 minute complementary shuttle to the 3rd largest shopping mall in southern Asia. Whilst there in addition to the normal tourist shopping ( I've never seen so many shoe shops, and women's shoes as well as being plentiful, varied, and available in just about every size, with the sales on they started from £3.00!!!!!) We took the opportunity to stock up with a few other essentials like lager, nibbles, soft drinks etc. before returning to ... read more
