Hello! Well we are now in a place called Kota Bharu in the top east corner of Malaysia waiting until 9pm for a bus across the country so we can head into Thailand tomorrow and get to Ko Phi Phi (where the beach was filmed) and chill out again! We've had a great couple of days on Pulau Perhentian island which is a little paradise place where we just flaked out and did a bit of snorkelling to see huge turtles, lots of fish and a shark!!! I don't know how big it was but I swam so fast away to tell Craig that I didn't take it in! The only problem on this island was NO ALCOHOL!!! AAaarrrgh! No nice cocktails whilst lazing in a hammock! Rubbish! My tummy is now better - I think ... read more

Howdy all, The end of the working week in Belgium is approaching and we are still on the go... Following our last message from Bangkok, we successfully completed the 15 hour train journey to the south of Thailand after which we set sail for the Island of Ko Lipe. Lipe is a lovely island, we just arrived in a bad moment. It appears that the Thais have a long weekend while we were there and therefore there were way too many people on the island. Despite the busy atmosphere, we enjoyed our stay and the white sandy beaches and off course the sun. We also enjoyed our meals at Pooh's bungalows under Stino's (stijn de weer) picture on the wall. Pooh says hi by the way Stino... For our last part of the trip, we embarked ... read more

Adrian Yeap's Wedding In Kota Bahru on 17 Nov 2007 My 1st TravelBlog site created in dedication to a special true friend Adrian a.k.a Tai Lo who wed his love of his life Ah Meng. May he lived happily ever after with his wife in the PAS ruled state! It was Friday 16 Nov 2007 - the day I made my 1st trip up to Kota Bahru, Kelantan for the first time ever. For some reasons, I arrived at KLCCT airport rather late (barely 1 hour before the departure time) and my good friend Ah Liang had to inform the pilot to hold the flight for me - well at least that was the sms I received from him seconds before I reached the airport. Being a frequent traveller to Miri, Sarawak, I got panicked for ... read more

well i must say the islands turned out to be tops. in way i am sorry to put it on a blogg as all and sundry will now be making their way to the perentians!!! we arrived on time for the ferry - a quick and easy half hour by boat to long beach which is the backpacker stop. we had picked out moonlight bungalows and even though they did not have a front one available we took the second row for the first night and prayed someone would leave the next day. room with aircon and cold shower 70 ringit which is good value in any currency about R116.00. we walked the beach checking out the other places but nothing was available so we stuck where we were and as luck would have it our ... read more

well here we are in Kota Bharu by the seat of our pants and i will get to that later. we loved melaka and will have to back there as we did not see it all. the hotel was good though a bit out of town but we found the explorer bus that went past the hotel and that was such good value and ran till quite late so that worked out perfectly. the small streets of china town were wonderful and then we went to the museum, clibed the hill to the old church on the top and without my guide book handy cant remember the name but that is where jan van riebeecks wife is buried!!! so it was meaningful to me as a south african. anyway yesterday we caught the bus to kl ... read more

Day 191 (02.10.07) As we were leaving early in the morning we had had to set the alarm to get us up - tha lazy days had meant that the constant 6am wakeups were a long and distant memory. Up packed and ready to go down to the beach we went to reception to get our valuables from the safe. Unfortunately, unbenownst to us, the reception was not to open until 8am - the same time as our boat! Oh dear. Feeling pretty bad (not that bad as there was no sign to day it would not be open) Mark went and woke one of the owners and got him to come and open the safe or us - result! With 5 mins to spare we got our stuff and went down to the beach to ... read more

After a good sleep in Kenyir resort, I drove with the family to Kota Baru (KB). Since we have to pay for the breakfast in the resort, and still have some buns left over, we took a few quick bite and decided to take breakfast on the way to KB. At the checking out, we found that the boat fair was not inclusive in the hotel charges of RM120 per night. Later we paid the boat driver RM40 for both to and fro trips. The journey to KB was shorter compared to that to Kenyir and we started early at 10am so it was a leisure drive and not rushing. We stopped half way at Permaisuri town and took roti canai. The taste was so so. When getting nearer to KB we started to see vast ... read more

So ur last morning in the jungle and we headed back to civilisation, travelling down stream this time so shaving an hour off our time in the boat. One good thing in an awkward day of travel. We had herd that the train up north to Kota Bahru was at 1.30pm so we were in no rush at the other end before someone said that it was actually at 11.40am (it was 11.20am at the time and the station was 30km away). Another couple were after the same train so we had a hair raising ride to the station happily getting there in time though. Now the thing about the trains is (we could have easily taken a faster bus) that there is a slow 'Jungle train' all guide books rave about which goes up through ... read more

Hello, it's Ben. We are in Kota Bharu now, up on the north eastern tip of Malaysia. It is supposedly a very conservative, traditional islamic place, but so far in that respect it hasn't differed much from the other parts of mainland Malaysia we've seen. However, the singing to bring people in for prayer at the local mosque was the best i've heard in the country! It didn't have the spooky tinge we'd heard in places like Melaka, it was almost chirpy! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it as we wandered around the town today! On Pulau Perhentian Kacil (the long name!) i asked this guy Jason (a Malay from Kuala Lumpur) whether they were recordings or live performances and he said that most of the time they are live performances, even at 4.30 in the ... read more

Since Singapore 24 days have passed, 7 places have been visited and Thailand been planned. Originally I thought to stay around 2 weeks and to move on to more interesting places, now that I have spend (with Penang, before Australia) 3 weeks in this country I feel, that I still have a lot more to explore, which makes me leave with a partly unsatisfied feeling. However, the country has shown a lot of beauty, cultural and religious understanding and many interesting people, teaching me a different life style (just today I talked to 2 lively and very chatty young Malay girls, whilst eating sushi in a restaurant - uh I always wanted to eat in one of those sushi bars, when the food rolls by in front of your eyes). One of them to be ... read more
