At KLCCT Airport
Outside McD's having brunch, waiting to board Air Asia to Kelantan for the first time... Adrian Yeap's Wedding In Kota Bahru on 17 Nov 2007
My 1st TravelBlog site created in dedication to a special true friend Adrian a.k.a Tai Lo who wed his love of his life Ah Meng. May he lived happily ever after with his wife in the PAS ruled state!
It was
Friday 16 Nov 2007 - the day I made my 1st trip up to Kota Bahru, Kelantan for the first time ever. For some reasons, I arrived at KLCCT airport rather late (barely 1 hour before the departure time) and my good friend Ah Liang
had to inform the pilot to hold the flight for me - well at least that was the sms I received from him seconds before I reached the airport. Being a frequent traveller to Miri, Sarawak, I got panicked for a while when I realised I did not bring my Domestic passport, which I thought was a requirement for me to fly anywhere within Msia! - This is true for me to enter into Miri ok! Luckily My Card was good enough...
Upon checking in....
it was all catching up with old friends....Ah Liang & wife from Brunei... Ah Foo, YH & YL from KK....outside Mc D's while waiting to board the flight. Too bad Sean pulled out last minute 😞
We all stayed at Mahkota Tower Service Apartment, next to Renaissance Hotel where the wedding dinner was held. The Praying Altar
The "Secret" that must not be lost over time... Its the one and only apartment which fully tests out your IQ - To go to Floor 13A, you need to press for Floor 15 in the lift for if you press for Floor 13A in the lift, you will end up in another floor! Even the Security Guards got very confused...
First nite in Kota Bahru was spent at Adrian's house eating his favourite "Prosperity Buscuits" and drinking while his Kelantan heng-tais entertained us. Me being rather introvert nowadays didn't talk much to his Kelantan friends...well except for an exceptional guy by the name of "Adrian Part 2" as how Ah Liang put it. His name was Adrian Tenh, a real hussler who kicked my ass in snooker during my trip there. The score was a horrible humiliating 4 - 1 defeat. Ahhh...who cares, I played with a Manchester University snooker player who has won the district competition ok and kicking his ass in the one and only frame that I won by a huge margin was enough to redeem my ego 😊
Saturday, 17 Nov 2007 - "The Big Day"
We reached Adrian's house at about 10am ish that morning, seeing Adrian is his brown My Magic Wedding Shoe
"I'm going to sweep my Ah Meng off her feet with this!" short Kelante Apek pants, smiling and looking very relax. Hong Hong couldn't stop herself admiring the little praying altar that Adrian's aunty was setting up. As she was so afraid this Chinese art of altar preparation will die off in future when kids become less "grateful" people, she snapped a photo of the altar plan, containing the precious tel no 03-2072 1662. Among the many snippets of the morning, the one I enjoyed the most was seeing happy Tai Lo waxing his shoe! Oooohhhh...don't you think that smile could melt His Ah Meng and sweep her off her feet?? Hahaha...
Sharp at 11am, the whole battalion started their cars and left for the bride's house, led in front by the groom's silver mettalic Toyota Fortuner Reg No DAV 3070. It was just a 10 minutes drive away, slow and steady passing through the many many traffic lights that we were told to count in order not to miss the turning.
Next was the few cool moments I witnessed of Adrian & his 'heng tais'. He immediately sat down upon arrival, opening up & drinking a bottle of cold Borneo mineral water and cheekily telling the 'chi muis' to Wedding Roses
"Aiyahh why stand so long...better sit down first if they don't want to open the door" open the door whilst his heng tais all rush to grab food for themselves leaving the chi muis all blurrrrr thinking....."Hey I though you are here for the bride and NOT the food!" If this is not enough...after several failed persuasions to open the main door after having succumbed to the demands of the chi muis, they started the Fortuner's car engine and got back on the chi muis instead "Ehhh if you girls don't want to open the door, we are leaving!" - Wah confirm Tai Lo and his heng tais got style! Damm cool man..
Guess I didn't tell you Adrian that you don't look sissy anymore after all these years when I saw you holding those roses, battling your way into the house...
...and the story continues
The main door was finally opened when all his heng tais wrestled with the chi mui and won in forcing open the door! After playing a few more games (which I missed when a call from offshore came in), the golden door to the bride's room finally opened where Adrian flashed off the wedding ring, got down on his knees and slowly slitting it onto his wife's In Goes The Wedding Ring
"Do you know that I almost forgot this ring when I left my house just now...too kan cheong to get you mah" delicate finger, watched by his cute little daughter! Hoorayyyy!!!
The next few hours after this were all the typical Chinese cultural practice of 'phang teh' for the parents and relatives and jewelleries givings. So off we went to wack the famous 'roti jala' and curry chicken outside Ah Meng's house, which according to Adrian, a must-not-miss in Kelantan. Indeed the roti jala was mouth watering, thin and tender when bitten with the Kelantan kampung curry chicken
....and now "The Wedding Dinner" @ Renaissance Hotel
We indulged ourselves in a short afternoon nap (except me who got my ass wacked by Adrian Tenh in a game of snooker), knowing very well the nite is going to be a long one, filled with flowing alc*h*ls. Yeah...don't look down on Kelantan weddings ok, they are just as Non-Halal and happening as the rest of the non-PAS states 😊
The MC for the nite was not the usual 'friend requested' type but looks like someone hired and really funky, sounds more like a radio deejay actually. But the highlight of the nite was not the food (sorry Adrian, didn't mean it wasn't good ok...and I do like your speech until Our Dinner Table
Great reunioun for us Sunway @ Leicesterians people after so long! you told me it was prepared by Miss XXX),...it was not those aunties and uncles, it was not your Kelantan heng tais who could really scream 'Yam Seng' on top of their lungs ....BUT it was these few friend of yours by the names of Stanley the "Taiwanese Guy", Eric the "Jet Li" and Ah Jun "The Cook" who all coloured our remaining nite with lots of smooooth Kelante moooovees! Now you know what I mean and I shall not continue any further from this point onwards - else YL & YH are going to kill me 😊
The final bit of the night was also memorable for me and I bet for Ah Foo as well. No one can believe it that our Mr Bubu Lau was 'On Form' during drinking and later finding himself so darn awake that he had to come and talk kok in our room (me & Foo) till wat 4.30am??!!! Our batteries were already so low at that wee hours of the morning and could only contribute our laughs and giggles to Liang while he talks until the sun almost rise...Ahhhh Liang, that was good and am sure our friend Ah Foo has Circle of Friends
Look at those nostrils... "learnt" quite a fair bit on you know wat la 😊
To Adrian, it was a great experience again with you, carving another chapter of your life together for those 2 days I was there...and seeing you marrying the Love of Your Life! I'm glad that I could be part of this special day of yours, though at the very last minute...
Congratulations again from All of Us!
