I've been slack. This blogging is harder than I thought. I will go back and write about our beautiful island Ko Chang, and Bangkok, but I thought I had better update you about our whereabouts. As you can tell by the title, we are now in Laos. We are in South Laos, in Pakse. We crossed the Thailand border yesterday, after catching an overnight train from Ayutthaya to Ubon Ratchatani, and then an International bus which took us across the border at Chong Mek. The train left Ayutthaya at aroiund 8.30pm, and we had booked second-class sleepers, which were comfortable and clean, but it's a bit hard to sleep when everytime they stop at a station (which was often) there are announcements over the loud-speakers. Also, you can't really see anything, but you can feel the ... read more

824km, 4 puntures, 2 new inner tubings, 1 new tyre, a few cuts and grazes, 2 very sore behinds BUT one amazing trip! The last 4 days have been fantastic, some of the best on this trip so far but boy are we glad to be back walking! Today is considered as a nothing day to us as we sit and update the blog. We woke up late and enjoyed having another shower to wash off the final filth. After breakfast consisting of a very large baguette and banana shake we intend on using the interent for much of the day and awaiting out 12 hour bus journey which leaves tonight at 8.30. ... read more

Very early in the morning the light streaming through the window woke us both up and we reluctantly packed up what remained of our possessions and headed to the pier to catch our boat. Of course the rain was pouring and we got a tad wet but we managed to get onto the boaqt along with three others for the journey back accross the Mekong. Arriving at the other side we unloaded our stuff and walked the 500m to find our bus. After a fast breakfast of Pho we set off in the back of a truck for Pakse. This was when the light showers turned into a torrential storm. Mark wrapped himself inside his jacket and i hid under the tarpaulin but after a few hours we arrived in Pakse, safe and fairly dry. When ... read more

Good to see you popped in to check the latest news of our "World Amazing Discoveries Adventure Trip". Guess u r fine and everything's under control in your place, hope the daily business doesn't suck all your energy and power, try to keep a portion for the happy hours. With smiles on our faces and some teardrops in our eyes we crossed the border from Cambodia to Laos recently. You can feel the much slower pace immediately, this country seems still to be in a kind of suspend mode .. let's cross fingers that it will stay like this for quite a while. After some hassle in Vietnam and Cambodia we very much appreciate the calm atmosphere in laid-back Laos. We stayed the first 2 days on a stunning small island near the border called Don ... read more

Day 26 We arrived in Pakse after as good of sleep one could expect on a bus at 6.30am only to be bombarded by 10 people demanding to take us somewhere! We eventually jumped on a tuk tuk (apprehensively) with another 8 people and headed for Sabaidy Guesthouse only to find it full. Not keen on waiting around for people to check out Jez went exploring whilst Carly minded the bags, and we ended up settling at Nasin... Hotel- big stark and generally ugly but relatively cheap. After a quick kip that turned into a couple hours we dragged ourself out to explore. Not thrilled with a fairly drab Pakse we grabbed a bite to eat, hired a moto with too few directions and hit the road. Not 100% sure whether we were on the right ... read more

I had a few hour lay over in Pakse on our journey from the Four Thousand Islands to Vientienne. I was disappointed to read in the Lonely Planet that there was not much going on in Pakse, that it was a sleepy town and quite boring. They couldn't have got it more wrong, or perhaps they haven't been there for the New Years celebrations. There were a few interesting Watts and a river to check out, so off I went on my merry way. Within minutes I was soaked to the bone. I didn't mind, it was a sweltering hot day and the cool water was a welcome refreshment. I managed to get most of the sites in and even saw some monkies before the real party swung into action. I was just walking along the ... read more

PAKSE We have arrived in Pakse again in early hours of a morning, and the journey was not bad at all, VIP bus did the trick. Finding a guest house was easy as well, we had shower and had some rest. We had to plan where to go next, although the area look ideal for trecking, however me Romi with badly burn calf would not manage to do it. Decision was made next day to 4000 Islands. TUK TUK RIDE OF OUR LIFE As we have missed the early minibus to Don Knong, as result of very helpfull staff at the guest house, we had to go with the public bus... well Tuk Tuk ... it was fun... although some of the other westerners did not share out enthusiasm. There was lot of us, and some ... read more

PAKSE- After our adventures around the Bolaven Plateau we spent the next two days in Pakse recovering and doing a few wee sightseeing tours. And being on the go since we left London 5 weeks ago we haven’t had a day just to catch up and do jack shit all so this was the perfect time. We spent the first day with a good sleep in and then had a look around the shops, which we will say it’s the only time that a extra large t shirt hasn’t fitted as it was to small but never mind what can you say at $1.50 a pop you can’t go wrong! After that it was back to the hotel and we had room service for lunch, lay on the bed and did not a hell of a ... read more

Aamulla olin valmiina kuljetukseen rajalle ja odotellessani kyytia bussifirma tarjosi mahdollisuutta ostaa lippu heti Paksen kaupunkiin asti, ja koska sunnitelmani oli sinne paasta niin tartuin tahan helppoon vaihtoehtoon. Matka kohti rajaa aloitettiin ylittamalla Mekong veneella jonka moottori juuri ja juuri pysyi kaynnissa taristen holtittomasti kuskin jaahdyttaessa sita joesta kauhomallaan vedella. Vaikka joki levea onkin niin purkki pysyi pinnalla aina toiselle puolelle asti jossa nelja turistia jotka kyseiselle reitille olivat lahteneet, kavelivat jokitorman ylos ja ylhaalla ohjeena oli odottaa kyytia. Jonkin ajan kuluttua, pienen spekuloinnin maksetun lipun riittavyydesta mihinkaan joen rantaa kauemmaks jalkeen, auto kuitenkin tuli noutamaan ja hyvin aution nakoista tieta pitkin etenimme kunnes vastaan tuli pieni koppi paikassa jossa tie naytti loppuvan. Kyseessa siis oli Kambotzan... read more
