Calm down, Lindis. Calm down. Dear english speaking people. I will write you a letter. Join facebook! Sallie: Hello! I'm looking forward to cathing up with you on email. THe language written on these pages are cryptic. Call it norwegian if you want to. Jeg orker ikke begynne paa alle de utrolig morsomme historiene jeg skrev om i gaar. Fresh start. Foerst av alt, kan jeg jo si at jeg er kommet til Laos. Ankom i gaar. Trodde det skulle bli forferdelig pes. Men til all lettelse og lgede, smilte folket. Jeg fikk dermed ingen svetteringer under armene. Svetteringer fikk jeg dog i haaret. Sola steikte fra rett over huet. Skyggen av meg selv var under min kropp. Saa jeg fikk ikke laget skyggehund med hendene. Buhu. I Thailand og Laos er det for tiden nyttaarsfeiring. ... read more

The sleeper bus....journey from hell So I was excited about the prospect of getting on a sleeper bus for our 10 hour journey to Vientiane. After several rather uncomfortable long bus journeys I was sure this was going to be first class...how wrong I was. One word of advice....never board a sleeper bus. The alarm bells started ringing when we actaully saw the bus...the beds appeared to be able to fit 2 people in them? Surely not...I mean who would want to lie down to sleep next to a complete stranger????????? Ughhhh yes they were. Fortunatley me and Claire had tickets next to each other so we were sharing a bed, bad luck for Lulu...every time a Laos guy got on the bus she was wondering whether he was about to board her bed... 30mins ... read more

Country number 3....Laos! We flew to Laos this morning...wasn't quite the plan but we kind of went the wrong way in Cambodia so had no choice but to fly. We flew with Laos airlines who are apparently the most dangerous airline to fly with..(with 5 crashes under their belt since 1990) and we flew on the smallest plane ever...but no worries we got there in one piece....feeling a little sick but definetly in one piece. We are in Pakse. Not a massive place but I swear no one lives here, its like a ghost town. Ate some really good fish by the Mekong River though and then chilled out....to be honest there is absolutley nothing to do here. If I had to live here I would kill myself! ... read more

The bus trip to Pakxe was a trial that I don't care to repeat any time soon. My first mistake was getting involved in an "English practice" conversation at the bus station, during which I agreed to sit with the guy through to his destination at Savannakhet. It turned out he'd picked a seat over the wheel arch, which isn't a problem if you're 5'6" but can be considered somewhat cramped if you're 9 inches taller and most of it leg. The bus had no A/C and stopped so frequently that even the local people were getting cheesed off. People here will use public transport for tasks as luggage-intensive as even moving house, so picking up passengers can take up 20 minutes or more. My conversation partner was replaced at Savannakhet by an irritating woman who ... read more

Fri 2nd March: Got up arly, Tuk tuk to bus station and got the bus. Well, a converted people carrier open on the back and the sides, crammed full of locals and their shopping apart from us two and 3 hippies. The hippies sound like they are from Isreal, the two men have long hair and long beards, the women has Earth-Mamma goddess hair (probably hairy legs too). They were friendly, but quite bossy to the driver, forcing him to drop us off right at the boat pier, not in the town. So we're at a port, not sure whther to do Don Det or Don Khong, so we chose Don Det. It's in the 4000 islands region of Laos, right in far south and you can see cambodia across the water. Arrived off our boat ... read more

At last update we had arrived in Vang Vieng, did one day of tubing, and had a bus ticket booked south. Unfortunately, due to the sheer awesomeness of the tubing lifestyle, instead we were "forced" to cancel and postpone our bus ticket and hit the river for a couple more days. We were able to meet up with Chantel and Patrick, whom we'd seen down in Vientiane a week or so earlier. The few days on the river were a blast of course, we partook in the regular activities of floating aimlessly, flying off the trapeze rope swing, playing volleyball and enjoying Beer Laos, or "river juice" as we like to refer to it. Somehow we managed to wake up and not go tubing, and actually get on a bus and leave one of the most ... read more

Hi Everyone!! Thanks so much for all your comments, emails etc, its so nice to hear from you all!! Since my last blog its been a mixed bag of events really, from amazing days to crap nights on a night bus with NO legroom to being stranded in a bus station at 4am!! After my last blog we had a really good night, it was our farewell gathering so we went to a really nice expensive restaurant, still only 2.50 pound for fillet steak, we had such a nice meal and of course a few 'beer laos' to send us on our way. It was really sad saying bye to part of our group but I'm sure we'll all bump into each other again soon! The next morning the remainder of the group, me, Ed, Clare, ... read more
