Sunday July 15 Well, we are now on the way home. I’m sitting in the JAL lounge at Narita waiting for our flight to JFK. It leaves at 12:00 PM and arrives in JFK at 11:30 AM on the same day - we arrive a half hour before we take off - the flight is 13 hours. Narita is closing all flights at 12:30 PM due to weather conditions from the typhoon - we are, again, lucky. It has been a real adventure! Nancy and I have just had an incredible time. All of our plans and reservations have worked out fine - no major problems (assuming we get on JAL flight JL06 and it gets “wheels up” to JFK). In about a week or so I will make a final blog entry. Some final ... read more

UntitledJeff and Nancy Weed Thursday 11:00 AM Well - the journey is REALLY starting now. We made it back to JFK - left the hotel early - breakfast buffet looked terrible and way overpriced. We had a great breakfast at the terminal at a good price. I am very relaxed now … checked-in to the flight - super easy - Japan Airlines offers incredible service. Right now Nancy and I are in the JAL executive lounge (we have business class seats) - free Wi-Fi, food and drinks. It IS nice - and we do deserve it. Two hours until boarding, then a 14 hour flight to Tokyo (Narita), a two hour layover, and then a 4.5 hour flight to Hong Kong. We arrive in Hong Kong at 21:35 Friday, 6/29. Thursday 7:00 PM We have been ... read more

*Rebekah says...* Greetings from Narita Duty Free, aka "Tokyo's 5th Avenue", Despite ominous tales and remembrances of land travel to JFK our ride was truely painless (although I can't yet speak for the rude back frin JFK, Thanks Brendan!). A 12 hour flight to Tokyo later we are killing time and contemplating Asian Bowl Bowl to supplement all the wonders American Airlines had to offer... Tonight Rachel and i will fly into Bangkok then to Cambodia tomorrow, well our tomorrow I suppose. We would both still love to hear from all of you. Yours in times of noodles and sleep deprivation, Rebekah PS Rachel thought it important to send out this tip to our fellow travels 'beware the serious fat foot action!' aka major foot swelling which comes as a result of 12 hours in the ... read more

Writing from an airport in a travel blog feels odd. I'm required to specify from where I'm writing, and naturally then had to select, in order, Asia, Japan, Narita . . . . but that doesn't seem to describe this place. I feel embarassed now, like a traveler who shamefully counts the airport as a visited location. Airports are wonderful indeed - giant machine-cities, churning out travelers like fabrege factories, forever kinetic, forever static. Always alive in monotonous motion. Here in Narita I can feel myself getting closer to destination. Approximately 20 hours ago I said goodbye to my parents and lugged two bags and a guitar up to the American Airlines (rahrah Snyle) international check-in counter in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The flight to Dallas was standard. Boarding the Dallas-Tokyo flight (which I barely made) took on ... read more

Hi everyone! I'm finally online! Seattle is a nice city, and has a downtown like San Diego, where you can walk and shop. etc. I had three things planned. First, I went to the Space Needle by monorail, which was a 2-minute ride from downtown, then back downtown to Pike Place Market, which was a lot of fun and a couple blocks to the water. Besides fresh produce and tons of fresh fish, there were lots of artisan stalls, and the original Starbucks location. I bought an original wood-block print (don't worry Mike-not expensive!) of the famous market sign from a local guy (it appeared I may have been supporting a habit...), then crossed the 3rd thing off my list with a good local coffee. The downtown area had probably two coffee shops and/roasters (excuse me, ... read more

Wow, we are back in the Narita airport. It is about 3:30 pm on 3/24 here, but about an hour after we take off headed to San Francisco, we will again cross the international date line and it will be 3/23 again! New form a deja vu. We have traveled without problems and are definitely making our way back into Denver on schedule. It is very surreal to think back on our time in Kathmandu and Parasi. Although it was only 30 hours ago that we left, it feels like a misty memory, a world away from reality right now. I didn't really every understand that feeling until right now. Must get to the gate, don't want to miss the flight! Hugs, Sarah... read more

We arrived at Narita Airport, and checked in strolled the shops. After check in, a few drinks and snacks in the Cathay Pacific lounge, and we boarded our flight, a Boeing 7474-400. Comfortably seated in 2A and 3A, we were offered pre takeoff Champagne by a noticeably friendly crew, all smiles and chatting. Well, these crew turned out to be one of the best crews we have ever experienced! Nothing was too much trouble for these flight attendants! They were so friendly and so professional, and their service was just perfect. After a wonderful dinner (Paul has the Japanese Keiseki menu again and Jeff had the Western) and some movies and a snooze, we commenced our descent in Hong Kong. For some reason the crew wanted me (Jeff) to come to the galley, but why? ... read more
