:) :) ... read more

Hi all, Matthew has already described our terrifying drive; it was followed by an eexciting boat journey to Cubadak (pronounced Chewbadak) Island. We were loaded onto a small boat that looked like it was sitting quite low in the water. The night was pitch black, no moon visible, only enough starlight and the odd flash of lightning to see the outline of the mountains. Our boat departed with no running lights, just a fellow in the prow holding a torch to look for reefs and other boats. And we were travelling so fast that our pilot wouldn't have had time to change course if he had to. Had to trust that these guys knew what they were doing. After what seemed like ages, but was probably only 30 minutes, the lights of Villa Paradiso came into ... read more

We were promised an air con minibus to pick us up at 8am for our long journey to Gunung (Mount) Bromo. What did we get? A rickety old minibus with an exceedingly grumpy, madman, chain smoking driver and air con which was warm and as strong as a baby's sigh! What made it worse was that whenever the driver wanted a fag (which seemed to be every 10 minutes), he rolled down his window thereby cancelling the effect of the very weak air con. Thanks to the crazy weaving in and out of traffic and high speed driving over speed bumps we arrived into Solo desperately needing a wee...good job we had to stop to collect other people for the rest of the journey to Bromo. In addition to ourselves, we were sharing a van with ... read more

Our train was 2 hours late leaving Jakarta, if we'd have known we could have had an extra hour in bed! The train journey was ok, we got water and a meal included but half way through the journey it started raining and of all the seats the leaky carriage roof could have leaked on it had to be Donna's, so she spent half the journey sat forward on the edge of her seat, making Neil feel incredibly uncomfortable and uneasy! So we arrived into Yogyakarta (or Yogya as the locals call it) to rain...pouring rain. We looked like drowned rats when we arrived into the hostel and had the manager scurrying after us with a mop! Yogya isn't the luckiest of cities having experienced earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunami's in recent years owing in part, to ... read more

Good day to you woodland folk and to the army of the traveling gypsies. So word on the street is that I am back in the land of the shield, spear and William Webb Ellis trophy-hooray, yippie, goodie, (another happy excited word goes here)!! So the word is indeed true, but I don’t know what it is doing in the street. I am home and happy to see the family and the few friends that are still actually residing within the borders of our beautiful country. I will be here for another 6 days before I jet off again to Australia for three weeks for a family holiday, my life really isn’t fair at the moment, for others that is. No it should be a really sweet time with the family and I am so unbelievably ... read more

After a marathon 24 hours train journey to Guangzhou and a very luxurious bus to the Macau-China border (3 hours) we arrived at what must be the strangest border crossing we have ever went through. It was basically a large shopping centre and when we asked which way to Macau the Information lady replied '3rd floor'...we thought it was a mistake on her part, how could Macau possibly be located on the 3rd floor of this massive shopping complex? After going up two sets of escaltors, it seemed that Macau was indeed on the 3rd floor and after a long drawn out 2 hours (!) going through Immigration we got to the airport for our flight to Jakarta. Just a quick note here that Macau airport is shit...only high end shops, expensive internet and super rude ... read more

Hi! We would like to start this blog off with a request/ challenge. We have a good friend in Olympia who has a son named Jayson. He is currently in 3rd grade and learning about our world. He has recently started a worldwide stamp collection and we’ve been trying to help him by sending a postcard from each country that we have traveled to. I would like to ask that each of you write down his address and when you travel outside the US in the next few months please send him a postcard from whatever country you are in. I know that many of you have friends and family living and traveling abroad. Would you please send this request to them and ask them to send him a card. We would like to see if ... read more

Jag trodde lite naivt ... read more

Dear All, So we finished in Singapore and headed on one of our shortest flights across to the small island of Bali...known to many as Surfers Paradise, and the honeymooners hot spot. We arrived late on the 1st December and booked straight into the hotel and hit the sack! These flights really take it out of you! Next day we woke up to have a wonder down to the beach and see what all the fuss was about, it took us nearly 3 hours to actually get to these golden sands, when they are only 300m away...reason? Shopping, perhaps the cheapest place we have been so far, and when you get bartering you can suggest any price walk away and they run down the street after you! Its soo good i think Sarah-Jane is on her ... read more
