Day 58 cont So after I last updated this we headed to the post office to post some stuff and grab some street noodles for lunch. Then a very exciting thing happened I found cider in a bar! Cider is impossible to find anywhere and after 8 weeks of fruitless searching there it was on the menu however it was about £3 for a tiny bottle, ah well it was worth it! After this we had a 4 litre chang beer tower which we polished off in no time before heading out shopping on the kaosan road. Picked up a few bargains then headed back to the hotel by this time we were knackered so decided against a show and had a quiet night in a bar and restaurant near the hotel. Day 10 & 11 Yogyakarta Day 10 Nov. 8 Sultan Palace & Bird Market. I was feeling sick so I stayed in and worked on the finances for the trip and the blog. The group went to the bird market and the Sultan’s Palace. Hopefully Paul will have some pictures. That evening we had a party with the Yoyga and Solo Club. Everyone in Indonesia can sing and everyone knows the American songs between 1950 and 1970. Airfin, Dr. Adam and the whole Indonesian crew could really sing and we only had Ken Tran. Paul’s pictures of the party are great but they do not do justice to the joy in our hearts. Day 11 – Nov. 9 What a great, great, great day, it was a cultural feast. First we went to the hospital and ... read more

Day 72 Pangandaran to Yogyakarta (Mon 13th Sept) Just another travel day today. We drove past Jakarta, which took hours! The amount of traffic in this country is incredible, but at least some of the roads are properly surfaced here. We also managed to get in before dark tonight for a change. We ate dinner at the hotel and had a relaxing evening. Actually, the only remotely interesting thing that happened all day was that we discovered (by way of a rather odd conversation to begin with) that Ali had been going to the toilet backwards. Since Iran. No wonder she never had enough room! Okay so I know Asian toilets are a little different, but really...this provided entertainment for quite a while and Lynn and I couldn’t stop laughing. Who needs a TV anyway? Day ... read more

We arrived in Yogyakarta or Yogya with an even more violent landing then in Lombok... It was raining and was already dark so not much to see till the hotel. Our hotel "1001 Malam" is really great even if the access through a small pedestrian way may look a bit scary during rainy nights. It seems newly built and is very close to the commercial street of Malioboro. We went for dinner after check in in a restaurant close to the hotel full of backpackers. We shared a table with 2 Austrian chicks making a 6 month tour of South East Asia and gave them plenty of tips for their next destination... Bali. The next morning, we wake up to make a tour in the city. We were told to visit mainly Malioboro street, the Sultan ... read more

Sunday, 8th August 2010 After finishing our tour at the Borobudur temples, 4 of us continued our journey in the afternoon towards the north in the direction of Magelang where the Losari Coffee Plantation was located. It was fortunate that our stomaches were not growling even though we had missed our lunch today. I guessed this had got to do with the hearty breakfast we had this morning for this unusual phenomenon. Located at over 800m above sea level (at least that's what our guide told us), the Losari Plantation had a relatively cool weather to thank in a lush and idyllic backdrop. This was in stark contrast with the scorching heat and the consequential sun burns we experienced in Borobudur. After an hour’s drive, we reached our destination sometime after 2.30pm today. The Coffee Plantation ... read more

Saturday, 7th August 2010 It has been 6 long years since I last took an Air Asia flight to a holiday destination. Gone were the days of old and obsolete planes from the bygone era. We were greeted by brand new A320 flights for our flight this morning to Yogyakarta, the cultural heart of Indonesia. Arriving at Terminal 3 basement foodcourt at 9.15am this morning, my mates had already demolished their breakfast as I proceeded to get a quick bite from one of the grumpy storeholders from China. "Please leave your sour plum faces at home. This is not your HDB kopitiam. You are representing the Singapore Changi Airport Group." The Air Asia check-in counters were mobbed by eager holiday makers who were making use of the National Day long weekend for a quick getaway. Our ... read more

potuttaa… Hirveä skootteri-, becak- ja autoliikenne, ... read more

... read more
