We got here all good just were really tired- thats what 4 hours sleep in 72 hours does to you though I suppose! The flight to hong kong was great and I def want pampering on all flights in the future! Skinner watched a film called 7 pounds and cried.... Hong Kong is probably the hottest place we have ever been, and it is just as hot at night as in the day ! We Looked around the city and markets and then took a ferry to the other side of the water at sunset. As the sun went the skyline was really stunning with the bright lights of the skyscrapers (actually massive!!) in front of the dark mountains behind. Shame the Symphony of Light didnt make it even better, but the view stood for itself... ... read more

Call off the search parties we are still alive!! We know its been ages since we last wrote a blog so apologies if you have been eagerly awaiting an update. The problem is we have been in Bali for a few weeks doing absolutely nothing!! Well continuing from our last blog we left Mt Bromo and headed for a small non tourist town called Bangiwangi (great name). It was just an overnight stop before we headed off to catch the ferry to Bali the following day. There's nothing really to tell you about Bangiwangi. We checked into a plain hotel and took a room right next door to a mosque. Naturally we were woken up at 4am by the bellowing prayers. We had dinner in a locals home which consisted of fried noodles proceeded by coffee ... read more

It's not just Bali..... I notice this as soon as I reached Indonesia. People just respond with a smile. I am told that in Bali there is a smile for every emotion. Everyone just smiles - it could be the guard that checks the front seat and boot (this is done religiously now since the bombings) as you enter the carpark or some random person riding by on their bike who happens to catch your eye. And here in smile central, as I sit at the front of this little cafe having dinner I get this beautiful passing parade of men who've just been to the temple because they were wearing flowers in both ears, dots on their foreheads and BIG SMILES all beaming at me! Smiles must carry some kind of happiness charge because I'm ... read more

Even at the end of the rainy season, pouring tropical showers are no exception. We enjoyed a lot of them during our stay at 'Mandala Desa'. The rains came down violently. The deluge didn't last long however and the raindrops felt warm. After the rain it smelled pleasantly petrichor and it was much cooler. We were assigned the villa at the end of the compound with a nice, rice paddy view. Sitting on our porch, we quietly observed the duckherd, watching his free-grazing flock feed in the uncultivated rice paddy. The herder guided his badelynge by signaling, using a long stick with flags at the top. During the showers he found shelter in a small bale in the middle of the fields. The ducks flapped, clattered and quacked and nervously ran from left to right. Most ... read more

Hey all, Wow not even sure where to start this one as I feel like i've done so much! Okay so here is my rota for the week! Monday 9am-11am I work with the disabled adults at Saneng Hati! They are amazing, there positive attitude and smiley faces literally makes me so so happy! I mainly just hang out with them, chat, make jokes; me speaking to them in english is their favourite thing to do as they are deperate to learn more english! Monday 2-4pm I teach the crazy crazy crazy group A (6-8year olds)! Oh my god they are a handful but hillarious! We are learning the lyrics still to high school musical and they are just so funny! Then we do letter promounciation which is a very big challenge especially when they take ... read more

Once again I find myself plotting ways through which I can organise to live in Bali full-time. I love it here! A marriage of convenience to a local lesbian is currently high on the list of possibilities… Fam and I returned a couple of days ago after a planned expedition to the wilder islands East of Bali turned into a battle with gastro and an extended sunbathing session on a perfect island. Gili Trawangan is heaven if you’ve been slogging around in the filthier parts of Indo for a few months; a cinema, white beaches, waters teeming with sea life, some cool bars and plenty of good food provide the distractions. I guess it’s like Kuta, minus the bogan Australian element, schnick-schnack sellers and penis bottle-openers. And it’s popular with Scandinavian “backpackers”, most of whom actively ... read more

Okay...wowie another chapter has certainly started! So I got to Bali aiport after way to many tears over a certain some-one, to find a text asking if I wanted a suprise...to my suprise two days later Jack appears!! It was amazing! We spent the week together chilling, seeing Ubud and eating lots including one night at a health concious vegetarian restuarnt which to Jacks horror served no beer or MEAT!!! haha! Very funny if you ask me! Last night we said our goodbyes the good old fashion way, we cried! Actually we were pretty controlled this time! I am now at the Orphanage in Bedulu and went to a party today at Sanang Hati Handicapped center! It was a leaving do for one of the volunteers and it was fantastic! The adults put on a show ... read more

You guessed it, I've made my way to Southeast Asia! For over two years I've been dreaming of traveling this part of the world, and now I'm here!! Sometimes it's even hard for me to believe. About two weeks ago I booked my flight from Sydney to Bali, a small island in Indonesia. Leaving Australia, I didn't really plan what I was going to do with my 5 days in Bali. I knew that I wanted some good beach time as well as experiencing some Balinese culture. I didn't even know where I was going to stay my first night, but I wasn't worried because I had heard that you often just walk up to your chosen hotel/homestay and bargain a good price. Which is a whole other basket of problems because I am pretty bad ... read more
