So Darcie was asking about the women here. For the most part I get a very warm response from them which is met with much curiousity. They are really really cute. I suppose they are as much curious to know about my life, my values, my ideas, as I am theres. I find the girls that look at me and laugh or start giggling....immature it's really silly and I know it's because I just look so different to them in every way. I dress different, look different, speak different and probably am the tallest women they've ever seen. What's that word they called in highschool Yani.....Amazon?? ha! The women are are very kind when I approach them...90% of the time. I think they shy away from foriegn women? Most of the women I've come across usually ... read more

Oh wow everyone!!!! Today I arrived to Rishikesh! It's breathtaking! I thought that Hardiwar was great but this place is sweeeeetttt! I think I'm right at the base of the Himalayas!! My place is a little ways from the town up in the hills and it's surrounded by little bungalos that you really have to try and find....but once you find it it's totally worth it! The town looks like its in a valley between mountains. The ganges comes down from the Himalayas here and then continues down to Hardiwar. When I got here today I thru my bag down and set off...I couldn't believe how gorgeous it was outside. There is such a drastic difference in the geography in India. I just spent two months in the desert and now I'm surrounded by plants, mountains, ... read more

Last entry we were heading up to the gateway of the himalayas to do yoga and meditation (and get in touch with our spiritual side......) at a place called rishikesh, 7hours north of delhi. The ashram we were staying in was a little on the mediocre side of things as we shivered our way through 4 blankets on the first night due to an undiagnosed rising damp in the corner of our room. The meals were also very interesting, being served on boarding school/prison trays serving same-same but different thalis every morning.noon and night. The yoga was great though, 7am starts as we all assembled into the main yoga hall for asana yoga. Clare and i (you wouldnt believe i am an ex-gymnast) struggled our way through the moves as our brick-like hamstrings prevented us from ... read more

Slowly, slowly the members of our Rishikesh "havura" started leaving, till yesterday the last two (aside from a guy called Gil and myself) left as well. At first I couldn't decide whether to stay or leave (listening to music didn't help much- first I heard "al telchi mikan" and then "halomot aherim"), but then, as usually happens, the answer just found me. It definitely wasn't what I was expecting, but I decided to stay here and give yoga another chance, and then go to Vipassana. This is going to be the third thing I said I'd never do and already did on this trip... (but that's the whole point, isn't it?) but I just know it's what I'm supposed to do now. So here I am, still in Rishikesh. People have been asking me to write ... read more

At first i wasnt sure about this place, crazy, polluted, noisy sensory overload India. Now though my heart and soul are starting to become very attached the experience of this place. Every nuance is starting to breath through me. Its like i have finally worn myself in and India now fits. I would not trade anything in the world for being here right now.!!! The sound the Atari ( a loud speaker system that plays for one hour every morning and night of Indian music, drumming and chanting ) which still gets on my nerves once in awhile, the praying, horns blaring and my beloved bicycle bell are becoming part of the sounds that make India so beautiful . Even the yes mis, please ma'm, and other phrases of the Indian sales person ( which ranges ... read more

I had the most classic bus journey here - i loved it! The bus was jam packed full when it stopped at Dehra. (I say stopped but it didnt really just slowed slightly down for people to jump on it whilst moving) but people just jump on and hang on outside the bus and on the steps and so me and nats tentatively leapt onto the bus hanging on for dear life and we swung ourselves barely inside. eventually we made it in and paid 20 rupees for the hour and a half long trip. there was a big spare tyre in the middle of the gangway and people just stepped on it and so i placed myself there and braced myself. nats all the while with darting eyes like she couldn't believe it but the ... read more

eeeeek! We really love this place we want to pinch ourselves! Yesterday we finally arrived in Rishikesh, which is a few hours north of Delhi. We saved ourselves the city adventure and took the train straight here. "straight here" wasn't so fast that's forsure. After a freezing cold night on the train, and 10 young loud Indian boys shouting, laughing and smoking in our sleeping faces all night we arrived to the heart beat of yoga. The Ganga here is something beautiful. It's clear blue and there's rapids and it reminds me of the rivers at home in Canada. Almost so much as we want to go for a swim (maybe only Jen...) There's cool pedetrian suspension bridges that seperate us from the rest of the town. This is another holy city, it's allot like Varanassi ... read more

Rishikesh is rad. After breakfast we changed hotels to a more-quiet area of the city. We moved into a place called "The Swiss Cottage" (more like a large motel-6) and spent the day walking thru the city and going for a boat-ride up the Ganges. I have a few minutes before this internet cafe closes so I gonna' try to catch up on some photos.... Also, regarding the last entry "DO TEARS FREEZE?"........Ade didn't complain once the whole journey (on the 14hour bus). I (michael) was a total wreck. She is the toughest girl I have ever met. Most of the 14hours were spent with Ade laughing in my face as I "froze my a** off". HAPPY NEWYEAR!!!! peace, michael ... read more
