Day 7 (Friday 8thDecember) One Hell of a Journey We had quite an early start as check-out at Sakura was 11am. But we managed pack our bags, have breakfast and arranged to leave our bags in a ground-floor room. Staff were very nice and asked if we had enjoyed our stay, which we had. We arranged for a private bus to take us to Gaya Train Station as most of us are suffering from dust related problems. We still had a few hours to spare befor we left so decided to explore some back-streets, which we did, finding a nice chai shop nearby, with open ground opposite on which were many goats & kids. Our kids were interested in those kids, but I stopped them stroking any due to possible tic-related problems… Back on the main ... read more

The alarm call came through at 5am.The plan is to meet our guide for The Taj Mahal around 535am spend 2 hours there, back to hotel for breakfast and off to Gwalior at 11am. The Taj is incredible. ..around 40 to 50000 people visit everyday and we were in the first 50 to go through the strict security entry. A great time of the day to go as cooler and less people. As our guide explained the whole thing is not just about the building but the love story behind it. It was built by a Mughal king for his young wife who died after bearing their 14th child. However the building is incredible ..beautiful translucent but non porous marble it has never been cleaned is full of inlaid precious and semi precious stones. In the ... read more

Starting our journey on the 7th April, 2017 (Friday) evening from Bangalore, we reached Rukhad near Pench, Madhya Pradesh next day night. We stayed two nights at Pench and visited the Pench National Park. In this blog I tried to depict our journey further from Pench to Bandhavgarh and Kanha National Park before finally returning to Bangalore. At the end I also mentioned our learning points from the trip which may be useful to the prospective travelers to this route. 10th April, 2017 Monday – Pench to Bandhavgarh via Jabbalpur Drive to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve via Jabbalpur Contrary to our plan we started late from Pench at around 9 AM. Early start... Breakfast at 6 and on the way to the train station by 7:15. Taking the train to jhansi and then a bus for 5 hours to Kajuraho. Kapil tells us that people will offer to shine our shoes and fix our bags while waiting for the train and they did. Beggers, very disabled, one with elephantiasis, are regulars at this station. Guide said he's been seeing them for 12 years here and they make more than poor farmers do...Still sad to see. Train was decent...We had reserved seats. The trip was slow, even though this was a fast train.. Instead of 2 and a half, the trip took 4 hours. Biggest problem? The bathrooms..One look and I knew I'd be waiting until we got to our next destination! In total we traveled for about ... read more

Montag Ganzer Tag in Tibetan Colony. Riga ... read more

Having finally got the ticket from Mumbai to Satna after a week of trying, it was only a short 20 hour train journey. We got on the train at 9.30pm and we didn't arrive until after 5pm the next day! I won't be rushing to do it again. It wasn't too bad until power ran out on all our devices... We arrived in Satna, which is apparently not a common route for foreign tourists judging from the reaction we got when we walked out of the station. A group of tuk-tuk drivers or just random blokes...I'm not too sure...were stood shouting and asking where we wanted to go, laughing and all yelling various information on where to go etc. No one could speak a word of the Queens and the guide books weren't any help. Some ... read more

Geo: 23.6127, 80.387Our trip round India is characterised by a series of contrasting adventures observing the different way of life both in cities and villages, discovering the culture and history of forts, palaces and temples as well as the fantastic wildlife of the national parks with their supreme predators, tigers and leopards. Every subsequent location presents an exciting new experience, even if getting there has sometimes been a challenge.Travelling with our own car and driver has largely been a breeze, with journeys between cities 4 or 5 hours long, but the journey from Udiapur to Orcha was 11 hours with no cafe stops on the road, because we were off the tourist route. The road in places was being rebuilt, which entailed an uncomfortable, bumpy diversion for many miles, a dirty toilet had to be found ... read more

We'd been told we had a long drive to get from Kanha to Satpura but not quite how long! We left around 8am and bumped around in the big bus for 3.5 hours to get to Jabalpur, the nearest big city where we were met by Deepak from the agency and had some lunch in a South Indian restaurant left over from empire times called the Coffee House. The afternoon was significantly longer and it was about 6.30pm by the time we reached the beautiful Reni Pani Lodge in Satpura National Park. Our itinerary had us set up for a night safari that night but it was already much later than they would normally go out and we were all exhausted and hungry so decided to pass . Even more irritating was the discovery that the ... read more

So we left Bandhavgargh after lunch and headed for Kanha National Park. The journey was the first of many that took longer than we were led to believe and it was dinner time and dark by the time we arrived at the hotel. This one was much bigger than the last one and set out around a lake. We had a cottage in the grounds which was very comfortable. We grabbed a quick dinner and briefly watched some local tribal dancers doing a performance for an Indian party in the hotel before an early night. The game drive started earlier than in Bandhavgarh which turned out to be because the jeeps all line up at one gate and all want to be first so in fact we spent half an hour in the dark waiting for ... read more
