Ahhh.....I finally reached the beach and oh, so nice. On the flight from Delhi to Goa, I met up with some Israelis girls (go figure) who told me I should go to Arambol beach in the north. Since i did not have a plan, i said OK. Funny how life works out because as I stroll onto the beach with my backpack in search of a place to stay, i hear someone yell "Larry". It turns out to be Malte, my German friend I traveled with from Pushkar to Jodhpur! I spent the next few days enjoying the wonderful beach of Arambol with Malte (aka "The Dude") and a group of Israelis (98% of the people there were from Israel). I will let the photos speak for themselves here. I hope everyone at home is doing ... read more

Salut a tous...

Salut a tous.... Ben finalement... Goa !

Having experienced the cities and towns of India we decided to seek out the Costa del Sol of India - Goa. It being monsoon season meant that we wouldn't be able to swim on the sea and enjoy golden sands sipping cocunut drinks at beach shacks, but we were keen to see what Goa was all about so decided to go there anyway. Getting to Goa was a marathon journey. A 15 hour train east from Nagpur to Mumbai was followed by a 14 hour train south from Mumbai to Goa on the Konkan railway. Luckily for us we had a bit of a gap between the two journeys which meant we got to wander round Mumbai for the first time, but more of Mumbai later. Everyone had told us that the Konkan rail journey was ... read more

random thoughts by mbaade. rather melancholy tonight; angsty today. don't really want to leave G to the O to the A.... i like not having any responsibilities or anyone to answer to or anything to do except play on the beach, watch tv, go for long walks, read for pleasure, sleep, eat, play backgammon, and flirt with the mafia. goa has made me fall in love with the monsoon. paradise to ourselves. lush emerald jungle, black & gold sand, red rock. went and said goodbye to the arabian sea tonight. today it didn't rain at all; partly cloudy skies. between the clouds the stars were shining; don't know when i'll see the ocean or the stars that bright again. certainly not in delhi or philly. "star light, star bright, first star i see tonight, i wish ... read more

We found that to enjoy Goa you have to be selective which area you visit. The first resort - Colva - we didn't really like that much. It was a bit like a shit package holiday resort without the facilities. The next resort - Palolem - was lovely. In the guide book it said a true paradise lost, we'd agree. Palm lined beaches, Goan fisherman hauling in nets early in the morning, very idilic. We also met some nice people there (hello nice people), who made the stay even more pleasant. A last comment about Goa - the best food we've had in India. For a start you can eat cows, and boy they did taste good (sorry Hindus). The portions are good. And the best restaurant - Smugglers Inn - some of the food surpasses ... read more

sunday july 31 yes, we are safe. no, there are no floods in goa. yes, it does rain a lot here, but there aren't acres and acres of concrete to trap the water and cause floods like there is in mumbai . everything here just goes straight downhill into the ocean, and there aren't enough people around to spread disease. we love you all and thank you for your concern :) ****** deep thoughts with arielle: molly's durnk!! hehahaoiena! ********* thursday aug 4 well... we booked our train back to delhi. a lovely 40+ hour ride. sleeper class, but not airconditioned. they were all booked until september 29th... which is about 1.5 months too late to be leaving goa. notsomuch looking forward to the train. leaves sunday the 7th at 14:10 and arrives in delhi on ... read more

july 23 friday so the other day we were walking all around vagatore trying to find bicycles for rent and after we'd walked for hours and not found any bikes , this guy in a bright yellow rain slicker pulls up on his moped and asks us if we want to be extras in a bollywood film. of course we say yes and take his name and number. his name is slash. his number didn't work. but lo and behold, he showed up this morning and got us a taxi to the next town over where they're shooting a film. so today we hung out in a club and on a beach and watched a bunch of fruity looking men do a bollywood dance scene in the rain. more updates on our big beach scene later.... ... read more

written by arielle: umn. well, after three days here i think it is safe to say that goa has grown on us. we're surrounded by jungle and ocean. it is beautiful here. AND there are hardly any tourists. it's like we have paradise to ourselves. we've spent the last couple of days playing frisbee on our "secret beach" we also switched hotels. we are now at the bethany inn which is the best hotel we've been in. we each have our own bedroom, a huge t.v. WITH - CHANNELS IN ENGLISH - a refrigerator full of sodas and candy bars including SNICKERS! and a balcony. the only problem is the bathroom as the toilet has poor suction and the shower nob has the unfortunate problem of electrocuting us. however! after several attempts, we managed to remember ... read more
