After leaving New Delhi on a high, we boarded a Spice Jet plane to Goa, on the south west coast. We grabbed a prepaid taxi from the airport, and a short hour later we were dropped in the very touristy town of Candolim. We had already noticed a change in the feel of the place on our car journey from the airport, but when we looked at our accommodation, it warmed our hearts. The rest of us was pretty warm too. The heat, even at 5pm, was a sticky 32 degrees. Our accommodation was an ensuite room with fridge and balcony, overlooking a garden of palm trees. It was an oasis of calm. We settled our things and then went off to discover the town. We had read online that Candolim has a large supermarket. Given ... read more

Incidentally, Goa-way & Czec-it-out is possibly the best name for a Eastern European-ran travel agency in the history of the world. Genius. I was supposed to stay in Goa for three weeks with my mum, but aren't actually leaving until tomorrow, precisely double the amount of time I planned. I'm not sure why because a week is enough to know Goa inside out, but I would guess it's a combination of hangovers and laziness that's kept me here so long. I flew into Cochin, in Kerala from Kuala Lumpur, which is chilled and dirty and has a lot of churches and goats and cows and nice people. I met a girl who'd being teaching in North India for three months, and hated me on sight because I was wearing a mini-skirt (everything else was dirty) and ... read more

Incredible, I was in Goa for more than 50 days and it seemed like a long time and now it is over! Today is my last day, I am super excited to leave even if I will miss Goa and the people I know here. I will come back anyway in a month to pick up a huge load of things that I don't need to carry with me on my way south. My last weeks in Goa were not super busy with exploring, although I did go to a spice farm close to Ponda. The experience was OK, but the farm I went to was very much a tourist attraction, they seem to be doing the same thing over and over again so it didn't have the authentic feeling that you find is smaller family-run ... read more

Got some brilliant news a few days ago that my brother Jamey had got some work making inflatables for a festival in Goa, about 5 beachs down from where we are! The festival was called sunburn, the biggest dance festival in Asai and both me and russ had seen big advertising boards with it on everywhere, so when jamey said we could both get 2 v.i.p tickets we were super excited! So we packed up and said goodbye to our beloved Arambol and headed off on the bike. Had one last day in the animal hospital ( waaaaaaaiiill!!!) and said goodbye to my little friends dribbles and ears! It was pretty wobbely with all our bags bungy tied to the sides!but it was and nice easy journey down. Found jamey half asleep in Candolim ( middle ... read more

I said already that yoga students here have a lot in common... Well, I just found out this Monday morning that we all shared something else too... The bad food from the German Bakery! Actually I only found out on Tuesday morning after some friends worried about me after I didn't show up for yoga practice for 2 days... They came to see me and this is when I heard that 10 other yogis had been sick and we then found the common denominator which was the restaurant were we all ate the morning before some strange melodies started coming from our guts... So that morning, as we were again eating breakfast in a (hopefully) safer restaurant, we all shared our experience of the previous day and night... It was hilarious. Some had it worse than ... read more

Another week went by in Goa. It's funny how we do nothing and yet it seems like the days are just passing by... Must be because I am having fun. I really am. This year is very different because I stay close to the beach and the yoga shala, so there are also many other yogis in the area and it is a lot of fun to be part of a small community of people with similar focus, interests, etc. The days start with the yoga practice, then a big breakfast, and after that I either stay home, read and relax or I go to the beach, and almost every time, there is other yoga people there and we chat for a while, have a chai at our favorite beach shacks, or we sometimes all go ... read more

Here I am again! Back in Goa! This place is addictive, and for a reason! Nice beach, great climate, nice places to stay, good restaurants, colorful markets, friendly people.... So after 2 nights sleeping in the train from Gujarat to Mumbai and then Mumbai to Goa, I came to Candolim, where I did yoga last year. It was great to drive back to a familiar area and recognize places and people. On my way to Candolim from the train station, my taxi driver said "shirt, shirt"... I said "no, I don't need a shirt". I thought he wanted to take me to a shirt shop somewhere where he would get commission and I really just wanted to find a place to stay and have a shower... But no, he meant he had to stop at his ... read more

My love for Goa was not instant. I first visited the place back in Nov 2004 for my honeymoon. The packaged deal landed me at Calangute Beach with no information. It was over crowed and the fact that I had a motor bike accident on the second day did not help. I did spoil the honey part of the honeymoon. Decided to visit Goa with family that include a wife and three + years old son on April 10, 09. I had not planned for it in advance but thought of making a very good use of Good Friday. Did not have a reservation in hotel but Got a bargain in a Villa in Candolim for Rs 650/Night. We took a Non AC bus ( as all AC coaches were full) for the price of an ... read more
