We have just had two days at Hong Kong Disneyland. One of the most magical places on earth for kids and adults alike. It us a bit to get there, having to travel from Copenhagen to Helsinki, wait for twelve hours and then take a nine hour flight to Hong Kong crossing several time zones. A big CF of 10 to the kids for managing to stay away for the best part of 24 hours without spitting the dummy. So all up we left at 9.00am on September 2nd and landed in Hong Kong at 3.00pm on September 3rd. There was also a significant change in the temperature. When we left Helsinki it was only 12 degrees Celsius (max) and Hong Kong was 30 degrees Celsius and raining. No need for jeans or jumpers for the ... read more

Today was absolutely amazing!! We went on a tour of Lantau Island, Hong Kong's biggest island. To get to there, we took a long cable bridge. The architects that created the bridge said there is enough steel in the bridge to wrap around the world 5 times!!!!! I thought that was so incredible. On the way to our first stop the tour bus stopped at a small beautiful beach. We all got out and took lots of pictures. We were only there for about 15 min because we had to keep moving to get to our first stop of the day, Tai O Village. Tai O Village is a small quaint fishing village on Lantau Island. The city depends on fishing, and in the street markets, you can find all kinds of sea creatures, alive and ... read more

We ventured into Hong Kong from Shenzhen by train today. Our gracious hosts lead us through the busy train stations and showed us through immigration. By the end of this trip I am going to have no pages left for stamps in my passport - we get 4 stamps everytime we leave and enter Hong Kong and China! We boarded a ferry in Hong Kong out to Hong Kong Island and then another out to Lantau Island. Here the big attraction is the giant buddha. It is the largest bronze sitting buddha. However, it was very foggy when we got there and we couldn't see him very well. After taking some pictures and having a HUGE vegetarian meal at this buddhist place, we climbed the stairs up to the buddha to see if we could get ... read more

Hi everybody Basically, next year (2011) around August time i am looking to start travelling around the world on a working holiday (as then you can prolong the travelling this way) I have a keen interest in food and drink and this will be the basis of my travels! I am currently a 24yr old dude from Leeds in England, where i am also in the process of studying for my degree in hospitality business management. You see the fortunate thing about my life at the minute is that i have been independant since the age of 15 and through my life till this moment,(where i am currently working in Hong Kong as part of an internship) i have found myself with just a suitcase, my mobile and my laptop, i have no ties whatsoever as ... read more

Ok, maybe it didn't exactly explode but it sure felt like it was imminent. But let me back up a bit! Our last little excursion out of China found us in Hong Kong and Macau for a week, three nights in each location. We decided to stay in a couple of hotels this time around which I booked online with no problem along with the flights. You never know how its gonna turn out when you blindly make reservations for places you know nothing about but with the variety of travel sites nowadays and the online testimonials, you can get a pretty good idea of what different hotels and/or hostels are like. We arrived in Hong Kong last Sunday night on a sunny, fairly nice day, compared to our last trip there when it rained almost ... read more

In de middag ... read more

We met Pearl for dim sum at 10:00 AM in front of our hotel and walked around the corner to a dim sum restaurant on the 6th floor of a building that I don't think I would recognize again. We ordered lots of different things - egg tarts (very traditional in HK), steamed custard buns (yummy and filled with sweet egg custard), beef balls, beef spring rolls, veggie dumplings and seafood dumplings and other stuff I can't remember the name of. I have to be honest. After the egg tarts and steamed buns, dim sum went seriously downhill. I liked some of the other things, especially the dumplings, but some of the things we ordered Enis and I were not too keen on, but we ate them because of Pearl. We didn't want to disappoint her ... read more

On Friday afternoon we ventured to Hong Kong for a weekend of sightseeing. It is such an amazing place and there are so many things to see and do that we have barely touched the surface of what HK has to offer. Friday We got to our hostel, Inntide Guesthouse, in Causeway Bay around 4:30pm. Once we got checked in we headed to the Peak Tram. The ride up the tram is almost at a 45 degree angle and was built in the 1800s, quite amazing. Once to the top the view is spectacular as it was a pretty clear day. We took lots of photos then headed back down the hill on the tram to meet up with 4 of our friends. We met Kris and Kelly at 7:30 in Kowloon then ate dinner at ... read more

After a great first day in Hong Kong, we arose early to go on our 7-hour Lantau Island Monastery tour. After departing the pier for the drive to Lantau Island, Hong Kong’s largest outlying island, we took the Tai Lam Tunnel to the Ting Kau Bridge and made a stop at the Tsing Yi Island viewing platform. There were outstanding views and photo opportunities of the island and the Tsing Ma Bridge, the world’s longest road and rail suspension bridge. It is over a mile long and links the new airport on Lantau Island to the Kowloon Peninsula. From there we also see the Ting Kau Bridge, which connects Kowloon and Hong Kong Island to Tsing Yi Island. These are both amazing structures. The suspension cable of the Tsing Ma Bridge was erected by the method ... read more
