Code Name: Mission CHAV It was a cold, wet, miserable Friday. Just like any other Friday. I phoned my special woman, 'sweet cheeks', to do a little job for me in the big city. She's a pretty face, cute ass, and a good little worker. The job was at a joint down town, they call it Burberry. A classy little joint with some damn good neck wear. The mission was to get past security and to 'touch the sheep', as they say. It was gonna be a tough one but I knew 'sweet cheeks' had it in her. At precisely 1300 hours I made the call and as arranged 'sweet cheeks' was there right on cue. It was the usual affair, you know the type - this message will self destruct yadda yadda yadda.... Then 'sweet ... read more

I forgot my camera cord so any and all pictures up until Marty gets here with my camera cord are from my brother's digital camera. He bought this digital camera from his friend for ten bucks so it's a little weird. A lof of the pictures come out blurry, random focus issues. o_O It's also hard to take a lot of pictures when your brother doesn't want to take pictures or get his picture taken unless he's in the mood. Dude, Hong Kong is so tiring. I guess that's alright though because walking equals exercise. Yesterday we spent the day with the aforementioned family members Uncle Wing, his wife, May, and their daughter, 11 year old Tracy. They took us to the Hong Kong Museum of Science which was pretty neat. It was like any other ... read more

I am recovering from an allergy attack which was caused by eating a mango. I tell this story with chagrin, as I should have learned my lesson the last time I ate a mango and had an allergic reaction - albeit less severe than the current one. I had hoped that the previous time I had merely ate the wrong type of mango. I now know differently. So, one of my great pleasures in Hong Kong where I eat very little chocolate, my other great pleasure, is to eat mangos. But, I’ll have to forego this hedonistic tendency for now. The rash which had covered my face, neck, and upper chest is, thankfully, receding now. But, Tuesday was miserable, and I spend the majority of yesterday in bed, due to the drowsiness side effect of ... read more

Laura - Not an incredibly eventful day. We got the Star Ferry again to HongKong Island and went to find the world's longest escalator. It's really very lame and not very impressive - more practical for locals than it is spectacular for visitors. It's apparently over 800m long but this a lie because it is broken up into about 12 seperate escalators. Pretty dull really. Still it got us half way up a big hill without having to break out into a sweat! We found a more amusing escalator later in a shopping mall that was no more than 1 metre high. So unneccesary! After the excitement of the escalator we walked to a 'zoological and botanical park' (?!) which had lots of trees and lots of monkeys. Plus a rather crappy 'reptile house' which had ... read more

29th May As you probably noticed at the top, yes we are in Hong Kong. But had such a good last day in Yanghsuo thought we'd write that bit first. So here goes... Paul - Forgot to say yesterday that we organised to meet up with a Canadian girl called Alex to go to Moon Hill and the Water Caves. I hope she doesn't mind me calling her "girl"... oh well! So anyway had to get up at the ridiculous hour of 9am to meet Alex downstairs in reception. As the Chinese girls in the hostel seem to like me, we managed to get our tickets for the Water Caves for 60 yuan instead of 80 yuan. So a nice little save there. It all counts! Decided we would get the bus as it looked like ... read more

I am very hot at the moment because the computer of my guest house is sitting atop a clothes dryer in the laundry that has been chugging away then entire time I have been sitting here. Apart from that the whole place is kind of hot. But I love the heat so I think its great! I got in at 6am and after 50m walk from baggage collection got on the express train in to Kowloon (just north of Hong Kong CBD). It was all a bit easy, there were people to show me how to use the ticket machine, and people to point at the train and tell me that was the train I wanted to get on, and even a free shuttle bus from the station to my guest house. From what I can ... read more

Asking for directions can work as a pick-up line.... I mean literally....You need to get somewhere, but you don't know how.... So you ask for directions. Instead of the usual response, you get chatting and then you get picked up in a car and taken to your destination. In other words, asking for directions can score you a lift! Brilliant, isn't it! I got dropped off in the city by three friendly Kiwi guys, whom I'd met at the airport in Hong Kong. After saying goodbye and getting invited out for drinks with them later on, I headed out in search for a place to stay. I was walking down the street slowly, loaded up with my backpacks (2 of). Noticeable from afar, my pack had reached 'over-sized' proportions at this point in my trip. I ... read more

A warm greeting and a chagrin-filled acknowledgement that it has been many weeks since I last posted on this blog. The only excuse that I can offer is that I have been busy researching and living in this beautiful city, Hong Kong. Before I update you on what has been going on in my life lately, I’d like to share my thoughts about several situations that I’ve encountered related to my disability recently. Three people have asked if they could pray for my healing. One stranger handed me money in the subway station. And, of course, the ubiquitous people who go out of their way to help me have persisted nonstop. As an advocate, I continue to be annoyed by these actions - well-intentioned though they may be. As a woman I struggle against the tendency ... read more

Hi - this is the new improved updated version of this blog, all about the last three (or is it four?) days we've spent in Hong Kong. God knows we love this city. We should have came here months ago. It's an absolutely amazing place; vibrant, jumpin, hectic, bright, incredibly busy, hot, humid, sweaty, westernised, beautiful, friendly, funky, in your face, and so so so SO much more than all these things - but if we keep writing like this then it'll be a pretty boring blog. In our last installment we told you about arriving here late on the Friday night of last week. Before we go any further, we have to tell you what we saw immediately upon disembarking from the plane. So I'm in Hong Kong now, this is a great and extremely large city with lots of businesses but thats really about it. Been here for just under a week now and I feel I have done all there is to be done. Been to main Hong Kong island and been up Victoria's peak, some pretty impressive views from that height. Been to Wang Chai to the markets and all that stuff. Been to Jackie Chan's gym. Done the whole harbour cruise thing witrh the light and sound show, pretty awesome and seen most of Kowloons shops. It's a great place but I became bored and so ventured into New Territories and paid 420HKD to get across the border into China. However I stayed in a remote village in south China where the culture was amazing. ... read more
