Day 29 - Happy to leave Guilin, we hit the road for the marathon 820km leg to Nanchang. Someway into our journey I was saddened to have seen a sign to Shanghai, the first in over three weeks. The landscape is also gradually becoming more familiar now and I am cherishing every single kilometer clocked as I know the dream is ending soon. On route we are hopelessly looking for signs to tempt us into a detour, anything to break the finality of the schedule. A sign for a hot spring has us pouring over maps to see if we can accommodate the detour and still make it back to Shanghai in time. Alas, no choice but to stick to the schedule and head for Nanchang. After 9 hours on the road we finally hit Nanchang, ... read more

Today was a stroll down memory lane. We went to the Pedestrian mall and into a market. There was so much to see. The girls bought candy floss and enjoyed seeing the many animals that were for sale, baby ducks, quails etc. The food was also very interesting. Everything from congee to hot dogs on a stick, from waffles to sweet tofu. There were people everywhere! We then headed to Jingfen Hotel where we stayed when we first met Parker. We dined at the wooden restaurant where we ate many meals during our first visit. It was then off to the Buddhist temple, a bit disappointing because we could not go up to the top but a nice visit nonetheless. We then finished our day out at the supermarket that we shopped at during our first ... read more

Qing ling is doing very good . We found out she loves chocolate when I introduced her to m&ms. There is a McDonald in China . So one time I ate there. I found out fortune cookies aren't Chinese . There are actually American. There just selling them off as Chinese. It's very foggy here except it says its going to be sunny today. (-: We saw a pagoda and Buddhist Temple. You probably need to look up Buddhist Temple and a pagoda is a palace. I wish I can see my friends and family right now. I wish I could buy my friends and family a souvenir but we haven't been to any places to get souvenirs. This is are last day in Nanchang. Tomorrow were going to Guangzhou to get Sha Sha. Yesterday was a busy day. We went downtown Nanchang to Porcelain Street. That's it's nick name, I couldn't read what the street was really named. One of the other things the Jiangxi Province is famous for is their porcelain. The province is the "Porcelain Capital" because it has been producing quality pottery for 1700 years and has became known internationally for being " (1)as thin as paper, (2) as white as jade, (3) as bright as a mirror, and (4) as sound as a bell". All I can say was there was store after store selling everything from little tiny pieces to vases that stood 6 -7 feet tall. Believe or not those weren't very expensive but shipping would cost a fortune. No way you're going check or carry one of those on the plane. A ... read more

Yesterday was another day to get out and “enjoy” the weather here and see some sites. We decided it wasn't cold enough outside so we visited a temple that didn't have heat, doors wide open on each end so you got the draft action going and the ceilings were so high what little heat there was from people and candles was up the the 20+ foot ceilings. However, interesting place especially when you here the legend about the place. What there is left of the building/courtyards is about 1300 years old. Before the city moved in on it, (it's now surrounded by what looked to be apartments, mostly) it was so far from the main building where the monks lived that they had to ride a horse to the gates when it was time to lock ... read more

We didn't have anything official to do today so Evelyn took us on a tour of the Tengwang Pavilion. It was right here in town so we were there in no time. This place was first built back in 653 AD but it's been rebuilt 29 times, most of the times because of fire. It was an interesting place, they put on a short musical-signing thing that's included with admission. The view from the top balcony was pretty awesome but we didn't hang out there long, not with the temperature today, that along with a strong wind and rain hitting you in the face. I could have swore it was snow coming down but it's to warm today for it to be snow. Also, 3rd day of thick fog. Evelyn swears the sun does come out ... read more

Yesterday was kind of a slow day but it was supposed to be mostly a rest day. We waited around for the Doctor to come by and give Qing Ling a basic health check. Imagine that, a Doctor that makes house calls, to a hotel even, and from I understand he's also the head of his practice/group so besides having all the other things to do he's stuck with all the administrative stuff. You wouldn't have know it, took his time, talked about her health, very friendly bedside manners. He said she looks to be health kid, although she could stand to loose some weight because she has a bit of a tummy. After the Doctor left we went out for a walk. There is a small park near here, which only requires you crossing one ... read more

Today is/was the day we went to the Registration office to complete (I use that term loosely since ever time I think we're done with paperwork along comes something else) Qing Ling's adoption. We now have the official document that says she's our daughter! We had to have a picture taken with the 3 of us for this document. Jasmine wasn't really happen that she couldn't be in the picture but I tried to explain about how she had already done this and told her I would show her the document when we get back home. This sure went a lot faster then it did when we came for Jasmine but there wasn't anywhere as many people there this time. Another plus, it wasn't hot this time, in fact first time no AC and it was ... read more
