Monday was super cool. We all traveled to a cluster of small villages about an hour away from Nanchang that are all historically preserved. We spent quite a few hours there just walking from site to site exploring shops and viewing artifacts that were either uncovered or passed down through the generations. There was so much to see. There were people who had lived there all their lives and others, like us, who came in from the city to explore the cultural sites. There were people selling local produce, knicknacks, and resteraunts with local food. I bought myself some eggs which had been laid that day and then cooked for 3 hours. They were so hot I had to wait for almost 1/2 an hour to be able to handle it. There was a main path ... read more

So Tuesday was completely chill. We thought we were going to go traveling, but we ended up just hanging out most of the morning and then going to the local market together. The market was a lot of fun though completely chaotic. There was people everywhere, smells that made me cringe, and so much of everything that it blew my mind. I was grateful to get to go though. I got a watch that'd been hoping to find since there's no clocks almost anywhere I go and the girls all had fun looking and bargaining for the things they found like shoes and some other things like a bookbag and jewelry. I hope I get to go back sometime, though I doubt I'd ever go alone. Today has also been relaxing. I actually got to talk ... read more

So. I've got a week of vacation. What am I doing with it? Not a whole lot really. I'm not too worried about traveling at this point so chilling and shopping sits well with me right now. This weekend was pretty chill. I had the whole teaching on Saturday thing which was fine. My first class turned out ok though they were sad to be there and my second class was actually ahead of my first class so we just played games since I didn't want them to get further ahead of the first class. After that I just relaxed and packed for my week with the Cherians since I didn't have anything else planned for the day. On Sunday I packed the rest of the way and made my way towards Camilla and Pravine's. I ... read more

Hi all! I know I have to work tommorow, but Fridays are the bomb. : ) I only have to teach one class, which equals almost 2 hours, but it's still nice to have a light load at the end of the week. I also now have groupies. ^_^ If you ever want to feel like a movie star just teach English over here in China. I have students of all kinds coming up to me and taking photos of me and with me wherever I go on campus. It's rather funny, but they have a blast coming up to me and even saying "Hi, how are you?" But two girls especially who have been trying to learn English have been visiting with me often so that we can have conversations. They're both very friendly and ... read more

So I'm actually writing this in the morning. Why? Because I got a text from Rita telling me to check my e-mail. What does my e-mail say? "Hey, I know holiday starts this weekend, but since we screwed up the schedule again you should make up yesterday's class on Saturday even though on Monday when we screwed up that schedule by not telling you the change we said to never mind because it's too much work for the students. Oh and we want to track your wherabouts during the holiday so where are you going? Thanks!" So I'm really trying to be flexible but it was pretty hard to not to be upset. It's not like I have big plans or anything Saturday, but I just wish my school could just make the schedule and stick ... read more

So yeah. Nothing spectacular happened. I went to class, met with Anna, met with a student and had a meeting with a friend for a while. It almost feels weird to not have something crash into me and intrude on my day. Right now I'm looking forward to next week. The school's off on holiday for National Day and Cam and Pravine said I could stay over during that time. Thank goodness because I can already predict I would have been inside my apartment the whole time just eating PB&J sandwiches and sitting on my bed watching movies. So good things to come but I'm enjoying my day to day life in the here and now too. : )... read more

So... I think I can officially say my school is a bit unorganized. Today I went to my classroom... no students there. So I go to the other classroom where I also teach at thinking they might be there (happened last week Wed. and the whole class was gone except one student who called at least some of them back)... no students except one who was sleeping on the desks. Another student from class B, the class I should be teaching walks up. After some bad English he wakes up sleeping student who comes out and they try to explain to me that the schedule has changed. Without me knowing. Crap.... Anyway I go find Rita because my phone hasn't been working all day and she's not in her office. Again. But it is open and ... read more

Hi everyone! I know it's been over a week since I've left and there's been no real updates. I'd like to blame a couple things (besides my laziness) on that. First off I did have a computer, but I wasn't able to use it without a multiple cord outlet because the outlets here on the wall only allow for one appliance. Second, my computer mostly uses Chinese characters. There are some sights it lets me use the English part of the keyboard, but sometimes I'll try to write something and I'll be "what does that say?" Finally, my internet freezes up. I actually tried updating my blog on Wed. but it froze and everything I had written went kaput. So anyway, I do appologize. I probably could have updated sooner if I had put my mind ... read more

Okay we step back a bit. This would have been a week ago this past Sunday. First we have this unplanned meet with Larry - Larry is the billionaire that owns NIT. Martin wanted to go take pictures at the administration building after the closing ceremony. Low and behold down the stairs comes Larry. Andrea mentioned how hot it was and the next thing we know Larry is going to send us to Lushan to Lu Mountains in his private car for an overnight get away with Martin as our guide. He said so we could see the beauty and enjoy cooler temperatures after our hard two weeks of teaching in the heat! We had know idea the adventures that were to follow! Check out the pictures - I will add descriptions later. By the way ... read more

English Summer Camp came to a close on Sunday the 22nd. We had planned out a big closing and the director's of NIT also had plans, so we had to meld the two together and pray we could keep it short given the heat! We had practice in the morning and then the actual ceremony was in the afternoon. NIT was to provide lunch in the cafeteria for the students and families, so it was to be a busy day. Rehearsal in the morning was interesting to say the least. We had the program starting out with the elementary students doing a revised version of Snow White. Throughout the whole program were speech on various topics the older college age students had covered in my class. We also had our middle group singing and one student ... read more
