The years 2010/2011 have been my 5th year at Taizhou Teachers College in Jiangsu, China: It is the right and special time to thank my loving and supportive family; all of my many eager and sweet students and colleagues (former and present); the wonderful and dedicated teachers and staff and the kind and caring administration of TTC; and my many dear friends around China, in America, in Canada, in Australia, in New Zealand, in Germany and in so many other countries, for YOUR continued encouragement and for YOUR love, and for having shared YOUR hearts during another exciting year in China. ***Dear Friends: PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF MY "NEW" E-MAIL: HSchneider101@gmail.com (The reasons are noted below) The Financial Crisis and the difficult and tense economic conditions in Western Countries, especially in America, seems to be putting the jobs of many teachers in jeopardy. Educated and experienced and reluctantly, some instructors will retire early, recent graduates will look for positions in vain, others may feel personal frustration with their insecure employment conditions, while many more may have already been layed off. If you find yourself among these groups of anxious individuals, may I suggest the opportunities available as a teacher at my college in China, "TAIZHOU TEACHERS COLLEGE", in the East-coast Province of Jiangsu. TAIZHOU TEACHERS COLLEGE invites qualified college graduates to apply for the positions available as English teachers or German teache... read more

Thank you for your many letters and wishes of safety, after another earthquake has destroyed the lifes of so many Chinese in the Western Province of Qinghai, in the mountain county of Yushu. It is near the border of Tibet and Sichuan, but far away from my home in Taizhou, Jiangsu, in the East of China. The suffering of these wonderful and humble people can only be imagined. I cry when I see the suffering on CCTV, and one feels so helpless. I have noticed tears in the eyes of some of my students, who suffer with their fellow citizens in silence, when we speak about it in class. But, Yes! We are all ok and safe, and thank you for caring. Please continue to share your prayers and thoughts with those, who are in such ... read more

The Spring 2009 Qintong Dragon Boat Festival Extravaganza attracts visitors from near and far, and they witness one of the great colorful out-door spectaculars in the Province of Jiangsu, only an hour from my home in Taizhou. This Dragon Boat Festival has become one of those special cultural highlights, most unique to China, a presentation I wish never to miss. I truly appreciate the efforts my friends at Taizhou Teachers College, Arthur and Susie, have made for me again this year, as they surprised me with a VIP ticket, and these passes are very difficult to obtain. Everyone who is anyone in Taizhou will pull every string to become part of this colorful festival. Mike in the Foreign Affairs Office of Taizhou has also been wonderful in remembering my interests in the cultural events offered in ... read more

I am sad to report, that the TravelBlog site has had another problem, and many of my photos from TravelBlog #113 have been wiped out and lost. It is a frustrating experience to have spent hours upon hours to prepare an entry, only to see the efforts disappear. I am sorry that you were not able to see many of the "Taizhou Spring 2009" photos posted with my last entry, and so I will attempt to upload some of them again, but without the comments. It just takes too long to do it all again, and has strained some of the enthusiasm. The photos will speak for themselves. They offer some of the color I have experienced these past weeks, and I am happy that you permit me to share them with you. I hope they ... read more

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE CIRCUMSTANCES, BUT THE TRAVELBLOG SITE MANAGER HAS NOTIFIED ITS CONTRIBUTORS, THAT MOST OF THE PHOTOS THAT HAVE BEEN POSTED ON THIS AND ON OTHER ENTRIES DURING A SPECIFIC TIME-PERIOD HAVE BEEN LOST. I AM SO SORRY. I HAVE TRIED TO POST MOST OF THE LOST PHOTOS AGAIN ON THE NEXT TRAVELBLOG #114. AFTER READING THIS ENTRY, PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT TRAVELBLOG #114. ********************************************** It seems as if the world has changed since my last TravelBlog entry, and I am still catching my breath. There is my joy of the inauguration of President Obama and the changes it will bring, and the agony of the near collapse of capitalism as we have enjoyed it and its consequences. Maybe this entry will bring you a little diversion from both. So let me begin ... read more

In China, the preparations for the Spring Festival (2009), in anticipation for the "Year of the Ox", are nearly completed. This year it falls on January 25th. Our excited students, teachers and staff from Taizhou Teachers College are heading home, to spend this "most important festival" in China with their families and their friends. Another group, an army of migrant workers, are also returning to distant provinces, expecting to be with their loved-ones. They may have not seen their families for a long time. It is now a time, when all of China seems to be on the move!! Public Transportation during China's Spring Festival is strained beyond capacity, as during no other time of the year: BUS-tickets can only be purchased 6 days before departure in China, and the lines at the bus-stations stretch beyond ... read more
