Race is over for us. Although we were faster by over a minute from last years time, and we were with-in 35 seconds of the first place team this year, we were only in one preliminary race.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also called Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar. It is one of the most important Chinese festivals. Post race day team photo. Although again we lost our first heat, we were able to get our time down to 2:53, which is 16 sec. faster then last years time.

One of many flower patches in Haizhuhu Park. To get to park, take metro line 3 to the Datang station. The park entrance is only a few minutes walk from the exit.

2010 Asian Games Complex: Today a few of us bicycled to the location where the 2010 Asian Games were held at. This was a multi-sport event celebrated in Guangzhou, China from November 12 to 27, 2010. A total of 9,704 athletes from 45 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in 476 events from 42 sports and disciplines (28 Olympic sports and 14 non-Olympic sports), making it the largest event in the history of the Games. The park is still in use for a variety of competitions, practice venues and sports recreation.

2010 Asian Games Complex: One can also get to the sports complex by taking metro line 4 all the way to the end and getting off a the metro station Huangcun.

Giant bicycle storage area on the university island. It looked like at least 3-4 foot ball area in size. Thousands of bicycles, and all my favorite color of orange.

Along both banks of the Pearl River, high-rise buildings such as star-grade hotels and modern shopping malls stand in great numbers. Passing through such a prosperous city, the Pearl River, unlike other rivers displaying only natural beauty, boasts the type of scenery that only belongs to a modern urban area.

When night falls, it immediately starts to look more interesting. The bridges are decorated by colorful neon lights. The water in the river reflects the lights in shimmering patterns.

During the day, people can walk the 'Scenery Corridor' alongside the river. The corridor, about 23 kilometers (14 miles) long, is actually a dike built especially for appreciating the scenery.

Along the walkway there are designated bicycle and walking paths; even so they are use interchangeably. Also along the walkway there are people stretching, exercising, fishing or just enjoying a relaxing day sitting on the many benches.

Where the Pearl River walkway winds under bridges crossing the river, people gather for a variety of activities in the shaded cool areas.

I hope that you are doing very well in Guangzhou and you have fully acclimated. Enjoy yourself there. Extremely hot in Lewis County this summer and very humid. We have had a "drought" and tornado this summer. The corn still grows. Take care. Derek
