Antarctic is done for the time being. Someday I may try to go back to that type of life and travels. But now a new adventure awaits me. It took two years and a forest of paperwork, but now I have a job working as support staff at the American Consulate in Guangzhou, China. All that is needed to finish the new sidewalks are the many curved granite blocks.

This photo shows one of the finished sidewalks, a lot smoother then the old walks. Also the fencing along the side walks is to prevent jaywalkers. It also prevents cars pulling up anywhere to drop off passengers.

Guangzhou's IFC Tower was the first tall skyscraper in Guangzhou in 2010, and now it is the second tallest in the city and the world's 16th tallest building in 2016. It has a translucent dark outer facade, and at night it is beautifully lit. This photo is taken from the Four Seasons Hotel on the 69th floor and looking out the top of the building on the 100th floor.

This giant Peanut statue is at about the half way point between the US Consulate and the Canton Residence. It is where our bicycle group meets at times before going for a ride.

Gardners are always planting and replanting all over Guangzhou through out the year. Flowering plants are always being replaced for what is in season.

There are many different stalls selling vegetables, but i always went back to the same one.

This lady does all the sewing for me. She will not just fix anything you show up with. You have to be introduced by a current customer for her to accept you as a customer.

My apartment is the 3rd balcony up, which was on the 5th floor.

The Canton Residence apartments are situated in a circle with a open area in the middle that has fountains and events such as art shows, concerts, and wine tasting etc. several times a month. Around the circle on the street level are a variety of restaurants.

ON the second level are nice walkways and gardens. Its a great place to relax and go for a short evening walk.

I hope that you are doing very well in Guangzhou and you have fully acclimated. Enjoy yourself there. Extremely hot in Lewis County this summer and very humid. We have had a "drought" and tornado this summer. The corn still grows. Take care. Derek
