Riversdale to Oudtshoorn (179 km or 111 miles)—Sunday, March 2nd on a clear blue sky day. On the road by 8:00 this morning–took rare (most likely only) mileage reading of 63078. Continued back on R-323 and then on the N-2 this morning towards the town of Mosselbaai. Passed huge petrol? factory in the town of Petroport. In Mosselbaai, we turned down to the shore for a tour of the Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex. King John II of Portugal was determined to find a sea route to India via the southern tip of Africa. In 1487, he sent Dias from Lisbon with two caravels of 100 tons each and a larger store ship. Dias sailed down the coast of Africa constantly tacking against a southern wind. Tired of this, Dias sailed into the open ocean and missed ... read more

My first Afrikaans wedding! Arrived at the house we'd rented with some of the wedding party on the Friday night, and we from the moment we arrived we always had a beer in our hands! We went round to the brides families rented house and braaid. Lamb, wors and too much food and drink. The wedding wasn't till 4 on the Saturday, so the in the morning we went to the beach for a quick swim, we'll until I saw a stingray in the shallows. We had arranged for a massive mexican breakfast for 9am. So we headed back off the beach to start cooking it, armed with beer and fizzy, my favourite, we cooked and chatted. When we finally had to get ready to head off to the wedding we all got suited and booted ... read more

Day 4 We are up around 6:00. Before breakfast the hotel manager show us around the gardens where they have erected nesting boxes for Eagle Owls (none in residence at the moment). Our next stop is the Featherbed Preserve. We drive to a dock on the Knysna estuary and board a ferry to the preserve. The goal here is to take a nature walk from the top of the promontory to the restaurant below for lunch under the milk wood trees. We pick up walking sticks as the trail is steep, rutted and anything but smooth. It's 2 1/2k and we expect to take two hours. Much of the trail is shaded which is a blessing as the South African sun is intense. Here and there we break out of the thicket to glorious views of ... read more

This little town is quite a nice little stop over but to be honest I stayed for a month doing a great white internship and did little site seeing but I did like the time I spent there all the same. From what I saw this is a lovely little town, lovely shops, places to eat and of course the drinking venues.. For food I would highly recomment Kaai square.. or Kaai2 (sorry can't remember the exact spelling) but its located right next to the marina, right on the ocean front. Best. Food. Ever.... its all home made BBQ meals...and the owner is a character all in himself and sits and gives you great life advice. Unfortunately (or fortuneatly) the only venue I really went out to drink was a place called Flames (its on one ... read more

Well now it’s been some rather long time since last and I will try to remember what’s happened since but forgive me if it comes out rather shattered, not that you will know the difference… Anyway arrived in Mossel bay after a 17 hours bus ride from Johannesburg after a four our drive from Lapalosa. Suffice it to say I was in no hurry to sit down again for a while. But back to the important thing, internship. Got introduced to our living quarters at Boland Park (renamed Oceans hotel since I’ve been here). Got a brief summary of what I would be doing, rather short since I arrived one day late but below you will find a summary of the internship. Chumming Boat duty is a large part of Oceans and one big focus is ... read more

Cape Town Well I’m back on travelling feet after a rather eventful summer which will be reviewed below. But first I have to say, I love being back! And to make everyone back home somewhat jealous in their dreadful decline towards winter I can inform you that summer is amazing with shiny sun and nice temperatures! Anyway let´s recap to where I last left you. The last entry ended in hardship and pain after wich I caught an airplane down to Johannesburg. I can inform you that side effects of painkillers, anti diuretics and too little liquids can result in nausea and dry hulking which was the main theme of my three hour flight. Well on site I got a taxi to drive me straight to Johannesburg bus terminal in hopes of catching the daily train ... read more
