We left Perth on no sleep and with quite substantial hangovers which was a bad start as we had one of the worst flights I can remember. Going from Perth to Capetown is basically going back in time, it was a 33 hour day in the end! We slept for the first two days in Capetown and awoke on day three to the most glorious sunshine and with table mountain outside our bedroom window. We walked and walked and walked, exploring the town and getting our Africa heads on. Although Capetown is a very beautiful city, the disparity between wealthy and not wealthy, like in most countries of the like is huge. Our local transport was via mini bus where the driver wont leave 'til the bus is full. Full being ofcourse all seats with bums ... read more

Cape Town is a lovely city with many faces. It's European, it's African, it's rich, it's poor, it's safe, it's dangerous, and it's an opportunity to experience many varied activities in a relatively small area. We enjoyed the waterfront, Robben Island, the surrounding beaches and the wine country, but we never really explored the central city or the townships. Being cautious travelers, the possibilities for theft or other problems was just too great for us. The city tour that was included in our package took us to the major tourist spots. First stop was Table Mountain. This is the famous landmark of the city. A large revolving cable car took us up to the top. It was a slightly hazy day but we were still able to get good views and photos. On the top of ... read more

i have not had computer access for the past weeks..so i am now updating on what has happened. On 6th March Kelly and I flew to Cape Town where we spent just 2 days in disa's mum's house in a beautiful town called Claremont. Her house was right on the beach and was so stunning. I didn't get to see much of Cape Town cos from here we drove 3 hrs to the west coast and holidayed here for a week. The west coast was by far the best place i have been to..beautiful clear skies everyday and sunsets over the ocean. Got to do some diving, but the water is really cold here so thick wet suits were a must. i didn't see any sharks only little sand sharks unfortunately but later on i saw ... read more

We can't believe we've already been in South Africa for 3 weeks. It's flown by, thanks to what we like to call "Brown Ease". But let's rewind. Last blog many of you read about our parking ticket and said to yourselves "it's just Nick raving again"....but Nick was vindicated the very next day, when we awoke to find that the car next to ours had been broken into. And so we'd like to send a great big thanks to the Stellenbosch Traffic Authority, whose motto should be "Making the curbside safer for car thieves". Anyways, from Stellenbosch we drove literally 20 minutes down the N2 highway to a little winery/flea market/animal refuge called Spier....and this is where we began to feel like our trip to South Africa was going to end up being called Animal Planet. ... read more

Funny stories about Meg in Africa! Chapter 1: My first sailing lesson, February 25 After a short afternoon out on a lake 30 minutes from campus it became obvious that I either lack the McNeill sailing ability or will soon join the success of sailing which is known within my family. Here is a short list in which describes why I think I show potential within the McNeill sailing clan. (this list may not be true for all sailors in my family) 1. I helped sail one of our Hobbie Cats for speedy trip about the lake 2. I capsized twice in the middle of the lake --it adds excitement!— 3. Despite the fact the freshwater lake does not allow me to make it to Bimini, I still have a strong desire to strive sail there. ... read more

South Africa Hi everyone!!! We just recently left South Africa and it was so amazing!! It was my favorite place that we have been to thus far. I fell in love with it so much that I want to move there! Haha we’ll see if that actually happens. The morning that we arrived in Cape Town it was so foggy that we were really delayed at getting into our place at the dock. We had to wait around on the ship for a few hours until it cleared up. The view of Cape Town from the ship was so beautiful Table Mountain was breathtaking. When we finally got off the ship, four of my friends and I were ready to go off on our Baz Bus adventure! We bought these 7-day bus passes to go up ... read more

Well fans..its come to an end. LOL. Anyways, it's been a great trip. Nichole and I are currentlt at CPT Airport catching a flight to Jo'Burg, then London, then LA. I'll be home in about 25 hours!! Quick update. Yesterday as our last official day in CPT was a mixed bag. It was the rainest and coldest day we had. We tried to wake up early to make it to Robben Island -but we were hung over...lol. BTW, we had fun on Sunday night. We actually didn't know where to go and ended up in Kamps Bay at some place called Le Mar -too bad it was all European tourists and Afrikaneers -meaning mostly disco-y house-y stuff. Let's just say we drank a lot. We then went back to Jo'Burg where we ran into our cabbie. ... read more
