So it's Sunday morning here -we just went to church (ok we only stayed for about 20 minutes) and had lunch. And since Friday night we've basically been tourist. Here's a recap: Friday we headed out to Long Street (it was Nichole, myself, and Sharon aka Dead Weight). Long Street is kinda Sunsetish in the sense that its this one street with all these clubs and you walk up and down. It was a lot fo fun. We ended up at this place called Jo'Burg where they played stuff we used to listen to from like 6th to 9th grade (93-97). So all the dancing you wanted to do when you were too young to club we did!! People here are funny...and the lines are hilarious. Here are some: "You are my size." "I'll take you ... read more

So this entry is being written not about my travels or classes but about Cape Town in general. For starters the power is out in the city (or parts of it including Rondebosch where I am) for the 4th time in 3 days. (as of Tuesday) Cape Town is said to be one of the most “westernized cities in Africa” which is one reason why I am here. However, for being one of the largest cities in Africa I would have suspected that the power here would be more reliable. Sunday the power was out not only in Cape Town but the entire Western Cape (basically the entire Western Cost). I thought I would stop by the Catholic Church and wait between services (little did I know that 9 was there last morning service when I ... read more

It's been a busy two days and no longer as melancholy. As a caveat -this will probably be longer than usual because I have two days to cover Yesterday was a first day of filming. While our CPT make-up/wardrobe did a lot of work for us, there was still a lot of little things for us to find. So we split up and it kinda felt like a mission -we had to get all these things and had no idea what we were doing. But of course Nichole and I did the damn thing -and our lazy selves decided to hire a taxi while we went around time. The higlight of our trip revolved around two things -the indoor mall with our three favorite spots: Woolworth's (Target/K-mart), Pic-n-Pay (food), and Click's (Long's) and the Chinaman store ... read more

Feb 17-22, Cape Town I dropped of my car in Durban, and I took a flight to Cape Town. CT is very cosmopolitan, very busy, very relaxed nad yes, extremely beautiful. The city is dominated by mountains and surrounded by the ocean on two sides. It has a very different feel for it then the other major cities of the country. Cape Town was the first city established by the Dutch in South Africa, which is reflected by its architecture. One of the first monument I visited in Cape Town is the Castle of Good Hope, built by the Dutch to defend the town in the XVII century. It was never been besieged by an enemy, and is still used by the South African army for certain functions, but it is mostly a museum. The walls ... read more

Today started off pretty well. Nichole and I had breakfast at a cafe close to our flat and made a friend named Rayne. He thought we were actresses because we were working on stuff using the script. He reminded me a lot of Ab -so I'll call him SaAb...lol. Stupid joke I know. Anyways we was really interesting to talk to because of how his insights into the racial/ethnic issues in this country. Day III at James House was a moving experience. We do this thing where we split the kids in groups and have them rotate through 4 workshops -props and scenery, location, acting, and costume and wardrobe. I was in charge of the last of this and part of my thing is to ask them what type of costume and make-up they want. And ... read more

This post will actually be short -I have a paper to work on, but I'll write more later. Ok. Stop Rambling. Here some pictures of our South African home away from home. Not too bad right?? It was advertised as the ultimate playboy pad. And we are making good use of it. *Wink* I'm kidding! Just to give you a verbal description, we are staying in two floor flat -we occupy the 4th and 5th flooors of Greenmarket Suites. We are located in Greenmarket which has a lot of shops and a well known flea market. Nichole and I are sharing ... read more

Hey all. Hmmm...soo what to talk about? Well first off, walked our a bit this morning. I'll put picture down below at the end. More importantly, second day of programming went well. I love these kids. And the yesteday night we came up with our usual convoluted craziness -I just helped a little. Our movie as witches and vampires, a president -not Bush, soccer players and karate folk, and divas. Oh and a student. Things are a little difficult with the language barrier but the kids are soo good about it and they all support each other. They also make fun of our accent...lol. But hey -everyone has an accent. After our programming today we went to dinner at a place called Greens -think trendy LA spot . Needless to say I was over it. LOL. ... read more
