MONDAY 6TH APRIL 2015 (AM) - NEWS JUST IN FROM GEOFF: Everyone is good and they are on their way to the ferry port to see what one they can get. BIG drive yesterday and all feeling tired and a tad grumpy this morn. Will be able to rest up now for the crossing and get a good sleep back in Estepona tonight. I think they are hoping to go to the same hotel as on way out. Relieved to know they are safe and together. They are putting themselves through all of this to raise as much as they can for the charties. Please donate, even just a tiny bit, if you can - every bit helps - www.justgiving.com/teams/dorset-to-the-desert... read more

Morocco was one of my most anticipated adventures on this trip. And I will go no further south or west on this trip until I return to the USA. First, the positive: I went to Africa! I got 2 passport stamps - Spanish for leaving the Schengen area, and Spanish for returning. The food at lunch was great! I've never had couscous, so I was a bit hesitant. But I loved it. The bread was fantastic, the beef on metal skewers tasted great, and the chicken over the couscous was tender and falling off the bone. Yum! The soup had a little too much saffron in it, but based on what my nose has told me in the past, I think most Moroccan food probably has too much saffron in it for me. Lastly, that mint ... read more

First I must apologize for taking so long to write, the internet in Morocco was less than realiable. But I will do my best now to bring you along on our tour, and I invite my travel buddies to add any coments you wish in English or Spainish. If you were ever worried about travel to Morocco, don't be! I highly recomment a guided tour through Morocco we used Luxotour (http://www.luxotour.es/es/publications/ciudades-imperiales-desde-tarifa-3-_-271) with a well organized and enjoyable way to travel. If feels like only yesterday that we were walking though the cobblestone streets of Fez, with it's winding and maze like Medina, I would never attempt this Labyrinth without a guild, good god you would never find your way out. No cars allowed but watch out! for donkeys and scooters and push carts. Attenion! But WOW! ... read more

Exotic Tangier, Morocco, AFRICA! We made a day trip to Africa from Tariffa, Spain – the most southern point in Europe A 35 minute fast ferry to Tangier, Morocco, AFRICA! Really, it is one and a half hours with immigration, boat turning, … official tour guides greet you in traditional robes (jellaba) looking for tourists We were looking for Aziz – we had communicated with him via email There he was outside the ferry gates. A fast walk through the city was perfect. A green tea/mint drink in Petit Souk area – Relaxing Enjoyed people watching from our table. Still relatively quiet @ 11am A walk through the medina old narrow, winding streets – I mean really narrow and winding. Poked our heads into the local bakery– wood fired oven Most homes do not have an ... read more

The Medina walls are home to thousands of birds. Fist-sized nests pock the masonry from top to bottom. When the nestlings try out their wings they fly in short, drooping lines from hole to hole. Small Moroccan children make a game of grabbing them up in their little cupped paws. Fluttering wings tickle small palms until the the hands open with an abrupt giggle and the game begins again. We flew into Casablanca from Tunisia. Passport control was slow and testing. Customs officers would arbitrarily open and close lines on a whim. A Moroccan man in a Yankees cap was in front of me. When he reached the window the officials went over his paperwork with a magnifying glass, had him take off his hat and answer a slew of questions. When it was my turn ... read more

We ended 2013 with more diversity... After celebrating a true “American Thanksgiving,” in grand style, in Ksar el Kebir, we added a little bit more to our giant bucket of diversity before the end of 2013. First, since it was now really cold outside, Clay decided to try some grilling INSIDE. He set up a hibachi in the kitchen and Ann was mortified. All said and done, we had a completely smoke-filled house and our little Peace Corps issued smoke detector went off. On the bright side, the food was, in fact, delicious. We could also say that we had done something we had never done before (and probably won’t again). What’s life without a little excitement? Before we left Morocco for our Christmas-time vacation, we started hanging out on our now-covered roof in the mornings. ... read more
