SATURDAY 11TH APRIL 2015 - 3.30PM All three teams and two cars were welcomed back home today to a hearty chorus of cheers and applause. I am sure they will look back with pride and fond memories of what an awesome feat they have accomplished. A total of 14 days on the road with countless ups and downs, but they soldiered on and reached their goal together - THEY MADE IT FROM SHAFTESBURY TO MHAMID!! They have raised a whopping £10,381.95 for the charities to date and donations are still coming in! Smashed it! We are all so immensely proud of the lot of them and grateful to each and every one of you who have donated and supported them. There will be a final fundraiser at 19.30 o Saturday the 18th of April at East ... read more

FRIDAY 10TH APRIL 2015 - Two wonderful bits of news - Ed, Sally, Chris and Emily have today made it safely to Caen ready for the ferry crossing in the morning. Geoff and Tom finally arrived at Bristol airport at 2am this morning and are safely home. It's been such a long and eventful trek for them all and despite the worry it has caused for them and all of us back home, I am sure they will look back with pride and have fond memories of what an awesome feat they have accomplished. 14 days on the road now with endless breakdowns and repairs, a near accident, being separated for 2 days in Morocco and having to leave one vehicle behind in Spain on the way back. Often they were sleeping in the cars and ... read more

THURSDAY 9TH APRIL 2015 - Ed reported this morning: "We hope to make it closer to the port in France today ready for our ferry Sat morning, so out of Spain and over the boarder we go!" and the team said they have enjoyed Spain but were looking forward to crossing into France today ready for the ferry home on Saturday. Geoff and Tom have been stuck in Malaga since yesterday when their flight was cancelled due to the French air traffic control strikes. After being put up at a hotel, they are finally back at the airport this evening and have just gone through security ready for their rescheduled flight some 25 hours later. Fingers, toes and everything else crossed they don't face any more delays and arrive home safely in the wee small hours ... read more

WEDNESDAY 8TH APRIL 2015 - Well, what a day! After hours of discussion, phone calls and deliberation by the teams, Chris, Emily, Ed and Sally reluctantly carried on north last night while Geoff and Tom stayed behind in Loja to try and see if anything could be done to revive the Merc. Sadly, after lots of phone calls to everyone conceivable and looking into every single option over the course of the last 24 hours it was determined that the car could not be fixed or transported without significant delay and expense and had to be left behind. The wonderful English chap that they met after they broke down and has been helping them with transport, translations and all sorts of assistance locally has been left in charge of the Merc and will sell or scrap ... read more

TUESDAY 7TH APRIL 2015 - By the time poor Ed and Sally got the ferry across from Morocco it was very late so a sleep in was the order of the day today. This is what Sally reported about yesterday evenings events - we all got to the ferry port and booked on to the ferry for 6 o'clock as we arrived at 1130 and didn't think we would make the 12 o'clock ferry. After going though customs they rushed us through but we got separated at the really cool x ray machine where they x ray whole vehicles. Being the last ones through found that the others were on the ferry but we didn't make it ;( Made for a very long day!! We had to wait in Morocco when the others were in Spain. ... read more

MONDAY 6TH APRIL 2015 (AM) - NEWS JUST IN FROM GEOFF: Everyone is good and they are on their way to the ferry port to see what one they can get. BIG drive yesterday and all feeling tired and a tad grumpy this morn. Will be able to rest up now for the crossing and get a good sleep back in Estepona tonight. I think they are hoping to go to the same hotel as on way out. Relieved to know they are safe and together. They are putting themselves through all of this to raise as much as they can for the charties. Please donate, even just a tiny bit, if you can - every bit helps - www.justgiving.com/teams/dorset-to-the-desert... read more

SUNDAY 5th APRIL 2015 (21.00) - 3 teams have just cleared Marrakech and are heading north towards Casablanca. Just making a fuel stop then taking it in turns driving on as far as they can tonight as they want to get the ferry across the straits tomorrow afternoon. Being separated on the way down has made them appreciate how important it is to keep the team unified and they are all sticking together like glue and really watching out for each other. Great to hear :) Comms will be better once they are back in Spain. Will update you all again when I hear from them tomorrow.... read more

SUNDAY 5TH APRIL 2015 - We are so relieved that all three teams have been reunited and have rested up in Zagora overnight. They were planning on heading off around 10 this morning after a hearty breakfast for the start of their homeward journey. It has been quite an adventure with plenty of ups and downs, but they are still in good spirits and feeling very accomplished at having reached Mhamid together! They hope to get as far as Marrakech this evening. A HUGE thank you to Sally for uploading so many wonderful photos for us all to enjoy. I have attached a selection of some of the scenery over the last few days as they travelled through the Atlas to down to Mhamid (pay no attention to the date stamp - oops!)... read more
