Well this should have been a highlight of the cruise but ended up a real fizzer. Our travel agent had insisted that we would not be able to book shore excursions until we boarded the MV Discovery. On arrival, we were told that all the shore trips for Galapagos were sold out and they said we should see our travel agent when we got back and ask them why we had not been given an advance booking form. They did put us on a standby list and eventually we were given about the worst shore excursion that we had ever been on, the bit that spoilt it was one and a half hours at sea in a small very uncomfortable boat listening to the crew yelling at each other in Spanish. Anyway, this cruise had cost ... read more

Galapagos Islands... How do you descibe them? Breath-taking, beautiful, amazing or special? All of them and then all the others you can think of. Truth is, there is not any just way of properly describing how the Galapagos are without actually being there in person. I will tell you a little bit about them and then our pictures will do an even better job, but truthfully the only way to know it fully is to go there yourself! So if you like what you see, get planning and better start saving! We had an awesome time. Two weeks was spent futively trying not to get burned in the strong equatorial sun while we took in the sights of more than 8 different islands. When we first got there we tried to find a cheap boat cruise around ... read more

Natürlich kam auch ... read more

13 March, Tuesday... So we're in Quito now. Time to try to find a bargain on a trip to the Galapagos Islands. I know it's going to be expensive but I'm hoping $1000 should be ok. After spending the whole morning going into various travel agencies and being offered much the same things it seems $1500 might be the going rate. Then things went a bit weird in the last travel agency. The girls working there didn't want to talk to their boss so gave the phone to me and then I could see why. He was an absolute nutbag who shouted down the phone at me telling me we were both islanders and had something in common (he was from the Galapagos). Then I got rid of him and the two girls who worked ... read more

März den ... read more

Well, I am almost home. Just sitting here putting the final touches on my last blog in a locotorio in Equador. What a trip its been, but I am really ready to come home at this point and get things rolling again. I am actually looking more foreard to business then I ever have. Anyways back to where I left off. The Galapagos Island. An 8 day adventure of sailing and wildlife that I will never forget. Im sure many are wondering what is the deal with the strage title. We had a young guide named Richard that grew up on the islands. Though his english was very good he always had a funny twist of describing characteristics of the animals and the title was my favorite. and I dont think he meant it to be ... read more

Wow! Galapagos really is a paradise. Even for someone like me who doesn’t have any particular interests in animals or birds, it was the most beautiful experience. You can literally walk within a few feet of nesting birds, swim with the sealions and get up close to land and marine iguanas and they don’t bat an eyelid. I spent a week on Cormorant 2 Catamaran, a good-sized new boat which has plenty of deck space and lots of stability if the seas get rough (so I didn´t suffer from any sea sickness). I was unlucky enough to end up in a cabin directly over the engine room, which meant a constant noise and vibration in the cabin from the generator, even if the boat wasn´t moving, but the sights of the islands helped to keep ... read more
