Hola mis amigos, I´ve just returned from what I think might be one of the most amazing things I do in my lifetime....the 5 days I spent on the Galapagos Islands were just unbelievable. As soon as we landed in the Galapagos Island of Baltra we were greeted by birds diving into the water like arrows and pelicans gulping down a morning snack. The Frigate birds swoop around high overhead with their terradactyl wings and it feels like you have entered another world. I was so excited when we got to Galapagos, I felt like a kid receiving presents every half an hour with the landscapes and wildlife... I couldn´t believe I was finally in a place where I used to dream of going to. The islands are very different some with very arid land and ... read more

The arrival was quite scary, approaching Isla Santa Cruz at about 200 metres high (it felt like the wing tips were going to skim the water) as the runway is right on the edge of the Island was a bit frightening. Had to drive through the centre of the Island to get to the south where we were to catch a speed boat for 45 mins (I just had to focus on the Island behing us for the whole time and I couldnt speak with anyone in case I was sick!) to catch up with the boat, Angelique and the rest of the group (remember I was a day late because of the flight cancellations). So first stop Floreana Island, the first thing I saw were flamingos then manta rays, crabs, marine Iguanas, sea lions and ... read more

Am back home now!! Well, until the first week in October anyway......... Here's my last installment of South America, covering the last bit of Peru (Nazca for the famous Nazca lines, and Lima) after which I flew to Quito in Ecuador. Quito is where you fly to Galapagos from, and also where I was flying back to England from. Had such a great time in South America, it was quite a wrench to leave. Especially as I met a lot of people in Galapagos who were just starting their South American trip. They were full of talk about going to some of the places I had been too. Was very tempted to cancel my flight and do the whole thing again! But then, its always best to leave a party too early than too late, and ... read more

Hello all, Well, from the messages we have received so far, it would seem that our first blog entry went down really well with you all, so we hope this one does not disappoint! So, what have we been doing these past 3 weeks or so? After the Amazon, we headed south to a tiny little village called Chugchilan, which is high in the Andes and located on the so-called Quilotoa Loop. It is one of those places that has only one road and one shop and about 20 inhabitants! Fortunately, it also has a fantastic little hostel called Mamma Hilda´s, which is where we stayed for a couple of nights. There were no English speakers here, so our "pigeon" Spanish was severely put to the test! The highlight was a wonderful 6 hour walk from ... read more

I know I promised those of you I met on the Sur del Cruz (AKA GAP Adventurer II) that I would send you copies of the photos I took starring you and the rest of the group. As I took so many photos (hahaha) this seemed to be the best way to accomplish this task . Just let me know if you would like me to send you any of the picture files, I would be happy to, but please make sure you have enough room in your email inbox first :) Thanks, Christine... read more

Nous ... read more

So after Isabela I went boating darling! I went from Puerto Ayora to the airport to await the 15 other "Yolita" passengers from the planes. Was feeling a little apprehensive as all of the tourist boats which stopped in Isabela were full of spoilt American children with their equally spoilt parents - was hoping I wouldn´t have to endure 8 days with people like them! Well I couldn´t have been more wrong. Everyone was around my age (I shared my cabin with a girl called Lexy from Scotland) except for 2 random Austrian guys called Max (a professor of history) and Erich (a priest) - they were on a tour of Ecuador celebrating Max´s 60th birthday!! But not to worry they fitted in perfectly and provided us with great entertainment for 8 days - their English ... read more
