Wondering whether anyone knows whether we should expect to be taxed for items we are donating.

We are heading to South America, from January 2010 through the end of April 2010. We will land in Quito, spend 2-weeks there, then head to Banos for 1-month. We are bringing: books, games, craft items, and digital cameras to the Fundacion del Arte Mundo. I was in a conversation with someone today who wondered whether we had considered the possibility of having to pay taxes on these items.

Does anyone know? I don't think the net value of these items will exceed $200. Do we just declare it on the customs form, or can we do something else?

Thanks! Reply to this
