Greetings from Fiji. We arrived at 5am on May 8th, having lost a day going over the international dateline, to a beautiful sunrise and very warm, humid air. It was a struggle to get our bags through customs and find someone who would take all of us and the luggage to our airport, but Gregg was in charge and he found a van to transport us to Denarau. Our hotel room was not quite ready so we stored our bags in the "day room" and changed into our swim suits. The hotel grounds were lovely. We had about an hour to explore before the rain began. Since our room wasn't going to be ready until 2pm and we had no where else to go, we just played in the rain. The pool is one of the ... read more

(Sorry for the delay in getting the blog going) After many tearful goodbyes, we finally made it to Dulles with our 550lbs of luggage. The flight to Fiji was not as bad as we had thought. We all slept a little, somehow Graham managed to get 3 seats to himself, Gregg got to play doctor to a sick passenger, we had movies to watch and books to read. Gregg's doctoring skills gave us some clout with the flight staff and we were allowed to move to the upper deck where seats were bigger and there was more leg room. We wish we had known about this earlier on in the flight or the booking process.... read more

Hello, So this is our last blog entry, just to let those of you who dont know what we got up to in our last few days of our trip!! So we left Cairns after feeling pretty tired by now, the late nights, long bus journeys were beginning to take thier toll a bit and the thought of a beach for 5 days seemed like the best option. We flew to Fiji on the 2nd April on 'Pacific Airlines'. Lots of friendly Fijians all with massive afro's and flowers pinned behind their ears! They kept offering us drinks, so we indulged ourselves with wine for moi, and Fijian Beer for Dan! We landed in Nadi late in the evening, to be escorted to our hotel, which thankfully turned out to be lovely, again lots of happy ... read more

Bula everyone (this means hello and welcome)!!! It doesn't seem two minutes since we arrived but our two weeks in Fiji are nearly over and then its time for Hawaii and only five weeks until we arrive home! We arrived on the biggest of Fiji's islands; Viti Levu but this is just one of over 300 islands scattered around the South Pacific. We have come to Fiji just to chill out and relax and to take part in what is known as Fiji time! We landed in the country's third largest town; Nadi and stayed for 5 nights down by the beach on the west coast. Apart from being right on the beach and having its own pool, you also got free use of the local golf course. Luke was well excited..... until he got there ... read more

After queuing up in the heat for what seemed like hours in immigration, we were glad to finally get outside into the fresh air. We made it to the Travellers Beach Resort in Nadi, just before a tremendous thunderstorm hit. (It was the end of the rainy season). Once the storm had cleared, we ventured to the bar to socialise. Found out that twice a week, entertainment was provided. Usually a show (Fire dancing & Hula) or the "Kava" ceremony. "Both well worth a go and it's free." Spent time in Nadi, doing the usual shopping etc. Found prices to be really cheap (Unlike Rarotonga). As usual there are a few scams to watch out for; Don't let yourself be dragged into a gift shop! The police warned us, only after we'd been conned.... It ... read more

Greetings from New Zealand! I just arrived a few hours ago, so not much to write about from here yet; I'll get to that in a later post. But as for Fiji.... it was wonderful. Since this is my first post, I'll start from the beginning. The first actual realization as to where I was going and really how far away I am was on the plane from LAX to Fiji. The flight left at around 1 AM and I immediately went to sleep on the plane. When I woke up, I turned on the video monitor in front of me and switched it to the map of where we were. At the time, we were just crossing the equator, and the map showed Los Angeles waaaaaaaaay up in the top right hand corner, and Fiji ... read more

Day 180 - Tuesday 18 March Having rained all night it was still raining this morning but then we did come to Fiji during the rainy season. After checking out we took the bus back to Nadi town. I tell you there was an amazing array of afros on that bus they were unbelievable. Checking into our hostel I noticed they were offering a good deal on the island were planning to visit next. It was so good I snapped it up. I might have to do it on my own though as Russ' bank card hasn't arrived and he doesn't want to leave town until he gets it. Given theres not actually much to do in town and i´d rather be on a desert island i´m going regardless. With the rain still falling it was ... read more

Day 177 - Saturday 15 March I´d only managed to get just over 3 hours sleep but as I had to check out at 10am I had no choice but to get up, I actually didn´t feel to bad but i´ve a strong feeling that i´m still drunk. Today we fly to Fiji and the chance to slow down again and laze around on the beach. As everything was scatered all over the car first order of the day was to pack up for the flight and give our car a quick tidyup before we returned it. We´d had to park the car on the street and when we returned I noticed we´ve got a $40 parking ticket. Apparently were parked in a loading/unloading only spot. Now i´m not lying here but we definetly weren´t we ... read more

The first thing you learn when you arrive in Fiji is the word 'Bula'. It means everything - hello, welcome, thanks and a whole host of other things. In the first half an hour you've said it 20 times and had it said to you three times that number, always accompanied by a big smile! On the eve of our flight to Fiji we went online to find the islands had been hit by a cyclone which had caused only minor damage in most places, but had left everywhere pretty wet. Luckily despite the weather and the Fijian time the Pacific Airline operate on, the flight was pretty painless and we arrived in Nadi, the capital at 4pm. Our first port of call was a cash machine as we didn't have a Fijian cent between us. ... read more
