Hey or should we say Bula! Arrived in Nadi, wow! Checked in to our hostel, Aquarius which is great backs on to the beach with amazing views : ) Had out first swing on the hammocks (when we eventually worked out how to get in them without falling out!) watched the sunset and then chilled out with a glass of wine to plan the week ahead. Hope all is ok xx ... read more

After our island tour being fairly unaffected by the flooding, we knew our mainland tour would be slightly different. Day 1 - Nadi to The Coral Coast : After meeting with our Feejee Experience group, we headed to Natadola Beach (Apparantly the 7th best beach in the world) but didn't seem so, after having a lot of debris washed up on it after the floods. Here we introduced ourselves to one another and had a barbeque lunch, and realised how rubbish our tour guide was! After asking questions, with little response, we realised many of our big activities for the week of mainland touring, were cancelled. Gutted! This included no Namosi Highland Trek, no mud/hot pools, no trip to Suva due to the roads/bridges being broken/collapsed and no bili bili rafting (although this was promised and ... read more

Day 1 (Tuesday) - I got off the plane about 4 o’clock and fortunately getting through customs didn’t take too long. I had made arrangements to be picked up at the airport by my hostel, which was a relief. However, it did not seem so easy after I got off the plane. As I was walking out of the airport a guy greeted me who asked me where I was going. I told him the name of my hostel and he guided me to a travel office where he said the woman inside could help me. The only thing she could help me with was booking cruises. I grabbed some brochures and left. I then found the area where the hotels and hostels pick up. I was waiting on the benches as they filled with others ... read more

Bula! I have arrived safely in Fiji. It is wicked hot here (in a fabulous sunny way) with some really funny brief mist storms (we're talking 45 seconds apiece). Needless to say, I've been lazing by the pool all day. My hostel is ridiculously nice, especially for (ahem) $9.00 a night. To see pics: http://www.nomadsskylodge.com/ppc/offer02-google-nomadsskylodge.php?gclid=CN67sIOetZgCFRwDagodGQTMUg#facilities I met a great girl at the airport, Sandra, and she is not only in my same room at the hostel but she's also going on the same island hopping tour with me tomorrow. So great. She's from Germany and worked for Red Bull but just graduated so now she's on a 4 month travel stint. There have been floods in the islands (it's the wet season) and I guess that some flights were even canceled here last week, but you ... read more

BULA!! (Which means Hello in Fijian) We've just arrived back from the Yasawa Islands which are islands of the North West Coast of the main land. We have a pass which meant we could spend 5 nights at any of the island resorts for however many nights we liked. We set off on a catermaran type thing for a 4 hour journey to a place called long beach. The locals from the resort would come and collect us from the ship in their fisherman boats and they would take us to the reosrt, as soon as we stepped off the boat the heavans opened and it started to rain, I mean monsoon rain mixed with a little bit of hail - even Noah himself would have been proud!. So there we are in the middle of ... read more

The first plane ride I had was at 2:30 in the morning from Buenos Aires to Auckland, NZ. I had one of the two middle seats in the middle area of four, which wasn’t the best but not a big problem given my previous bus experiences. The flight was about 14 hours and had two movies over the course of it. The movie system was not of the newer design and we all had to watch the same movie, though you could opt in to the audio. The first movie’s audio turned from English to Spanish on the English station at the end of the movie but the second movie was fine. Things seemed to be served at arbitrary times. We were served dinner though it was nearly 3am from where we had departed. There was ... read more

Well, since my first entry alot's happened and now being in Vancouver, it's only Monday but REALLY feels like Tuesday. I was taking a stroll around the hotel in Nadi and bumped into (more got dragged over) a Japanese guy named Isa (sure it means 'crazy' in japansese). We ended up playing cards and next thing I know, I'm at a bar down the road meeting half a dozen japanese girls. So much for a quiet stroll :-) I now have a henai tatoo on my left leg which I was told says Daniel in Japanese. Who knows :-) Anyway my Day cruise was great. Went to Mana Island and had a dip in the beautiful water before having a barbeque lunch (tasty, tasty lamb) and a bit of a nanna nap by the pool. Perfect ... read more

Hey there! So leg one of our journey, and we found ourselves in Fiji for a two day stop. Bula! Everybody and their brother will greet you with Bula- they absolutely love to say it! We had a great two day excursion. Becky got quite sunburnt, but ironically just on various parts of her body. Nathan proceeded to get extremely tan- a tad bit red perhaps, but isn't he lucky having his red turn to bronze. We laid by the pool (alot), went for beach walks, sailed in the afternoon sun, rode the bula bus, took a jet ski safari, snorkeled the clear blue waters, got stung by jellyfish, drank some tropical drinks, had fijian food, took shots of fijian sleepy juice, and watched the sunset. That's pretty much the recap. I'll try and get some ... read more

Bula. Well I finally got to my hotel...The flight to Nadi was fine, had a window seat and no-one to my right, so managed to get a bit of sleep. However after being welcomed off the plane by some beautiful traditional fijian music and through customs, I told a woman I was to be transfered to my hotel....she pointed out a man who'd take me....45 minutes later he got up from his seat and walked me to the shuttle bus. Fiji Time :-) As it turns out, he was waiting for more passengers to my hotel. The hotel is cosy. I have my own room with air-con, which I finally got going. Managed to fall back to sleep for 5 hours which was great as I feel normal again. Had a Fiji Draught (not as good ... read more
