Bula everyone, still in Fiji but only until 22-00 to-day when we fly out LA by some miracle we arrive there before we leave here at 13-00 on the same day. We're just hanging about round the pool til we get picked up at 6-00 pm.We just got the bill for our stay here so we're going for a lie down to recover, as you may expect the biggest part of the bill was for alcohol. Hope Deborah and Thomas both had a nice birthday without us but we'll make up for it when we return.Claire and Michael, we hope to see you on Sunday before you go to Dubai and everyone else as soon as possible. We've read all the books on the island so it's time to move on. No wonder the Aussies are all ... read more

Hi guys, still lots of sun sea and swimming, we eventually gave up on the photos but I think Mum's got about 3000 to show you when we get home. Went into Nadi yesterday, that the largest town locally, about the size of Wallasey village, but Mum managed to spend about the budget of a small country on various items . I think my time on the computer is about to run out. So love to everyone and we'll be in contact soon... read more

Bula everyone from Fiji, Tropical isle very hot amazing resort. We finally came out of the jungle and the rain. There was no phone reception TV or anything else apart from trees toads frogs crocs and box jellyfish called stingers which can sting you to death, also in the sea the occasional shark. However we're now on an island with our room overlooking the beach, tomorrow we move into another room with jacuzzi etc, they've upgraded us because the room wasn't ready, including giving us a free dinner and bottle of champers! We are now 11 hours ahead of you so the flight from Brisbane was only just over 3 hours which is why this feels like we are still in Australia. It is full of Australians! Glad to hear the babies are coming along nicely, ... read more

Hi all, So after having to finish going round the Yasawa Islands (I only had a 7 day pass), I decided that rather than stay in Nadi, which would have been a bit dull, I would go up into the mountains instead. I finally arrived at Stony Creek by late evening after getting the transfer back on the yellow boat, and met Jo and Calv from England, and Nate from the USA. We ended up having a doubles pool battle, which me and Calv won 2-1, with little help from me apart from a few amazing, and completely fluke shots. At about midnight I went up to the dorm which I had to myself - avoiding the frogs living on the path on the way up! Once in the dorm I shooed out the wildlife - ... read more

Bula! (Hello), I have finally found a decent internet cafe to update this from - in the islands they charge $15 per hour - only $1 per hour here in Nadi (Nan-di), the equivalent of roughly 30p. So I set off at stupid-o'clock in the morning to catch the 11 hour plane out to Los Angeles. I thought it was going to be a nightmare but it ended up being alright as it was a BA flight, and therefore comfy, with lots of films and food - ended up watching Karate Kid (rubbish), The Last Airbender (good), The History Boys, The Back-up Plan and some random stuff off TV. The food was okay, though I wouldn't recommend eating Chicken Tikka whilst on an aeroplane going through turbulence - it doesn't work. The airport in LA was ... read more

What can i say about Kava, Fiji's traditional drink? It looks like muddy water, it tastes like muddy water, in fact it tastes like muddy water that all the villagers have washed their feet in first. If there's one thing I've learnt during the past 7 months travelling its this, if any food or drink is described as "traditional" it tastes like feet. Every house, village, special ceremony you go to, you get offered Kava and its considered rude not to drink a bowl once offered. So down the hatch it goes, close my eyes and think of England. Which is what I'm doing more and more now its only a few weeks away! Got a few pictures of me enjoying a nice bowl of Kava, shame you cant quite capture the sound of gagging! Passed ... read more

Bula! I’m writing this in Nadi Horizon resort, after a fortnight of cruising around the Yasawa and Mamuca islands and I’ve got lots of tales to update you on, so I hope you don’t get bored. We’ve had an amazing time already and I might go as far as to say it’s been the best experience we’ve had so far! It was only 2 weeks ago that we were in Auckland, in a ropey hostel, enjoying cloudy weather and a prison like bedroom, counting down the minutes to our Fiji trip. The premiership season had kicked off back in England and Everton were playing Blackburn at 2am NZ time...so I was feeling a little bit far from home for the first time (Clio obviously didn’t care about the football :-)). However, I was confident the change ... read more

We are on our way to warmer climates, woohoo!!! I couldnt wait. I had been looking forward to visiting Fiji since the beginning of our trip and after such cold weather in OZ i was ready for some beach time. It only took 3 hours to reach Nadi on mainland Fiji but the difference in temperature hit us as soon as we stepped off the plane. Nadi airport is only small so our bags arrived pretty quick and we walked out the doors to find a women who would take us to our hostel. We had booked to stay at nadi bay resort for 2 nites but did not have any plans arranged after that. We sat on a couch and waited for the rest of the people for our bus. Everybody coming from arrivals were ... read more

I got into Fiji 3 days ago and I'm leaving for Vanuatu tomorrow morning. So Nadi...it's what I envision Cuba looking like 20 years ago, it's pretty rundown. When the car picked me up from the airport all I could think was I hope the hostel isn't in downtown Nadi. I new it was on a beach, but Nadi is on the water too. Anyways, the hostel (Smugglers Cove) is on the edge of Nadi and has it's own bar and restaurant. The back doors open up to it's own private beach scattered with coconut trees. I mention the coconut trees for this reason; there's an old man here (65) named Joni (said like Johnny) who climbs the trees like a monkey, cuts the coconuts down and sells them to people staying at the hostel. Coconuts ... read more

We are staying on Denarau island for 5 days but only have one day free to explore Nadi and surrounds. Would love to see a bit of true Fiji, realising that Denarau is just resorts and golf course. We are doing an island trip one day with some snorkeling but want to know about a must do in the Nadi area. Any suggestions?... read more
