It had been a long month for this little black duck on the Gold Coast. A lot of down time, work that drove me insane, a week at a less than desirable hostel. But all that was a small price to pay for the luck that befell me in the form of a phonecall from old mate Alanna. It went something like this... Mark: Good afternoon this is Mark, how may I help you today? Alanna: It's me you idiot Mark: Sorry Alanna: Do you wanna go to the Shannon Noll Concert on Sunday Mark: Lengthy pause Alanna: Hello? Mark: Are you serious??? Alanna: Yeah. Mark: OH... MY... GOD!!!!!!! Orma'GawdOrma'GawdOrma'GawdOrma'Gawd!!!! Turns to Em, puts hand over phone I'm going to Shannon Noll!!! I'm going to Shannon Noll!!! Oh my God!... read more

Still can’t quite believe that we are in Australia but after five (amazing) months in Nz we have hopped across to see her much bigger brother. We arrived here about 3 days ago after a good weekend in Christchurch - Highlights of which included being invited (gatecrashing?) a 21st birthday party in a really cool bar and going to a fantastic bead shop and making each other beaded bracelets because we are travelers now and that’s what us traveler types like to wear. And of course being in Christchurch which is a nice city with lots of old (well older) buildings and parks and stuff. It wasn’t all fun and games though as in order to get to Sydney we had to get up at 4am in the pouring rain and darkness to get a shuttle ... read more

It is about 11:00pm, and we have been made aware of the attempted terrorist attacks on the US. We are monitoring flight information and are checking online to get the most up to date restrictions for carry on items, security, etc... As of right now, our plans remain unchanged. That may all change in the morning. We will be leaving the hotel at 4:30am to go to the airport. I will know more about our flight status when we get there. I will not activate the phone tree unless there have been drastic changes in our flight plans. If you have questions about our flights, please check the American Airlines Web site for delays, and/or call the Program Office. I will call the office first with any changes in our itinerary before I activate the phone ... read more

Moi No niin Sain viimein duunia, 1000 paata joita ajetaan kaikin mahdollisin keinoin kohden pohjoista. Paras tarjous taman illan aikana on koskenut ilmapatjaa. Luultavasti tarjolla on aika ra... read more

Like Alice Springs (see ), sadly, time was pressed, so it was another lightening city-in-a-day tour for us. In the morning we took the free tourist tram, which loops round the Central Business District. The only problem was this was that people used it as a free hop-on, hop-off service so it was often quite full and we couldn’t see an awful lot. Once we had been round the loop we went to the viewing platform at the top of the Rialto Building. This building was there when I was in Melbourne last time, but, back then, there was no viewing platform. After that we walked along Collins Street to the Fitzroy Gardens to see some of the things that were there last time I was in Melbourne (see ). There's Captain Cook’s Cottage and there's ... read more

Yes, back again. We liked it soooo much the first time (bar the disgusting dorm) that we had to come back for more. This time we opted to stay in a much nicer hostel that we found with cleaners, a pool and only 6, not 16, to a room. That does not meen, however, that Lara and I are staying in the same room. oh no. It is peak season here with not a cloud in the sky and not a degree below 30. This is proper weather and a welcome change from that crap out East. the place is packed and no prisoners are taken when trying to get into a hostel or onto a tour (later). The main reason for being here is that Bali (Indonesia) is only just over 2 hours away and ... read more

Hello! Since the last blog we have basically been in Rockhampton. Rockhampton generally sucked, but there were a couple of ok things to do there. On our first full day we went to the Capricorn Spire which marks where the Tropic of Capricorn crosses Australia, which was fun. Then we went to the zoo, which was pretty cool as we saw a Kangaroo who had a Joey in her pouch (6 legged roo from our last blog), and also Koalas, Crocs, Chimps, Cassowarys and lots of birds. We got a cool picture of a peacock displaying for is, which we'll post up on the next blog. We then spent a bit of time walking around the botanical gardens which is on the same site as the zoo, but decided it wasn't that interesting so we swiftly ... read more

Greetings once more loyal readers. My apologies yet again for the lengthy duration between blogs. Word on the cyberstreet is that Simmo's Tour of BEWDY!! is getting a reputation for more broken promises than a John Howard election campaign, having mentioned several times that I'll be "adding another blog soon". But, in the words of an old mate of mine, Bulwinkle the moose, "this time for sure". So as far as I can remember when I last left you I had just signed off on my Jackaroo experience and arrived in the Gold Coast - party town full of glitz, glamour, themeparks, nightclubs and slutty charm. Within hours of arriving at the coast I was lying on the golden sand in Surfers Paradise and who should be standing next to me but Steven Bradbury of Australian ... read more

Wed 9 Aug. Walked docks at Able Marina. Charted boat flying SC&B. Two more flags on boats when I'd done. Many stickers too. Lunch. Sea eagle, underneath white with black airlerons to the tips. Splendid. Thur 10 Aug. Spruiked town and docks looking for boat. There's always a chance of no ride. Mid afternoon got a spot on Mummbo - Mumm 11! Got job to clean bilge. No problem. This should be fun!!! Very good Fred. You haven't lost your touch. To think that tomorrow I'll be at the starting line in one of the hottest fleets is exciting. Signal flags. The thrashinbg of jibs and shiouts of 'up'. Start gun firing the beginning of race week.... read more
