After breakfast we went for a walk around the neighbourhood - peaceful, tranquil and sunny. We saw some of the local vineyards, Darren accidentally electrocuted a horse (don’t ask) and Isobel kept us all entertained! We then went on a tour of some wineries - I would name them but after the first one Sars was a little tipsy and by the third we needed the fantastic lunch (amazing platters at Jane Brook) - of course washed down with a bottle of vino! We then headed off to try some port and finished off the day with tea and cake. Needless to say the evening was a relaxed one, but our hosts had excelled themselves once again and we were so lucky to have seen a side to Perth that many miss. Photos to follow....... read more

It felt as though we’d been in the air for ages, but at 1:45am local time we landed at Perth International, with it 23 degrees outside! Still very confused and for the duration of the day didn't know the time, day or date! I hadn’t managed to book a hotel and given it’s mid-summer, we didn’t have much luck finding one at the info point. So we put the bags in left luggage and headed into Perth to watch the sun rise and wander round the city whilst it slept. By 8:30am we were in a taxi off to see Celia (friend of Sars from Uni), Darren and Isobel. The drive to their place took us into Swan Valley and past numerous vineyards - all this less than 30 mins from the centre of Perth. As ... read more

Hello hello. Have been taking it easy the last few days. Saturday was a horrible hot and humid day so I slept most of it...finally getting dressed about 5pm! Gotta love those lazy summer days! :) Sunday was relaxing too...went to the pub with the boys then back to someone's house for seafood on the bbq...then back to andrew's house for more relaxing, film watching etc. Yesterday went into the city, got a few last minute things...like a hat *much to my dislike...* and met my auntie for lunch. About 10 of us went out for dinner last night, a farewell meal! I ATE KANGAROO! It was BEAUTIFUL! Yum! Leaving W.A today. Quite sad to go, just made friends with people and got used to the beautiful scorching weather! Excited too though....this is where the real ... read more

Hi all, dont think i spelt my title right but never mind, you get the gist(is that spelt right? i give up ). Anyway, what have i been up to...looking for a job mainly (i'll come to that later) but also on Friday we went down South again for the day. This time we went through the wine region of Margaret River and down to Augusta where they have the surf competitions and we went to the Jewel Cave (hence the title). So first off, we went to Flinders Bay, a little beach and had a wander along there, it was quite nippy in the wind . We then set off for the Jewel Cave, didnt like the tour guide from the start as he asked 'how old are the kids!!!' meaning me and Nat. the ... read more

Hello all, We arrived today in Thailand. We came on a boat from the island of Langkawi off the west coast of Malaysia. These are some of the things we've done since we last did an update. -Got bitten to pieces by bedbugs in KL (C had approx 80 bites on one forearm!) -Visted the impressive Petronas Towers and the huge shopping mall beneath it. -Went to Batu Caves with its enormous golden statue and hindu shrines (and nearly 300 steps!) - Visited the city of Melaka where we took a trip in a trishaw complete with flashing lights and disco music and explored the late night market in Chinatown. -Spent two days rainbound on the island of Tioman off Malaysia's east coast. Once voted one of the 10 most beautiful islands in the world its ... read more

Well we made it to our most northerly point in WA, Exmouth (that's Ex-mouth not Ex-muth), after another Greyhound nightmare!! Lets just say, 3 hours waiting at a road house in the middle of nowhere between 2am and 5am!! We got here at 8am and are only staying for 1 night, as we have so much else to see in the next 6 weeks. So we didn't hang around and headed straight for the Visitor's Centre, where we booked a Scooter and Snorkelling Tour, as it seemed more fun than just hiring a car again! Exmouth is based at the most northern point of the Ningaloo Reef (which according to good old Lonely Planet rivals the Great Barrier Reef, but with hardly anyone around). The town is pretty quiet and all the good stuff is kind ... read more

Hello. Yesterday I bought some short shorts. Im not sure why, I will probably never wear them out of this country but over here it just feels right! I then proceeded to make my legs the same colour as my arms- pink. This took a lot of sitting round in the garden! What a hard life ey! Today, I went on a train adventure to Freemantle. It has markets! Good markets! They mostly sell koalas and stuff with "australia" plastered over it but they also have some good little shops that sell really individual clothes...the sort where u want to buy the whole shop then realise you'd never wear any of it! I liked it though. Freemantle is a nice place! I will return there one day...in April! Coming up to my last weekend in perth ... read more

The hot spell (40 degree nonsense) seemed to end on Sunday night...we had thunder storms...well, i say thunder storms...it was just thunder and lightening with about 5 specks of rain! Im not exaggerrating! Monday I got driven to 'Ledge Point'- about an hour away up the coast. Gill's friend's family owns a beach shack there...that is where we stayed! We were a stone's throw from the beach! Yum yum! Finally got to have a swim in the sea- which is as warm as a bath! Delicious! Went to lancelin to visit his cousin- a cray fisherman. there's a pub there...and a fish and chip shop...oh and some beach! We also went out on his little fishing boat...it was extremley scary at first...and then i loved it! As all that consists of ledge point is beach and ... read more

After some lengthy bus rides (partly due to the distance, and partly due to the Greyhound's being a tad unreliable of late) we got into the 'proper' northwest of WA to get back to nature a bit. When we finally got to Kalbarri late in the evening, we found ourselves in a nice hostel but with no food and no shops open! Luckily our fellow traveller and bus companion, Andrin, came to the rescue with some emergency rations that kept us going until the morning! En route to the shops in the morning, we saw the much talked about pelicans who live by the river, although we'd slept in a bit and missed seeing the early morning feeding. Wondering what we were going to do for the next 2 days we spoke to Goodryn, who worked ... read more
