Hey all! Having a great time in Perth. I've met this excellent English guy, and I'm loving every minute of being back in this city. The hostel still isn't nearly as good as it once was, but since I'm working now, it doesn't really matter. I don't have time to sit around and drink between work and hanging out with Nick. I'm going to start doing touristy things this weekend, so pictures will be coming soon. A trip to Rottnest Island will be very soon, also gonna get on the ferry and get some nice pictures of the skyline. Nick and I went on a walk the other day to the swan river. It was so nice. We'll probably walk to Kings Park this weekend. Hopefully during the day, cuz I've already seen it at night. ... read more

We had travelled only a short distance onto the Brockman highway before the scenery changed dramatically to dense forest. Huge Karri trees rose majestically into the sky. The small scenic drives through the forest were great very few cars and people. The wildlife especially birds kept Tash on the lookout. Pemberton an old logging town was a beautiful stop the old railway line took us up close through the forest over old rickety bridges and dried out streams. The climb up the Gloucester tree was a nervous experience climbing 61 feet up into the treeline on glorified large screws was not a clever thing to do but fun nontheless (if a bit scary). Tash looked on from terra firma with camera in hand taking pics of me and a million Parrots. The whole south west section ... read more

So long time no update :) Well headed up to the Abel Tasman ) warmest place in New Zealand on the coach and spent a night in Nelson and then up to the park where i stayed on Old McDonalds farm. I arrived and it was absolutely lashing down and i was staying in this manky hut sharing the room with a hypochondriac who popped pills for every reason, migraines, anti inflammatorys, sleeping pills- i actually thought i'd end up waking up in the morning with her dead and me being arrested for her death with the amount of pills she was popping. Anyway put it this way when it is raining there, there is nothing to do and i mean nothing so i literally read my book for about 12 hrs solidly. By 8pm i ... read more

Escaping form Perth for a few days I drive along the coast from Walpole to Albany. Attractions during this trip are the Valley of Giants, inlet beaches and the former whaling city of Albany. Walpole, 450 kms south-west of Perth is located on Walpole Inlet which drains into the larger Nornalup Inlet and hence into the Southern Ocean. Established in the 1930's as a group settlement for farmers its industries grew to include timber milling, beef and dairy farming. Today its main claim to fame is the Red and Yellow Tingle Tree. With a population of 500 people it is a very quiet center with shops closed by 8PM. The Red Tingle (Eucalpytus Jacksonii) is found only in the vicinity of the Walpole-Nornalup National Park. It can grow up to 75 metres high. Its shallow root ... read more

Blog=Online-Tagebuch... Bye Flori... read more

Rather than blog every stop and end up emailing you all every couple of days we're doing one for Western Australia (WA) and updating it as we go... so do pop bak to this one if you want the latest. Perth Tom speaking: Arrived in Perth mid-afternoon. Got a taxi to a hostel in town - really weird as all the shops were shut and no-one about. A bit like a ghost town. Not sure if they have a siesta maybe as it was 39C (but at least dry heat unlike SE Asia). Found out next day that it was a Bank Holiday... hence everything being shut. Although to be honest it is really quiet here. I suppose when they've got over 5 times the space and a third of the population of the UK ... read more

Well the plane journey was pretty uneventful (just as a plane journey should be), I did get a whole double seat to myself so I had to make the most of it and spread myself out making the most of my cattle class ticket. still it made very little difference to the amount of sleep I got as I didn't manage to get much more than 2 hours. Although when I arrived at my transfer destination Hong Kong I went to buy a coffee to revive my weary head only to find in my haste to be too organized I had left all my bank cards in the scanner back at my parents house in sunny Whitstable! OOPS! So I was flying to Australia with 30 dollars (Australian (about 20 quid)) and 17 dollars 30 ... read more

So after lugging all my stuff on foot from east Perth to Northbridge I’m feeling pretty knackered. I should have maybe caught the bus. But it’s nice to have a room to myself again, so I enjoy the privacy. That evening I received a text from Damo (a friend of Richie) who had immigrated to Perth six months ago. Turned out Richie had given Damo my number. After discovering that Richie was flying in the next day he invited me out with him and his mates (Krista and Ashley) that evening, to celebrate st Patrick’s Day. Just as I’m about to head out that evening. I received a quick phone call from a very worried Richie in Hong Kong. He had left all his cash cards at home, opps. After I have spoken to his Mum ... read more

I think I've become a pilgrim junky?!? Well OK the Bibbulmun isn't really anything like its Spanish brethren - no religious relics, bugger all churches, no menu del dia, no lisping Spanards & barely a German or Frenchman in sight. However, it does resemble the metaphorical journey one takes. A little like eating too much fibre - a little painful at times, but it makes you feel all cleansed & virtuous at the end of it. Walking 1000km can have that effect on you - that's why Lusty & I have chosen the 'soft' option & are probably only going to complete about 100km - if we're lucky! The purist Bibbulmunist, would start somewhere just north east of Perth. Pack loaded with camping & cooking gear & steadying themselves for a journey that will take about ... read more
