How's it going? I've been in Australia for about two weeks now, all of which I have spent in Cairns. I arrived in Cairns on the 9th of May and met up with my friend Kelly and his brother Aaron. It was nice to be somewhere warm again, although it was pretty cloudy it was nice and humid. Cairns is very touristy, it's full of bars, hostels/hotel and restaurants. The hostel we stayed at was good it was only $15 a night, which included a free meal (although is was small you could upgrade for $5 to something good). It seems that lots of people get stuck in Cairns, there were tons of people at the hostel who had been there for over a month. For the most part life in Cairns is pretty routine; wake ... read more

It seems like yesterday I was writing the last blog but it was 2 weeks ago so I thought I'd give you another quick update before I forget things! Our plans were to head north and the main places we wanted to visit was Fraser Island and The Whitsundays Island. We left Pat and Roy and headed for the Sunshine Coast, we only drove through stopping at some of the beaches - Coolum, Colandra and Noosa Heads. Our first stop and first night camping in the van on our own was a place called Inskip Point. Inskip Point was a lovely place and the beach was very nice but I cant say I really enoyed the first night camping very much! We got there about 6pm and it was already pitch black outside. We drove through ... read more

For all of those who think ive done another rendition of Rod Stewart in the bathtub i'm gonna have to disappoint we did actually go sailing around the Whitsunday islands. We arrived in Airlie beach with a couple of days to spare before our sail so spent time in the lagoon here. The sea itself is a harbour so they created a lagoon which is actually really nice for swimming and sunbathing around. We also checked out the nightlife but due to financial restraints decided to visit the bottle shop first then head out on the town - from what we remember it was a good night with Jemma on true asbo form! We booked a three day, two night sailing and snorkelling trip and have just arrived back a little browner okay pinker than before! ... read more

Sat 20. Given marching orders doing Southbank. Idol aspirants. Spoke to camera guys. One got sticker. Told his story of threats in his line of work. Later in town pleasant Saturday morning in May Brisbane with lots of places to go. Lunch at the Irish Club, lively sidewalk scene. Brown headed ducks in park. Spoke to Aboriginal stall holder re dots. Not keen on snake (Christian) liked track. Sunday 21. Bye bye Brissie. Just thought small coastal town easier. Stopped at Bribie Island - flat, sand. Views to mountainous Moreton Island. Birds of prey hunting. Arriving Caloundra caught the tail end of crafts fair. Went through like a hot knife through warm butter. Stallholders keen. Very pretty estuary and featureful head. While swimming caught sight of bird circling with prey in talons. It seemed a victory ... read more

So after a mamoth journey in from Kroombit, we checked into Koala's, and found out that to get the pizzas that we so desperately craved, it would require a 2 hr round trip walk..or pay 5 dollars extra for delivery...not going to happen! So will and i braved it, made it to eagle boys 5 mins before it shut, and got some awesome pizzas! On the way there, several cars drove past with people lugging cans of beer at us out the window...quickly realised Hervey Bay sucked! The next day we played a bit of cricket, good fun, and then met up with the rest of the group who ould be going to Fraser with us. The briefing lasted ages, with us being put in a group of 11 which included the 3 of us, Shane ... read more

Hi folks I don't know about you, but sometimes I get lost and I can't remember where I left off!! We were just leaving Airlie Beach, we didn't like the town anyway, too many backpackers!!! But first we used the internet and bought some books, and even found a travel guide to India, that'll come in useful later on! It’s almost 12 by the time we leave, so its southwards as fast as we can or as fast as the speed limit will allow us. Passing through Mackay, we spot a fruit and veggie shop so we stop to stock up, much much cheaper than the supermarkets, and anyway it’s Sunday and they are not open! We also stop at a roadside shop and buy some large cooked prawns, (yummy) It’s just too early to stop ... read more

Here I am in Rockhampton - 'beef capital of Australia' and its not a particularly interesting place. The town is full of life-size effigies of bulls and cows on the tops of stores and pubs (check out 'The Great Western' pub). The hostel i'm staying at - the Ascot - is very good and homely. The internet here is free and ready to use anytime, as the hostel is half-empty. Thats part of the reason why i'm writing this! I've been travelling for 8 months now. Born in Devonshire, England - i've left the green rolling hills of my home to the strange landscapes that are dotted across the world. I've visited east Asia; thailand, cambodia, malaysia and singapore... before coming to Perth in Western Australia. I'll try to get round to writing some more interesting ... read more

I am currently in Cairns, Australia. I completed my 3-day, 2-nite live-aboard trip and am now half way through my travels. Later, I leave for Hobart, Tasmania for 2 nites. The diving on the Great Barrier Reef was pretty good. The visibility was far less than Maui (15 ft vs 80+ ft) but still saw some cool things. Also saw another shark (about 3 ft long) and had my camera but he wasn't close enough for a good shot. I know, this again sounds like "the one that got away". He was a white tip reef shark. Also some a lot of nudibranches which are pretty small creatures that attach themselves to the coral. I have some pix of them as they can be very colorful. Also did a nite dive which is always cool. Åll ... read more
