So after Brisbane we headed on up to Hervey Bay, the gateway to Fraser island, the world's biggest sand island. We were a tad worried that in true style we hadn't booked anything and everyone else we knew had booked months ago, oops. Basically, because it's a sand island you need a 4*4 so you either go on a organised tour or you hire a land rover, given the price difference we went for the cheaper option of driving ourselves, how hard could it be?? When we went to pick up our rental we had to watch a video of how to drive on the island which along with the "be aware of dingoes" talk put the wind up us a little!! But we jumped into the car and drove down to the ferry, drove slowly ... read more

On a recommendation from my brother and his family (especially my nephew Anthony), I went to Hartley's Crocodile Adventures, in between Cairns and Port Douglas. There were over 200 freshwater and estuarine crocodiles at the park. Sounds like a lot until you find out most of them are in the farm and are future handbags and boots. I saw a crocodile named Sollie after the pet dog it ate on New Year's Day and a huge (about 15 feet long) croc named Paul who was brought to the park after some rancher got tired of him eating their dogs and biting the heads off their cattle. Appropriately, there was a cow skull in the habitat with Paul. A lagoon that took seven years to grow/build had 26 crocodiles; 18 females and eight males. To visit them, ... read more

Hello All! Tony and I are still relaxing in the mountains. I am now working only four days a week rather than the six days so it now feels like I am on holiday! We went to see the new addition to the Nunn family and she is beautiful - she doesn't have much hair on the top of her head but she does have big blue eyes and VERy long eyelashes.... Zack is very good with her. Gives her kisses and lot's of hugs. He is very protective of Jada and doesn't like his friends talking to her or touching her... only his two best friends are allowed! Katherine and I had a fantastic time and really enjoyed spending time with each other. We left theirs and travelled North to Cairns for a few days. ... read more

Today, I went snorkeling for the first time (other than in my high school swimming pool of course) and despite a rocky start, I loved it. So much so, that I am trying not to spend more money to go out again (it gets pricey!) I signed up for an all day trip with snorkeling at three sites. The waters were rough and they advised everyone to take motion sickness pills. I took the ginger tablets and did fine on the hour-and a half long trip out to the first site. As soon as the boat stopped and started rocking, I started to feel bad. Luckily, I could just jump in the water and solve that problem. Leave it to me to start feeling sick when the boat stops. I tried snorkeling, they recommended using a ... read more

Hiya Possums We're back on the road, and intend to reach Townsville, however we spend too much time on the internet, (do you realise just how long all this blogging takes!!!), and so we only make it as far as Ingham before it's time to set up camp. It’s a good site, wonderful facilities, (we're getting used to Oz now and stopped comparing the camp kitchens with NZ!!) and so many small cane toads everywhere!! We saw quite a few up at the Judo Club; they would come in the door of an evening. I also saw lots and lots of squashed ones on the road; quashing cane toads is just another one of the many national sports here in Oz! Short drive next morning, it’s only 200 ks to Townsville. We eventually found the I-site, ... read more

Hey everyone, still surviving over here although the bugs are feasting on me good and proper at the sanc. (gill, that 'stingose' has been a life saver even if it does make you look a little odd!). Was the Buddha Birth Day Festival here in Brisbane the weekend before last and i had some good pics of it so thought i would include that. It ran from fri afternoon til late sunday eve and was held at Southbank down by the river. It involved lots of live music and dance on the main stage. Some of the music was quite oriental as you'd expect but they also had some rocky and chilled out local bands in the evening. Live music seems to be a big thing here - lots of the bars and pubs have live ... read more

Hello People. Last week I headed back down to Sydney to start my Oz Experience bus, which meant hanging out for a few days in Sydney which was cool, and I had a great meal in China town (remember that bit). On Thursday I over slept by half an hour missing my bus out of town. Goddamit. Luckily a nutter driver decided he could catch the bus if we jumped in his car and broke a few laws, which we did, and he was right, so I managed to get on the bus after all, which was really good. Our first stop was in the outback, which most people hated due to the rusticness of the facilities and all that, I didnt really care as Ive stayed in some proper pits in the last few months, ... read more

So, lot's to update for this entry! On Friday evening, as the girls and I were preparing for a night out, I received a phone call that I had a job set up for me in the small little town, well, actually it's more like a Hamlet, of Cardwell. I was so excited, that I decided to stay home and pack, and well, I was so excited that I even packed the girls' bags too. So, the next day, I woke up, said my goodbyes to Nicole and Tenille, and set out to Cardwell on the greyhound. I sat with a really nice guy from Ireland, so the three hour trip wasn't at all boring. I arrived, only to realise the smallness of the town I would be living in for up to a month or ... read more
