We have moved in to the Gold Coast and what a hive of fantastic beaches , 1/2 price dining , Free camping and people watching. We quite often spend our days just drinking coffee after our morning swims and watching the ppl walking by. To this most will require a few things one is the coins for the coffee, secondly, and most importantly is the abililty to just relax and allow the world to pass without trying to overtake it all the time. We can claim the fortunate title of low level heart attack potential victims, All through the power of a Latte and Cruise control in our lives. We stayed here for 4 to 5 weeks and again never darkened the door of a caravan park, we were mostly waterfront everyday and a list of ... read more

'sup everyone I'm back in a more civilized part of the country and actually have some free time for the next couple days. That means I can finally do a real update on my blog. This is obviously cause for global celebration. I'm currently in Surfer's Paradise which is in southern Queensland. Honestly, it's a pretty miserable place. Picture Niagara falls, only with the ocean instead of the waterfall. The city consists of commercialized shopping areas, casinos and tourist traps. It even has the many of the same attractions as Niagara, such as a Ripley's museum and Hard Rock Cafe. The only upside is Simon (my cousin)works here in one of the hostels. I knew he was somewhere in the city when i showed up but i didn't think he'd be so easy to find. When ... read more

Right, we are just in Qeensland now but only by about 10km, and we're staying in Surfers Paradise. Its a huge city thats right on the Gold Coast, and it runs along side the beach for miles. Since our last messge we have been raging up the coast in the beast that is the falcon...and we're about 1600km north of Ash n Danny. Nick and Russ went and got tattoo's (nice ones too) and the girl who worked there invited us to go and stay at her house, so we went for the night and her dad, Barry, cooked us up some nice steaks on the barbe, then in the morning we shot off. We went up the coast a few hours to a place called Forster and we camped for 2 nights, took it easy ... read more

Next we set off for Surfers Paradise... it just sounds amazing. My first impression as our bus drove through town late at night was this town is exactly what i picture miami to be like. We ended up staying in a place called Islander Backpackers Resort. we were paying $26 a night and we had our own bathroom, tv,lockers, fridge ad balcony. we over looked the hottub and pool and the beach was a 5 min walk down the road. It was by far one of the best hostels *if you can even call it a hostel it was so nice* Aside from the second night when some punk NZ kid came in at 2am and was making so much noise and then when he realized we were awake he asked us if we wanted to do ... read more

Hola cicos y cicas. Que tal? I am officially sweet! Life has been absolutely amazing over the past few weeks (sorry to rub it in to you guys working in those hot and sweaty offices back home) but it has!! From 1770 we headed to Hervey Bay where we were set to embark on a mini adventure!! Arriving at the hostel we had booked, we were quietly disappointed that we were staying on a Caravan Park- our room was a caravan attached to a solid, room- interesting but was ok for a night! At night we were to watch the FA Cup Final, and due to Stevie G's wonder strike and the penalty shootout, we got about zero sleep (thats a lie- about 4 hrs!). I do believe it was this lack of sleep that caused ... read more

We stayed in Surfer's Paradise for 4 nights. As i mentioned in my last blog, it is a really touristy place with fastfood outlets everywhere and loads of high rise hotels. On our first day me Chris (Martys travel buddy), Jonny and Will went to play crazy golf at King Tuts Put Put (or words to that effect ) We decided to play all three courses that were available, including an Egyptian themed one and a dinosaur themed one. I reckon the many hours of playing Monkey Golf on Holtby's Gamecube (aka the kiddies console) put us in quite good stead. Me and Jonny couldn't be seperated after 54 holes so we came joint 1st (Though technically i should have won due to the fact i got more hole in ones, not quite the bb when ... read more

Happy Birthday Dad! I am ready for my last day of the IC-Zed in Surfer's. Yesterday I presented my paper. Quickly discovered I had the WRONG CD and did not have my powerpoint presentation. I only had photos. It was horrible! Tons of people said it was okay (whatever!!!). At least they grasped the destructive nature of the Aye-Aye. Will be in Cains tonight. Cant wait for the heat!... read more

After our whitsundays trip, we booted it down to Surfers Paradise to meet up with Questy and Sarah at a friends birthday party. The party was in an old colonial style house that has been turned into a club. It was a wicked party with a few different djs playing breakbeat style house accompanied by a live bongo player, who by the end of the night, because of so much bongoing had plasters on every finger, now thats hardcore bongoing!!!! The party was wicked and everyone made us feel very welcome, so big up to all the Kiwi massive !!!! After a few days at Surfers just chillin we got back on the road and spent a few days travelling back to Sydney for our flight to Fiji.... read more

We arrived in Surfers Paradise this morning and, so easy to backpack Australia, the hostel shuttle picked us up. Our hostel is I reckon on my top three of hostels so far: Trekkers, a bit far from the city, 20 some minutes to the beach but breakkie is included and it all looks nice.... Tomorrow night is Pub Crawl organized by the hostel so it will be pretty intense, especially with the two clowns I'm travelling with :) What's good about being 3 is that we can actually afford to eat good food....everything divided by three is so much better and Dali has just started his trip so he's got plenty of money ....hehehe So we keep having fun,e njoying the beach...the waves are really strong here, but I'm a bit of a wuss and I ... read more

Well we are on the gold coast now. We have been doing a lot. We went “Zorbing”. Basically ripping down a big hill in a huge plastic ball with 40 gallons of water swishing around us. It was amazing, but it was over too fast. We are staying in a sweet apartment with Tenneals mates Kane and Shane. Shane works the bungy in Surfers and he tries to get us to jump everyday. He says crazy things like "You can do it for free! Its so fun! Ive only had one person pee their pants! Ive done it over 100 times!" Im happy for Shane, but I will indeed wet myself, and I want to keep peeing my pants out of the public eye.... Back to the apartment...we have a huge balcony with a patio set ... read more
