Its been ages since our last blog so here goes................ We landed in Brisbane and to be honest we didn't think much of it after Thailand and Hong Kong. Its a good enough city but we missed not having the beach at our doorstep so we only stayed a week and moved on to surfer Paradise. While we were there though we went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary where there are loads of Koala's, Kangaroos and other animals so that was Brilliant. Anyway its really amazing here in Surfers and the beach is unreal. The only thing is the waves are lethal so we are half afraid to go into the water. Its great just chillin on the beach watchin everyone surfing away. We met up with 2 girls from Cork so we stayed with ... read more

Hello all. Arrived in Brisbane last night, the hostel is really cool, had lovely people in my room and we all went to the bar and met more lovely people. didn't get any chance at all to see brisbane itself but i'll be doing that when i go back in a few days. So hopped on the greyhound to head to surfers paradise. Its nice. The beach is nice- with lots of big waves! Its REALLY packed though...and u can only swim between the flags and the lifeguards were there shouting things at people! Its pretty touristy, which is a shame! Had a nice paddle though! The weather today is gorgeous, i think about 28 degrees but none of that humidity i was getting in cairns thankfully! Been wandering round the shopping malls and stuff, they ... read more

These are some pictures from our apartment, we are on the 24th floor. I am in the heart of Surfer's Paradise in the Gold Coast. When I leave my apartment building I walk into an outdoor market with a variety of restaurants and shops along with the grocery store that I have been using. The night life in our area is also unbelievable. Right outside of the apartment there are a handful of bars and night clubs, the most popular being Melbas which is directly below our apartment. There are also tons of nice restaurants, bars, and clubs all within walking distance... truly unreal. Our actual apartment is very nice and very modern, almost too modern, but very nice nonetheless. The beach is about a five minute walk from the apartment and it is beautiful. The ... read more

Eleanor and I recently had a 4 day break on the Gold Coast, it was the first time we've left the kids at home though we were confident that they'd be OK. The trip was a birthday present for me and a chance to relax, we booked our air fares online and got a great deal - $100 return each. We left on Saturday the 17th February, Justine dropped us off at the airport at around 11.30am for our 12.15pm flight. All went according to plan and due to the time difference between Queensland and NSW we arrived at Coolangatta airport at about 1.30pm, our bags arrived quickly and we were soon in the bus heading towards our first hotel - the Australis Sovereign which is located at the northern end of Surfer's. The hotel was ... read more

This weekend me and my flatmates went for surfing. Living in Brisbane, we have no excuse for not surfing. Few of the World's best surf spots are right around Brisbane - Gold Coast & Sunshine Coast. We decided to go to Surfers Paradise (Gold Coast) for the weekend. Neither of us know how to surf. I have tried surfing couple of times in the Netherlands - but its safe to classify me as a beginer. My friends Luca (Italy) and Gisseppe (Swiss) have never surfed before. We took the train down to the Surfers paradise (SP) saturday morning and headed straight to the beach. whats a great place to learn to surf - perfect water temperature, great waves, white sandy beaches. And lo-behold the scenery on the beach - according to Gissepe its a 'health hazard' ... read more

Well not a huge amount to tell you about Surfers Paradise, another beach town but more built up and very tourist orientated. The beach was ok but once I dicovered the jelly fish washed up on the beach I was a little put off. The highlight of our time here was going to Dreamworld where we went on some cool freaky rides, not as large as what we have back home like Chesington but was a fun day. My best bit was cuddling a Koala, her name was Sienna and she was only 2 years old. Very cute and nice to hold for all of 60 seconds that you get. But still loved it. The rides were cool as well, the scariest one was the big drop they pull you up let you dangle for a ... read more

Yay! We're finally settled! We found a great place on the water with a beautiful breeze, thank goodness! It's unbearably hot right now, but summer will end soon and get back to a temperature we're used to. So far, the place is great, lots of light and really clean. The next few months are going to fly by I'm sure. I'm still job hunting, it's a little slow going when you're so hot...I don't always look presentable, that's for sure. Kailea found a job at a restaurant that I'm going to try and apply at today, and Jamie is at Subway for now. Things are looking good, so far Surfers has a lot to do, we just need the cash to do it! Anyhoo, take care all! Hopefully things are going good, wherever you are! xox ... read more

Weather: Hot. A couple of hours drive north of Byron Bay is Surfers Paradise. If you have come across this place before, you will know that there can be precious few people who would consider this paradise - in fact there is not an Advertising Standards Authority on the planet that would allow a campaign that linked this great tranche of hi-rise hotels and holiday accommodation to be plugged with the lable "Paradise". Maybe once upon a time there was a section of this lovely section of coastline that was a paradise to surfers, but not any more - now it really is concrete as far as the eye can see. Having lunched in the middle of all this, we drove a few miles north to our camp site. This was a quiet and well equipped ... read more
