Travelled from Brisbane to Surfers Paradise today! Changed our plans again slightly as we are going to spend two nights in Surfers, and then drive down to Sydney on Saturday morning. Plans to stay in a hostel in Sydney have been scrapped due to the crap place we were staying at in Brisbane. We've now booked into a hotel which is a little bit more expensive, but its comfy and we have a bathroom (yay!). **James and Hayley - please note, DO NOT stay in a hostel but if you do, make sure you get ensuite rooms. Seriously having to share a bathroom with the rest of the backpackers is no joke!!** So here we are in Surfers Paradise, in the fab hotel that Kim found for us. We're 10 floors up so we have THE ... read more

Wow- the last few days have been a bit of a rollercoaster! We met the tour group in Sydney on Saturday morning (6.15 am!) and began the journey up to Byron bay. It was a 10 hour journey with a few stops thrown in. Unfortunately I was pretty travel sick (4 times to be exact!) so was feeling pretty rough all day :- ( . We got to Byron bay and me and Kate found our little house. It was so cute and we shared a double bed which definitely made a change from the bunk bed and sleeping bag! We had a BBQ for dinner and had an introduction evening where we had to get up and say a bit about ourselves then answer a question. It was a really funny evening and a good ... read more

Greetings once more loyal readers. My apologies yet again for the lengthy duration between blogs. Word on the cyberstreet is that Simmo's Tour of BEWDY!! is getting a reputation for more broken promises than a John Howard election campaign, having mentioned several times that I'll be "adding another blog soon". But, in the words of an old mate of mine, Bulwinkle the moose, "this time for sure". So as far as I can remember when I last left you I had just signed off on my Jackaroo experience and arrived in the Gold Coast - party town full of glitz, glamour, themeparks, nightclubs and slutty charm. Within hours of arriving at the coast I was lying on the golden sand in Surfers Paradise and who should be standing next to me but Steven Bradbury of Australian ... read more

Hello and welcome back to a very belated, very behind time, no doubt to be very unthorough and rushed through blog. I ask you all to hark your minds back to late July. As you will recall I had been battling away in the Gold Coast, working two jobs (ok, it was only like 25 hours, but still - I'm a vagabond. That's a lot for me), fraternizing with hot clientele at Cocktails & Dreams, and working on the early stages of a tan following the racial villification I copped from the Dutch girl (see "Surfin' Safari..."). So it came as a very pleasant relief when Virgin Blue loaded up a few of the boys from back home and sent them north to grace the sun, sand and sticky bourbon-covered dancefloors of the Golden Coast. It ... read more

We checked back into the Chifley for the night before picking up our rental car and heading south to the Gold Coast. Before leaving Brisbane, we took a walking tour around the botanical gardens. We saw many water dragons and all sorts of birds including a dozen Ibis birds roosting in a tree! It was a beautiful spot - right outside the QUT campus. Luckily, getting on the motorway was easy and after a hot chocolate and java stop we were off to Gold Coast. 45 minutes later, we rounded a bend and found a wall of high-rises growing out of the ocean! We soon found the Courtyard Marriott and checked in. We got very lucky and landed a room on the 26th floor. What a view of the town and the ocean! We spent the ... read more
