Godt for huden! Det var et dejlig sted, hvor jeg brugte tiden paa at proeve at laere at surfe, som I kan see af billederne. Jeg er nu i Surfer's Paradise, en storby med skyskrabere. Den er endnu m... read more

Well I've fitted in a nice long essay on Surf Camp so I'll try and keep this one to the point, although my abilities for waffling and chatting may defeat me so beware!! I think I mentioned we were dropped off from Surf Camp in Byron Bay. Our hostel here was pretty cool! There was a pool, it was small but still a pool in a hostel was a bit of a novelty! And it was right next to the beach, which was accessed via a random passage way which went through some bushes, over a railway line (disused! before you panic mom! lol) and through some more bushes to get straight on to the beach! A lot of the people from Surf camp had been allocated there and most of the ones that weren't ... read more

Anyways surfers paradise was brilliant so i stayed there for 5 nights. It was very American in that it had high rise buildings right along the beach and the gold coast is apparently the only place in Australia where the council have allowed this. There were a couple of BRILLIANT theme parks we went to, firstly a waterpark which was fantastic and the other was called dreamworld. Dreamworld had the first ride to scare the shit out of me in about 10 years. It was literally just a massive tower that was 120m high (just to put that into perspective i am about 1.8 meters ... read more

After ordering a pint of Guinness and one Smirnoff Double Black, Gene skeptically eyed the female bartender who handed souvenir t-shirts over the bar to another male patron. We were wearing our festive shamrock head gear purchased from an Irish specialty store in Sydney and were certain to receive holiday handouts. “What do I have to do to get a t-shirt?” Gene asked the bartender, feeling cheated. “You need to buy four pints of Guinness and you’ll receive a free shirt,” she responded. To me, four pints for a t-shirt seemed more of a swindle than a freebie. In his most masculine voice, Gene directed, “Then I’ll take three more pints of Guinness and a free Guinness t-shirt.” As I stood there drinking my Double Black, I imagined Gene’s condition after four pints of Guinness. “Honey, ... read more

So having come from byron, a quiet little town and amazing beach, surfers paradise was a bit of a shock! high rise buildings and sky scrapers lining the coastline.......not such a postcard picture. however the beach was still nice, the sun still shone and our hostel was really cool. Bex and Matt were still with us so we had a little apartment for 8. Was luxury, we had our own kitchen and bathroom! hehe. The first day at surfers we hit the beach, it was really windy and waves were rough so we didn't stay long, so we headed back to the hostel and lounged around the pool (and in the hot tub i must add!!) Our second day we booked a trip to wet n wild, was really good fun but the weather wasn't great. ... read more

Today MC and I went to the Sea World that is out here in the Gold Coast. It was a great time; we saw pretty much every attraction that the park had to offer. We saw everything from your average fish to polar bears, it was unreal. We went and saw two different shows at the park, they were called "Quest for the Golden Seal" which was very cool and, hence the name, featured seals. The other show that we saw was called the "Dolphin Cove Show" which was one of the coolest things that I have ever seen. The dolphins were amazing, some of the coolest animals I have ever seen, just check out all of the pictures and videos (that's right I took videos and I can put them on the site as well). ... read more

Its only a short ride to Surfers from Byron, about one and a half hours and then we checked into The Islander Resort which had a spa and sauna which was a bonus. Lovely beach but full or sky rise hotels which is not the most attractive sight, not overly much to do there really but had a good time nevertheless. We went to a theme park called "Wet & Wild" where I went on a slide that had a drop of 30 foot!!!! I nearly chickened out when the attendant decided to warn us that you could be paralized for life if you don't lay correctly and that if you don't keep your arms behind your head and you ankles crossed you could get severe burns, she annoucned this just before it was my turn ... read more

This is the beach that is just outside of our apartment and the one that we always go to. It is one of the nicest beaches I have ever been to. It is much nicer than the beaches in California. It has white sand and clear water, although the water is a little cold it is very refreshing, especially with the hot sun. It is always crowded, both in and out of the water. They have seperate areas marked of in the water for surfing and for swiming so that people aren't aren't getting hit by surfers. In the water there are a bunch of jellyfish, but luckly most of them are really tiny ones, only about the size of a quarter and you don't even notice them in the water. Also, down here lifeguards are ... read more

Over the last few days the Gold Coast was hit by a cyclone. I only managed to take a few pictures from my balcony because I didn't want to bring my camera out into the rain and risk it breaking. But the cylone was pretty cool, I didn't know what to expect but it was like a miniature hurricane or something. There were really strong winds that were strong enough to rattle the windows that go out to our balcony. In addition to the wind there was a hard rain that would come and go and with the wind, it made the rain even stronger. Like I said before, I would have taken more pictures but I was worried about my camera. I am going to bring my camera with me to school shortly to take ... read more
